"Wake up! Who cares if a Dev cheats in WoW or EQ2?! It's not the same type of game. Cheating in a game such as Eve, where you control space, have a complete player economy and name it is not the same ball park, it's not even the same sport"

So, by having 1 or 2 people on a staff of several dozen, more likely upwards of 50-70 staff, makes the whole company corrupt and evil?

If that's the case, there isn't an honest company out there, be it an mmo producer, soft drink manufacturer or sports team.

Wake up and smell the coffee beans my friend, devs or not, they are still human beings, and power corrupts, end of story.

    Quite true Mode,

If the only way to respond to the 2%(?) dev corruption at CCP is to withdraw from the game of EVE then I suppose the only way to respond to the 2% corruption found in anything you can name is to withdraw from the game of life?

And if someone wants to point out that they are not the same I will agree with you.  EVE is just a passtime, if you can't deal with human nature there then I shudder to think how you manage to deal with it in something important.

But in the end, those who can't deal will leave, and those who can will continue to enjoy the best and most unique MMO experience out there.

Yes, it does actually. Especially if the corrupt staff member is caught, and not fired.

The DEV is at fault for abusing his power.

CCP is at fault for covering it up.

I'm looking at my options in the MMO world as based on the evidence I believe this incident is alot bigger. He was probably taking alot more, he held a high position in BoB and it has been proved other BoB members were aware of the wrong doings. CCP could start of this "task force" properly by firing one rotten apple they claim to have.

At the moment the only losers are the players that aren't members of BoB, if yopu think it's ok for him to cheat and keep his ill gotten gains then fine. Just don't come here and start being abusive because the majority disagree with you!

I've tried EvE Online once, after struggeling thru all the menu's the 1st 30 minutes i got shot down when i moved after that so i couldn't be bothered really :P

But what did happen if i can ask? some "GM/Dev" spawned some "BPO's" (whatever they are) and ppl got pissed? Some hacker found out, posted it on the forum got banned, and ppl got pissed? The guy "mt20" is still around and couldn't be bothered?

Makes absolute sence to ppl that never played this game before :P

t2 BPOs (Tech-2 Blue Print Originals) are extremely rare and can not be earned but only won in a lottery. Players can work together with 'research agents' (these are NPCs or non-player-characters) to earn points for the t2 BPO lottery. The higher level the research agent the more points the research agent gives over time. The more points your research agent has gathered the higher the chance of winning in the t2 BPO lottery. Many players have been playing the t2 BPO lottery for years and never won anything.

t2 BPOs themselves are used to build rare and expensive t2 (Tech 2) items. This includes t2 ammunition, modules and ships. Due to this t2 BPOs are seen as money printing devices my many.

The dev (developer) with the forum name "t20" illegaly spawned multiple of those rare t2 BPOs for his corporation (guild).

However, if I was a new player looking for a game to play and saw all of this crap, I wouldn't even consider starting up a character.  The number of potential players who skip EVE because of the dev misconduct are going to hurt CCP more than the number of current players quitting.
You hit the nail on the head for what just happened to me and a friend I was trying to get to join this game. We both were thinking of jumping back into an MMORPG with the little free time we have but after reading about the Dev corruption we wont be bothering with EVE. Remind me to much of what went on in ShadowBane. Going to holdout for Darkfall.

Well, from someone who has played quite a few MMORPG games and has not found one that comes even close to EVE, after playing for a few months all I can say is, it's your loss.  Good luck finding anything even close!

EVE isnt the be all of mmorpg's. i quit after a year, reason? it's a niche game and always will be. my perception of eve from my third month was it was the devs sandbox to play in and the 31k single subscribers (not counting multi accounts no matter how much ya whine     ) supplying the devs fix to play. it was never their creation for us. seems what i felt was correct.

afte reading numerous posts from the devs and statements like "as a dev i am heavily into pvp and anything i do to this game is heavily influenced by this" this statement put in a blog, ok by itself, after all it is "their" game. the problem arises when we the consumers play for the devs benefit or their convienience. i always felt like i was a guest in eve and not a player.

there are plenty of mmo's coming out and one day i may find one i like. but with this first find of corruption in eve you wont tell me as close as some of the devs are to each other they didnt know. with that, only one question becons. what else do the devs manipulate against players for their own entertainment?

the really sad part is that they are all probably drinking and having a good laugh about how this got blown out of proportion, in their eyes anyway.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.

