Don't Pay for Lineage 2.
I've been contemplating for the past couple weeks whether to pay for Lineage II or not. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game a couple times and I've came to a final conclusion:
It's pointless to play the game but if you have too much free time, it will take it up fast and is probably the game for you. I have a level 17 fighter on the Gustin server and it's just dreadfully boring. I kill 10 monsters and get only 1% exp. So that's 100 monsters for 10% exp and 1000 monsters for a level (this is on average). But this might be okay if I could kill these monsters in 1 hit. Nope. They are green to me (lower) but they still hit me for 10-20's and it still takes 10 seconds to kill each of them. So let's average the time here...
1 level = 1000 monsters
10 seconds = 1 monster dead
So that's 10000 seconds a level which is 166 minutes or 2 hours and 44 minutes.
This doesn't even include the time to rest (heal)...
I've played MANY mmorpgs and have gotten high level, and it takes me on average 1 hour to finish a level. I'm not even high in Lineage II and it takes almost 3 hours? Please. This is a real leveling treadmill for people who have no career, no school, no girlfriend, and no friends except those who are playing ingame with them and lead the same life. Give me a damn break.
I'll say the graphics are one of the only things going for it. I was addicted but I don't think it's worth my time or my sleep anymore.
Don't waste 50$ to buy it and 15$ a month on it.
The Guild Wars Alpha Demo is being released next month. This is a MMORPG to be excited about.

I'm sure L2 will be a huge flop, in N.A. and Europe, just like the original. I doubt NCSoft cares though, since they've (or the real developers) clearly designed this game with Asian players in mind.
Plenty of good games to look forward to.
Btw, I'm not sure why ppl. praise L2's graphics. Sure, the engine is a nice one, but it's far from great. The characters of the same race all look the same. The exact same monster models are used over and over on many types of monsters. The design is nothing to talk about and the colors are very bleak, too.
i agree. personally, i dont mind insane leveling if it doesnt drive you insane. the game would be enjoyable if there were MORE to it than just lvling. the supposedly huge lagless pvp castle battles (which i dont even believe will exist, try the lag in gludin where players are only SITTING) wont be enough. that is a game FEATURE. this game however, is void of any thought. no story. and no, writing a story on the game's webpage does not count. they have to bring the story INTO the game.
without that, its just a lvling treadmill, as sooooo many have stated.
this game will not be getting cent one from me either.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
I know I'm certainly going to play it. You know if you complain about the lag in some towns try turning down your graphics or zooming in over-head. Besides all that lag is caused by CPU speed as it can't load all the info from the playerhsops. I just upgraded mine and hardly ever lag in Gludio.
I also believe that Sieges will ebf ine if you turn on lower detail and hav ea half-decent computer. This game is still more fun than most other games out there. At least I have no problem killing monsters and monsters over agian becuase in this game, unlike in others, I do not get bored. The world feels so vibrant and alive.
But to each their own. To the first guy complaining about gettin hit too hard by Green-cons. Did ya ever try upgrading your weapons/armor? it would go smoother and you could hunt for an hour without downtime. And if you can't figure out how to get better equipment then I feel sorry for you.
I've decided to not purchase the game. It's just not worth $15/month and a $50 outlay. The game is being developed abroad and that money would justify buying into a fully developed game... not a republished Asian translation. The company running the game, NCsoft, had promised that lauch would be in Chronicles1... the first major patch. But no... we find out now that we have to wait. The rest of the service will be that bad or worse. Also... there seems to be little reason to play. The leveling process is more boring than any other game I have yet played, and the end game will be limited to those who double box. Clans of players will control the endgame completely... there's no point to playing unless you belong to one of the top clans.
Hope other companies learn from the failures of NCsoft.

I have been playing L2 since the open beta sweep.
I currently have a level 19 dwarf, lv 14 human fighter and level 12 mage.
This game is no where close to being balanaced. a lv 15 fighter can own my lv19 dwarf with power strike and power shot with ease. I dont like the fact of equipment can be used by anyone. I have seen mages lv 16-19 using soulshot melee weapons Razorclaws with ease and farm better then a fighter. About the only race that is balanced is Dwarfs, your whole char is based on making money. Its tough and takes alot of work. Elf/Dark Elf/Human/Orc seem all way too simular until you hit level 20. This game has no diversity. Nothing pisses me off more then doing 8 hours of farm runs to gain exp to die to some lame Pk'er stabbing me in the back. While im farming. L2 will not get my 50 + monthy fees.
I will be excited on the guild wars alpha demo. That is a game i look foward too.

I hope when WoW release in Korea absolutely destroying NCSoft , and some other company gets Arenanet like Ubi. It has been way too long since I played a "good" mmorpg, and sadly the last decent one I played is Shadowbane. In some ways this is sad, but really I feel sorry for the NA employees of NC Soft because at this rate they will have to find another job; it's rough in the competetive industry. Even if I do feel sorry for them I will NEVER buy this game. THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY ME TO PLAY IT!!! (at least twenty five dollars an hour)
