Hiya, thought I would throw a few cents in on this...not to many though, I'm poor and can't afford more then a few

WoW game is pretty much the same as every other MMO that was out before it, isn't it? WoW didn't do anything new, they refined.
1. Using the ideas of another game as a platformer and using the mechanics of another game to create your own is too different thing so don't give me this horse crap that "WoW did this" BS. WoW took ideas, I didn't lend a blind idea to this. However, this doesn't credit the fact that Turbine is using the same mechanics as WoW, which is undeniable.
If I recall, L2 and EQ had the same set up as both of them right down to the racial starter areas. Since L2 and EQ were around first....
who copied who?
2. EQ came first came I believe, but what you just said HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT AT HAND.
EQ1 has all the same classes and so does a first addition D&D book printed in the 70/80's, L2 also has pretty much every melee combo listed here. Also you will note the lack of spellcasters. because of limitations by the Tolkien foundation, they are not allowed to really put any in. So yes, this is going to be a melee heavy game unlike alot of MMO's which are caster dependent. So no, gameplay in that respect isn't going to be the same.
3. Problem is with your argument, we aren't talking about ideas, but the very mechanics classes were based on. BTW, Tolkein world was very magic based, but limited to relics, weapons, wizards, demons and some of Sauron's men like the Witch King. The combat in book was more exploiting the weakness their enemies.
Lastly, only a fool would miss the reason why I mention DnD and it has to do with the fact that Turbine had just gotten through working on DDO. The fact you trying to come in and making blanket comparsion is amusing. Only an idiot who doesn't see the connection would sit and agree with you.
I guess you could say that, but monster play isn't a true faction. Its more like a mini-game in design. But yeah, there is a "monster side" and a "pretty boy side". How else would you do it within the limitations the Tolkien foundation placed on Turbine?
4. Tolkein ISN'T limited and please stop acting like a spokesman for Tolkein. Monster PvP was a second thought. Turbine isn't well know for good pvp.
We were riding horses...
5. This has nothing to do with who did it first and again, it goes back to mechanics. So you can stop with all the meaningless comparsion because you're DIVERGING FROM THE SUBJECT. (In a attempt to debunk the post) Hey, did you know that Asheron's Call was one of the first MMORPG. So what? What does this have to do with the fact that MMO are stealing mechanics that made WoW different? So stop making vague responses and please post WITHIN the subject.
The rest of what you said is crap pure and simple. There are no minor similarities and only a simpleton would agree that they are minor. Any person whose at least played WoW can take your argument is full of crap from a mile away. LotR and WoW have the same mechanics right down the middle and the only thing that separates them is the designs.
AND for future reference PLEASE STAY ON THE SUBJECT WHEN POSTING. I'm getting tired of your weak attempt to debunk post you see as hurting LotR's image. I'm not here to hurt LotR image. No matter what I say, these guys are going to play the game anyway. You need to get your head out of your butt and realize you are not doing ANYONE any favors.
Easy bro, no need to resort to name calling.
I'm just making points. You are the one on the attack, not me. You wanna name call an insult, you are just invalidating anything else you write and no one will take you seriously. People will just label you a hater and a troll, I know you are not, we crossed paths in other post before. I'm actually surprised at your tone and hostility with this game, generally you are well spoken and never lose your cool that I normally saw. You know I can be an ass and I haven't with you at all. You want to post criticisms be prepared to have people disagree with you.
Look, there is no question LotR follows traditional mechanics. I'm not saying it doesn't. Its not new or revolutionary. Find me an MMO that is. Vanguard is the same crap also. I betaed that for the last 4 months also. You can apply everything you say to that as well.
Its no clone, sure there are similarities to other MMO's. There is with everything out there. And that is the core problem with MMO's. The only MMO I see on the way thats going to "buck the system" somewhat I can see is Conan. So relax and have a great day (and I'm being sincere)
Look, there is no question LotR follows traditional mechanics.
There's nothing traditional about the mechanics in LotR. Like I said, there's ideas and then there's mechanics. If you making Fantasy MMORPG and I use the ideas behind your game to make my game, I'm just following a trend. However, if I go as far as to take most of your mechanics of your game to create my game, I'm not creating a game or something unique, but a clone.
Not that it's bad, but don't try insult our intelligence by trying to convience us this game is TOTALLY unique. We know it isn't and it's not going to stop us from playing. All I'm asking you to do is to tell the truth.
Dude, all I ever said was it wasn't a WoW clone were you said it was In fact I listed all the other games that had this crap before either WoW or LotR's. I never "lied" to anyone nor passed off anything as fact or truth. I posted some pictures to illustrate the difference and the readers can make their own choices. Thats my opinion. K? Cool.
Other then that, I like it better then WoW, again my opinion. Then....I like most games better then WoW lol. Hell I just wrapped up 1 year of Lineage 2 and I gotta say that is an awsome game compared to WoW.
Honestly, I'm still a bit worried about Turbine. They have the uncanny knack of f**king up everything they touch. I hope they stay on course with this one. The MMO industry as a whole needs a few wins this year after the last 2 crap years we went through. It would be nice to have a few new, quality games to choose from. I'm hoping we get that.
Thats all, I'm just a gamer looking for some good gaming. Whatcha so hostile for lately?
lol guys this game will be for the lotor fanbois, its not going to do anything new..LOTOR will be WoW but with better graphics and the LOTOR setting,nothing..Games like Age of Conan, Gods of War, and Warhammer have so much more to offer..
I just want you to know you should be shot for spelling the Lord of the Rings with and 'O' between 'the' and 'Rings'. What the F*** is there that only you see?
Oh, and also; without LotR there would be no such thing as dwarves, elves, and magic as we know it today in any fantasy game, book, movie, etc. Why? Because J.R.R. Tolkein invented the standard unknowingly when he published his books and they became a success.
Currently: Playing EVE Online Previous: FFXI, Dragonrealms, sad little stint in WOWland. Awaiting: Fallen Earth, Hero''s Journey, Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan.

