So many 'free' MMO's

I just want to know if anyone actually enjoys playing any of the 437 MMO's that use the same cookie-cutter engine and are natively Korean or Chinese(Flyff, Hero, Priston Tale). Obviously they all have micro-gaming aspects, but apart from that are any of these worth it? It seems that when I give it an honest effort I am turned off by the horrible grammar, generic anime inspired models, and shallow gameplay. That is even factoring in microgaming boosts.

Anyway, would like to hear thoughts about these cookie-cutter MMO's that are floating about.

"Cookie cutter" is the best word to use for most of these F2P MMO's

Ive tryed out way more then my share of F2P MMO's and needless to say I havn't  found a outstanding on yet

everyone of them felt as tho something was missing and what ever it was it was big or they just sux all together

the 1st one I ever tryed was Graal Online and me being a huge zelda fan tryed my damnedist to like it but I soon

came to find out that Graal Online was more of a "Chat Room" then a game but it also had alot of good thing too

but they messed it up on the whole questing and storyline . That game was more of a "RP" and it didnt have what it

    took to bring the "G"

Another F2P MMO was "Ran Online" <<<Very Cookie Cutter

Alright game and reminded me of diablo a very small bit btw they called this game "The 1st Japanese school campis" game or something to that affect

heres something to make ya think ok

ya get a wooden bambo sword from your teacher then your teacher gives you a quest to go talk to someone in the next room and

for your reward you get 200 Exp points for it.

Now personaly if my professor gives me a sword im gunna wanna go use it not waste my time taking to someone in the next room

and also the "Monsters" didnt vary same sprites differnte name

but thats enough on the F2P games ive messed with

over all all the F2P MMO's minus WarRock witch i liked are very "Cookie Cutter" as you put it

Please Forgive my spelling its bad I Know

It's true, being an avid F2P MMO gamer I can honestly say that F2P mmo's are usually lower quality than P2P.   It just seems like they are missing that BIG charm that P2P games have..   But hey, I have no money so why would I complain. ;P

    1.  You sound a lot like me.

    2. A user named "Game Loading" is going to flame you as soon as he sees this.

    3.  If you don't like the things you listed, stick to American titles.

    4. I, personally, think those games only breed the kind of bad grammar and horrible ethics that infest the newbie areas on most good games. (Just my opinion, Game Loading. I know I can't point to an article or any sort of facts that back this up, friend.)

    5.  Free usually means you don't need Dad's credit card to play.  Therefore, the community can suffer.

    6.  The games are fun for a short while if you're broke.  (There, I said it!)

Well, I think their biggest draw is that they're free and easy to play. I kind of put them in the same category as, I dunno, yahoo games. They're casual games for when you're bored and don't want to invest a lot of time/energy (let alone money).

I don't flame people unless truly deserved. Unlike you, this person doesn't yell "Omgz, all koreanz mmo's are sucks!!111one", hence there is no reason for me to correct him. all he did was mention that they are from korean origin. Also, I don't believe there are any free to play american MMO titles.

Cool to hear there might be some decent ones out there.  I'll check out those ones you listed.  Yeah, whenever I'm broke and need a fix I try the f2p but am always bummed out and usually unistall the same night i tried it.  The one I played the longest was Flyff and that was ROUGH.  I just wanted to get to the lvl you actually get to fly, but the grind finally got to me hehe.  I rememeber the beta for Dungeon Runners was OK - don't remember but I think they mentioned it would be a f2p.

More personal prefrence than anything; Im play flyff and having fun, i suppose partially because its free so i don't feel compelled to play it all the time because im paying for it. It's a pretty good game once you level up a bit and explore the other areas, but it does have its flaws. I can overlook them simply because theres no way to feel ripped off with a f2p game. Thats more or less the point of it though, its a fun game in spurts, and since its free, your not losing out by not playing it.

I've played my fair share of p2p games, but most of them were lacking too. lets not kid ourselves either, since WoW hit the scene, American MMO's have become pretty cookie cutter too, why im not playing any p2p games right now at all. Everyones getting excited about the newer ones, but after beta testing a few of them, they all feel like they are trying too hard for the casual dollar now and attempting to be the next WoW.

Really what its starting to boil down to now; If your not a WoW fan, your pretty much screwed when it comes to American MMO's. This would be a bit more acceptable if WoW actually offered new and innovative ideas; However, they just took the same generic, old ideas, and presented them in a colorfull and easily accessable format.

When everything feels been there, done that, might aswell play a f2p game to kill some time. You can keep playing EQ clones with better graphics in denial if you want to, but for those of us that started playing MMO's when they first starting popping up, its all gotten very stale, so much so that i don't think its worth paying for something ive already done before so many times. Besides graphics upgrades, MMO's really havn't progressed very much at all since EQ 1 hit the shelves all those years ago. I know alot of mmo gamers agree with me on that one, as it is now, if your not relativly new to mmo's, its not really worth paying when you've played basically the same game many times before, just with diffrent titles and graphics. The market is focused now on the players new to mmo's that WoW brought in, we won't see anything new until the generic formula's run thier course with the new players, and it could be a very long time; thats the ugly truth of it.

Sad really; Wow's success, like it or not, has set back the entire genre for years to come. There is no reason to come up with new, unique, and risky ideas now, because their targets are the new to mmo's WoW crowd, It's all new to them, and until that changes, its all old a bland to old mmo players like me.  There were enough EQ clones BEFORE wow came out as it is.

i think the emphasis should be on "free" because most "free" games arent actually free, as you have to pay for items in order to be even somewhat competitive. This is deepened because most korean games are built around PVP.  Its like european soccer, and american baseball.... whoever pays the most money wins

These free games exist because of the Brazilians.

Well I am happy to see my thread can bring so many people together.

And don't get me wrong, I appreciate that they are free. It works out well, I have what I like to refer to as Gamer's ADD. I am the type of MMORPG'er that creates a character, plays for a few days(or hours) and rolls another. There are few mainstream mmo's that I haven't tried pretty much all race/class combinations =P I think I had about 15 DAoC characters in their 30's before I had one to 50.

... and I am still laughing about Gameroardring... good stuff.

You really have to play the games honestly to get a good feel about them.  Like pay $12.99 a month in the cash shops.  They can actually be pretty fun when you spend a little on them.  However, don't waste your time or money on crap like FLYFF, Hero, Priston Tale.  Only play non-clone f2p.  Those are few and far between, and usually descent.

If you know how to enjoy yourself even when your playing for so long mmo,s, i play from 99 when i first started i still enjoy mmo,s.

Even tho my first mmo was something special and that feeling maybe never comeback i still prefer mmo,s above solo or other genres morrowind was great oblivion so so but mmo with other players still beats it.

    I know some awfull p2p mmo,s.

But i say btw ac beats eq1 in almost every area so maybe alot are clones of eq1 but   ac was the master:P

I have actually sunk a solid couple of hours into Rappelz and and pleasantly surprised so far. Nothing outstanding mind you, but it feels a bit more complete than some of the others I have tried.