    EXACTLY, Power corrupts.

Devs shouldn't play and influence customer alliances or gameplay.... Because eventually someone will be corrupt.

CCP DID NOT TAKE APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO ENSURE THEIR GAME, WHICH HAS TRULY EPIC CONTENT THAT CAN TAKE YEARS TO ACCUMULATE AND DEFEND, IS SAFE FROM DEV CORRUPTION.

and that is where they failed.

  • EschiavaEschiava Member Posts: 485

Where they failed, yes, and also where they are striving to make improvements.

I do not fault them nearly as much for underestimating what a developer might do as I would if, after having seen what a dev might do they made no effort to improve the situation.

Obviously they are doing that though.

Sorry, guys, no offence, but... Those of you screamin' about "corruption", "leaving EVE" and other loud things... I'm just gettin' a feelin', that you "has absolutely no life" ;)
DEV cheated, maybe. So what? There are 30000+ players online, I personally doubt that I'll meet someone of the DEV-team very often... I play this game from time to time cause I can't play it 247, tough of course I would like to =), if I had much free time. I don't have napoleonic plans to rule half of the EVE galaxy or be ultra-rich or something. Cause it's too troublesome. Cause it's too damn cometetive. The good thing about EVE is that it has very slow gameplay - no rush needed. So you can play it "for fun", and no "for grind" or "to be #1". My point is, most part of the players won't even notice this - yeah, some guys got cheaty stuff, so what? Did I personally lost something? No. As many other players. This is not life, this is just a game. Corruption in real life - I can't stand it, yes. Corruption in game? Doesn't really bother me. I'm sure, even without cheats, DEV's are on a such level, that only mega-turbo-mmo-geeks with no lives can achieve =) I never was goin' to that level for a couple of years, so why would it bother me? Yes, ppl who play games 24/7, who talk about "achievments in game", about "skill" and so on - yes, they would cry like a babies - "Ohhhh, evil DEV!!! I achieved SO MUCH in this game!!! I value it all very-very-very much! But you broke my heart!!! U CHEATED!!! You made all my ACHIEVMENTS (oh yeah...achievments... in game...lol) look like they dont worth anything!!! *crycrycry*" =))

Games are supposed to bring fun. To achieve somthing ppl got work to do, they play games to relax. So there's no big deal if someone cheated in game - let this be their personal sin =)

Game is supposed to be fun, main fun in this game is doing any achievement, because the mining, pvping, and PVE in this game is really really boring......salvaging, the latest and greatest thing to do to keep up with anyone, boring........

CCP is corrupt, and trying to downplay this activity that does affect the very game because you'll eventually wanna gather power and CCP is not sharing the power....makes me wonder how many of the highest level of ships: titans, are not actually owned by the players....

I personally will never play this game again and am warning others against playing this horrible, dreadful, and boring game.....

    ==========================
The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.

keep in mind, they banned 7 accounts of the person who UNCOVERED the cheating dev.  and still have not reinstated said accounts.

this dev was cheating since, at LEAST last june (9 months by my count), WITHOUT anyone else he works with discovering him?  bull.

this dev ONLY ganked those BPOs?  at LEAST 9 months of not being caught and he ONLY made a few BPOs?  double bull.

just hope you're never on the opposite side of a war that has devs playing.  this could be their token offering to appease the masses.  remember, according to CCP they ALL have to play in order to better the game.  at LEAST 9 months of cheating, and no indepth investigation into how he got away with it without anyone else ever noticing?  without anyone else's involvement, or at least them turning a blind eye (perhaps because they're doing the same garbage?)

think back to ultima online...  remember GMs placing large buildings in illegal locations and then selling them for a fortune on ebay?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
