I'm interested in starting a DAoC account. I've been browsing the catacombs website looking at what character to play as well as reading the frontiers website. 2 questions have developed as I read both.
1. Should I wait until frontiers is released? It appears to have bonuses even to the low level characters. example being endurance regen for level 15 and up style using classes.
2. how is the level grind from 1 to 50? Is it 5-6 months of gameplay? I'd probably be playing 8 hours a week.
Any advice related to DAoC in general would be appreciated as well.

1. You don't need to wait for Frontiers to start. Frontiers is focused on the high level RvR. There are some small benefits to lower level players but not a lot.
2. The leveling time to 50 is between 5 to 17 played days. At 8 hours a week that is 15 to 51 weeks of playing. Leveling time is class dependant. A necromancer can level in 3 days but the class is not strong in RvR. The typical leveling time is between 7 and 10 days, I think.
If you are playing only 8 hours a week, don't expect to have a level 50 toon anytime soon. There are the battle grounds for low level characters which you can be in within 3 to 5 weeks. They are a lot of fun.
Lastly, the other major challenge is trials of atlantis. Players have said that a person needs artifacts and master level abilities to compete at level 50 RvR. I can't comment because I don't have any level 50 toons but you can read about it on the boards.
I like DAOC and like playing in the battle grounds. I have played for 2 years and I don't have a level 50 toon because I get bored of the grind between 45 and 50. (I solo a lot)
Hope this helps.
i used to play daoc and really enjoyed it but had to quit because i misplaced my computer.
but when i was playing it i would have to say it is one of the better online games and the rvr is great but unlike my brother who still plays the game i never had any friends playing the game and if you can play it with friends everonce and a while (my bro was nice enough to let my friends use his account to let me and my friends play together) even though its fun playing by yourself its even funner if you can get a friend on it with you
not saying you need a friend to play it with you because ppl on doac are pretty nice but it is jusst more enjoyable if you have someone you can coardinate lvling with it might go a bit quicker anyways thats my 2 and 1/2 cents
good luck on your gaming

I'm looking at the Fighter/Caster combo classes. Specifically; Thane, Reaver, Valewalker.
so i'd be looking at potentially half a year(!) to reach the end of the treadmill.
Half a year leveling solo, yes.
Try and find groups where possible and you'll half the time.

Don't forget to add Champions to that list, Champions make for very good soloing caster/fighters IMO...
Another thing you might want to consider about the game...
If you plan on crafting in the game, the amount of time you spend on it will dramatically increase. If you don't have a lot of free time don't get into crafting, join a large guild that has well established crafters.

Heya, It will take a long time to get a character to 50 with almost no new players in daoc. It has become a game catering for the die hard daoc fans and keep them busy with new loot and almost everyone there now just powerlevels new alts via a second account and every stealth class in pvp has a buffbot parked at the player keep. I know people with level 50 scouts infi's etc who have never drawn a sword. Some classes such a infi or scout will be a nightmare to level solo....it was hard to find groups even when noobie groups were common in daoc. Even sort after classes like a healer will have a frustrating time even finding groups now. If pvp is your bag you should be able to get a character to lvl 15....then you can take part in battlegrounds and these will last you to lvl 35 or realm point cap.
There is a guild i was in run by canadians on the lanc server called the lords of lancelot ..all nice peeps. Daoc has to be my all time favourite mmorpg...shame mythic ruined it
Pan
It's a small, mindless joke. Anyone in DAoC knows what that is about

Frontiers is a free expansion, so there's no reason to wait for it to be released. Get the Gold Box which includes Classic and Shrouded Isles and you'll be fine. You don't need Trials of Atlantis until you are at least level 25.
The level grind is different for every class. Some have problems at lower levels, some at mid-levels, some at high levels, and some at all levels. Every class can solo - some more painfully than others.
TRUE THAT trying to lvl for some classes is like having your teeth taken out by a ice skate (watch castaway tom hanks is in it OUCH)

K, first off, pick a server. Then pick a realm. Excellent solo classes that fair well in RvR are few and far between. Enchanter does well, as does Thane. Champion and Reaver are two definate options. The key is groups. And with /level being knocked down to lancelot only, leveling will be easier.
Bannad, DaoC, Kay, Shaman, 50
Vledja, DaoC, Kay, Shaman, 46
Mallyse, DaoC, Percival, Reaver 38
Cervantus, if you are going to go solo, I recommend coming over to Pendragon (test server). The community there is small but the real natives there will do just about anything to help a player who is a regular. If you do decide to check out Pendragon, look for Gwodah or Kairend on Midgard. I will be happy to help you with whatever that I can, be it grouping for leveling or powerleveling, cash, items, tour guide, ... Even if you don't want to stay and decide to move to a prod server, stop by anyway and I'll introduce you to some of the natives there and show you some of the basics.
Regards.
You don't need TOA till level 40-50. The mobs are too high of level.

Ya, unless your starving for a graphics upgrade, you don't really NEED ToA till level 40.
Although, ToA does improve upon the graphics quite a bit, to the point where it really is a nice thing to start out with, but I'd stick with just the pack till you decide you like the game.