Dwarves and elves have existed in Norse Mythology. (Elves in European mythology) A lot of what Tolkein uses comes from stories like Beowulf and other such literature.
They existed, but not as we know them. Tolkien's interpretation was quite a stretch, but since then, his interpretation has been used and reused many times.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
They existed, but not as we know them. Tolkien's interpretation was quite a stretch, but since then, his interpretation has been used and reused many times.
Elves have shown in other medias as fairy like or short-like a dwarf in Christmas stories.
Dwarves in Snow White were nothing like the Tolkein dwarves. Had Tolkein not come around, there would be other interpentations of dwarves and elves used in today's games.

Yes, but my point is Tolkien set the standard that all other fantasy games are based off of now. DnD was based off of Tolkien's work, and most fantasy games nowadays are based off of DnD's stuff (not the system). I understand what you mean about elves and dwarves in other media, but by what you're saying it would mean we had dwarves like Sneezy and Droopey running around in WoW!

Hey, I had a dwarf hunter in WoW and I always liked to think of him as a "pissed off Grumpy" with sunglasses and a shotgun.
One race I really did enjoy in WoW was the Dwarves. I mean come, who wouldn't like a scottish sounding Dwarf with a gun, lobbing dynomite and flame traps with a pet bear named "Pooh"???? Lineage II was my next favorite Dwarf. Greedy little bastards who make giant robots to knock down castle walls...classic depiction lol.
I dont understand why there are no evil races to play. No real casters. went into the beta and started a loremaster, I thru burning embers to the targets that turned me off totally.
would be cool if we had the chance to play orcs or urukai. Also on eb games if you pre order they give you the chance at a 1 time hit of 199$ lifetime membership. That tells me they know it wont be popular and they want to rack up sure money before it dies.

round and round, round she goes....
There no evil races to play because the Tolkien foundation said so. (Tolkiens son I believe directly specified this) There are no WoW type casters or priest for the same reason...Tolkien said so. So if you are not happy with it, drop Mr Tolkiens son a note. Who knows maybe he will reconsider and allow flamestriking Gnomes and Orc shamans.
You can play Orcs in monster play. (also spiders and wolves and trolls later on)
The game is base on and license of Tolkien it is not an original property therefore they must follow whatever restrictions that are placed on them. Unfotuanately for you the Tolkien foundation is not willing to bastardize there property to make a quick buck like Mr Lucas is lol.
Do a few searches, this info is really easy to get a hold of. Start on the offical site.

OH! Classic. That one hit me like a Mike Tyson punch (back in the good ole days, not the crazy bite your ear off days) and made me laugh to tears. Nice one.

Hehe, If you want WoW like classes why don't you play WoW? LOTRO isn't your stereotypical fantasy game. If anything its more how "real" magic would be, and that is what Tolkien was sort of trying to show (IMO at least).

I saw a screenshot of a bunch of hobbits dancing around....what I wouldn;t give to be an evil toon and kill all of them...sadly..I can't. And being a monster every now and then doesn't cut it..oh what this game could have been...oh well...
Ermm why not allow monsters as playabel characters? I think you have the answer to that yourself..
How would you limit the access for monsters to different zones? Flag yourself pvp enabled would not work..
no matter how you think about it.. if you allow rading party to enter the shire and kill everything on sight its not lord of the rings anymore..

Now how fun will that be for the little hobbit?
