Noob Friendly?

Hello guys, I'm looking for a new MMO (new to me anyways) and I've always wanted to play DaoC so im downloading the demo now. Got a few questions from experienced players.

- Is it noob friendly? Could i log on level up and take part in the group content at lower levels?

- How long does the game have left? Is it dieing, Dead or still popular as ever?

- Whats expansion packs are a MUST have? If i like the game and wanted to buy it after the demo what expansions do i really need?

Thanks!

Current MMO: Nothing
Waiting For: FireFall, GW2

The game still has a while to go but has been in a steady decline for a while. If you are new to the game completely I would suggest going to a classic server. Lots of people there at lower levels because there is no /level on those servers. They just made the Catacombs expansion free so you should be good with just that. There's a lot of decent content in the two following expansions but nothing that would be considered 'must have', just more like 'nice to have'.

DAoC has become very noobfriendly, just follow the instructions in the beginning and you should have no problem at all.

I would advice you to choose a classic server, since there is alot of pvp-action even at lower levels, remember that you can level by killing players to

If you have questions use the /advice and /help commands, or ask players... in general they help out.

it's one of the best mmorpg's out there. too bad that I don't have Visa and can't play it because of that anymore

Sure there must be other metods of paying?

There's a PayByCash method, of course.
  • WerppaWerppa Member Posts: 211
paybycash yes, but I live in Europe and if I transfer money to paybycash I have to pay 12€ more. Our banking system is kinda crappy and there's this one "law" or something that when you transfer money to U.S, you have to pay 12€ for the bank. Another reason is that if I pay by paybycash I have to pay 3 months in advance and I don't want to do that

Calling DAoC noob friendly is a straight out lie. Sure you might manage to level to 50, but you'll be doing it solo. You'll have a though time trying to find out how anything works, and very hard to try competing in RvR with RRhigh characters with opted gear and a player with 5 years of experience.

Try learning skills, spells, MLs, gear and RAs for 45 classes. Its not noob friendly. Sure its possible, but they are very likely going to quit while trying, before getting to the good stuff. And guess what game is there, waiting for them? Thats right.

Thanks for the replys, I'll give the game a try Got the demo downloaded going to instill it once i go home. What Zappy said is alittle of a downer, i dont want to play another "Solo" to the highest level kind of game. I've had enough of WoW because its a MMO on easy mode, I want to be challenged not spoon fead all the way to the level cap.

Well if i am happy with the game and wish to continue theres a Collection of most of the expansion packs for like 29$, would you recormend it?

    Thanks

Since Im the one being negative here, I'll add this.
DAoC is by FAR the best MMO I've played. If you got the guts to go with it, DO IT! Get a guild and with some dedication you'll learn the game as fast as you brain will allow.

I think DAoC still has some time to live yet, but the only reason its on its way down is because few new players start it. Once you get into DAoC you usually stay for a long time. If you dislike WOWs simplicity, you'll love DAoC. Its the exact opposite.

I can only speak from my own point of view, I used to play on EU-daoc until mid december when I decided to give it up. Until 2 week ago I never thought I would give daoc another try.

Then I decided to try out the US-servers and the classic ruleset, WOW what a diffrence!!

I know of atleast 10 others who started anew on the classic cluster the last week, and the low BGs are crowded! I'v never seen anything like it on the servers over in Europe.

This game is FAR from dead on the US-servers!

yep, 20 is the minimum and I'm 18 at the moment.

For Zappy, you don't want to go to EU classic cluster anymore, it's in german. So you won't get far in there if you can't speak german

Edit: I had lvl 50 reaver, necro and fire wizard in EU and lvl 48 shammy in U.S + lots of lvl 20-35 lvl alts in both

Its not a problem to find out what messages mean what. Confusing at first, but since you know what is supposed to be there, you'll manage with some guesswork.

I used to be on Prydwen Midgard. And if I were you I would start on the US-server, the EU classic server is in german and that's not the only problem, if u use the english client you can´t climb walls and you can´t even reply to tells... sucks big time.

RvR, at least in level 50 NF is anything BUT newb friendly. You basically HAVE to have an RvR guid to enjoy yourself in NF.
