Conan and WAR look solid.. Tabula Rasa could be some great coop mmofps fun. And Pirates of the Burning Sea sits on a razor's edge. It is far too easy to screw up pirate themed games.. But those 4 are my favorites for the moment.

There are two games in Beta right now that I feel have major potential, Age of Conan, and Warhammer Online.
Warhammer is shooting for a total war RvR scenario, an experience which, from the looks of it, will be quite unlike anything ever done before in terms of constant territorial conflict.
Age of Conan is bringing loads of new features to the table, most notably the real time directional combat system which is taking the place of the standard autoattack and skill hotbar setup.
Between the two, I'm stuck on AoC, due to differences in graphics style (personal preference, I'm allergic to cartoons), character customization, and the past experiences with both developers, especcially in terms of reliability and storywriting.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

nobody else like it?
"Kono yo ni aku ga aru to sureba sore wa hito no kokoro da."
AoC is promising, some very cool features there. Tops WAR imo.
For biggest potential, by far, Darkfall. Nothing comes even close to it. What we see and what we will actually get is to be seen.
By the looks of WAR, I'd say that it's a game that'll turn out like PlanetSide. Constant killing and that's it. It'll be cool for 3-5 days and then you'll get bored with it. Frankly speaking, I don't buy MMORPG's to play them for 3-5 days. When I look for a MMORPG, I look for something that I'll play for months. Age of Conan seems to have this all covered up.
I am looking forward to the RvsR in pirates of the burning seas more than WAR, although we'll just have to wait and find out what happens. WAR has gotten too much hype, maybe, and it might just end up hurting it among the mmorpg.com forums. PotBS hasnt gotten a ton of hype at all, but the RvsR looks great as well as the other aspects of the game, and the communication between the devs and fans is unlike any other mmorpg I've seen before... To the point where it is pretty much impossible to hate PotBS- And without haters, I think a mmo can become very popular amoung the mmorpg.com community at least.
AoC looks amazing too- So for me its all about PotBS and AoC.

Yes and no, the IP of course will likely draw plenty of a crowd. Unfortunately, it looks like Turbine is counting on that so much they forgot to make a game.
Let me put it to you this way, take WOW, remove the polish, add multiple bugs, and make the controlls more jerky. Then switch the graphics inspiration to the LOTR IP, and reduce quality of the animation and graphics by a few notches, add a bunch more instancing and you've got something close to LOTRO.

I sorta agree, although I think LOTRo is a step up from WoW. Plus they really did a good job at capturing middle earth and all so I'm proud. On the other hand, I dont like linear games like WoW or LOTRo and neither do a lot of the mmorpg.com viewers so! Whatever. They are definitely directing it at casual gamers... As opposed to, say, fanatic mmorpg players who visit forums deticated to discussing mmorpgs?
LOTRo has the whole /music thing too, gotta love that!!

LoTro is really shining up nicely according to what I have been hearing. I spoke to a friend in Atlanta yesterday who is in the Spellborn beta and she will only slightly bend the NDA to tell me enough to make me have some warm fuzzies about it also. I am still unsure about AoC, time will tell. WaR is by my old favorite Mythic so I hope it will be good, I can't see them screwing it up. PoBS is looking like it will fill a much needed historical niche from everything I have heard it is polishing nicely also. It won't be a mega hit but should satisfy those who are truly looking for something different.
All in all the MMORPG genre got off to a horrible start this year with Vanguard having such a horrible launch, but a lot of the ones coming out look great. If I had to just pick one, it would be LoTRO though. It will have good PvE and the MvP system is the iceing on the cake.
I miss DAoC
You basically summed it up for me.
- Graphics are awesome
- No elves, dwarfes etc, Iam really sick of elves somehow :P
- With the setting of ancient rome, mythology there is good stuff for a good story
- Drop system 1:1 from Diablo2, death of 40man raids, yea finally iam so sick of big drama guilds
- Stieg Hedlund is lead designer
- PvP, first just in arenas with ladders, later also with Nation vs Nation combat
- Combat System looks awesome, combine mmo and a style of lets say playstation fighter games together -> Fun
- Squad combat
- and again Graphics are awesome :P
last but not least why I think that r not just promises, won awards at the E3 2006 for best graphics, best gameplay and best show. For sure not for nothing.
Warhammer could be also good but really Iam sick of all these same settings with elves, dwarves yadda yadda ....
The only problem I have with LOTR:O is the tie to D&DO... I really really disliked D&DO... But I also think the D&D system crumbles to nothingness and tedium in a computer game. (NWN included)
