MMorpg's - going into the general wrong direction?

So. Im a big fan of the mmorpg concept.

But im seeing with WoW(Being the largest mmorpg atm), LORT online and other games, im afraid its heading in the wrong direction.

Im beginning to see that its more a quesiton of getting this level, and then run 242 instances and get a tier 666 of doom gear set. When you have done this... Well, you can either do meaningless pvp, or create an alt.

This seem to be very common now. Grind is what its all about. EVEN in pvp.

Even older games did have an answer to this. Im talking about EVE online and Ultima Online(Which i never got to play).

Im a HUGE fan of PK'ing(A good crafting system never hurt either ). And i like when theres a reason to kill people. The fact that i can take their stuff(Full loot) if im better then them, is real nice. And it boosts my wallet But also seeing myself become better and better over time, is a huge factor. Stats is fun i think.

The word impact is also a huge deal to me. Take WoW. How much impact can a group of players have? Sure, you can steamroll people in battlegrounds, or camp graveyards. But that doesnt cut it for me. Player housing, being able to alter cities, trees, etc. and watch the world grow because of the players impact, and what they do, is very important. Whats the point of living in a static world?

In eve, we have 0.0, which alliances fight over. Very cool stuff.

But atm. the only game that seem to have it like this, is actually EvE online. And with the recent scandale about T20, im beginning to question it.

Also the thing called "Blobbing" is cracking me a bit up. I love solo play(Im  a student, so i only get to play at odd times, usually just after 1PM, so its hard to find people to play with), and being in groups in the weekends. But playing solo alot, its hard to find people to shoot(In general its hard to find people to shoot in eve), that ARENT running around with his 10 buddies. When that happens, im toast.

We have big games like Darkfall, which could be vaporware, around the corner. Im looking forward to that alot. But im not sure if it will save the mmorpg genre.

Is the companies rather making what they think is the best, then what we want. Or do i just expect too much, that games arent capable of?

Or is there never gonna be a game for me? Or didnt i notice game x, that is my thing? Thank you

Frontier 1859. I could write a reply with 10.000 words, but it reading its FAQ would be easier for both of us.

Wow... this post truly amazed me. It seems that even young generation of MMO players for whom Wold of Warcraft has been actually designed beginning to see now that MMOs are getting nowhere. Mate if you want some answers check this thread and see if it will click anything

That is your answer to when things began to go in the wrong direction.

Yes. You will have the ability to use guns. This scene is playing in a western online role-playing games. Colonists were using guns in the 1850's. You will be able to play this game in first and third persone.

    Vaporware.

What makes you feel saying that? I have my doubts you actually visited their website. I think you saw an other player using this term once so now if you cannot make a decent reply, you will just use that word. pathetic...

I totally agree with the OP. This is fundamentally the problem with games like WoW, that achieve incredible financial success - they dumb down future games and spawn me-too MMOs. You see this all the time in Hollywood, some ridiculous movie comes out, does well, and then all of a sudden you have a ton of useless crap movies trying to cash in too.

The MMO mold needs to be broken and games like EVE (which I didn't like but can appreciate) are moving the industry in the right direction - namely, innovation. MMOs don't have to be about grinding out lvls and attaining more gear, they can make you feel iike you are part of something but it just takes a developer who isn't striving for WoWs lvl of success, because to appeal to the masses, you generally need to make something easily digestible and understandable, and these are not qualities that are synonymous with progress/innovation.

Ahhh... once again a post about how all the MMOs out there suck, and that the genres going in the wrong direction. Both new AND intresting. Face the facts people. You simply do not know how to design an MMO better then the people actually making them. Not everybody (Aparently, at least 8 million people) disagree with you're ideas on what a game should be like.

i think i see alot of sarcasm, if not logic fails you drastically.... maybe you should go visit the developers corner before you... mmm.. type?

Edit: Oh i almost forgot, maybe you should see how many people actually agree to these posts. *nod*

On a lighter note... i cant wait for someone to make a MMORPGFPS with a skill system. mmm mm mm.

    Good times are coming.

    Wow dude.

Talking about the "Younger generation" of mmorpg players. Its truely what makes wow so bad. Kids playing smart asses, who manage to fail Simple Logic 101.

You argue that 8 million disagree on what a game should be like.

If we just say that 50% of the wow players never played any other mmorpg before, and thus dont know better. When they experience something like the perfect game in my opinien, they could see the light.

Thats 4 million people right there. Now ofc. this figures are nowhere correct. But i HOPE(Doubt tho) that you get the point

Flaw logic. I am one of those 8 million peoples, i played WoW.. and i could bet everyone posting here has done the same.

Just because someone play/ed a game do not mean he think this game is perfect, or even good. It just means the hype, marketing was high enough to waste 30$ to buy it.. nothing more.

And to be honest, about 90%+ WoW players i know think that WoW sucks at some point(especially the grinding, repitivity, and item insanity), and the other 10% are MMOnoobs, but nevertheless the most of them play it up to date. But why? Just quit simple, because there is no other game out, with actual graphics, which is in any way better. And sorry, EvE is scifi, without Avatar movement, it isnt the same.

I completely agree with the OP, we need a virtual world, where we can shape the world, where your action have some meaning, can influence the world, and not another grinding game, where the only target is to reach lvl xy and grind items xyz.

And i am personally think that it should offer more than just fighting.. all mmo up to date were about fighting.. fighting is cool, really no prob, i love to pvp, but it would be nice if i could do something other than fighting all day long.

Maybe the future will bring us at least one game, which will try anything like that, and not 1000 other grinding games, where the only thing left to say is, if you played 1 you have played all.

Edit: I personally think UO was at least the right direction, it was fun. But to be honest, UO was rather simple in a lot of points, but for a first game in a new genre it was good, the worst is just noone tried to improve it, to bring some more into it. And i dont talk about graphics.

Yeah like ive said in another post, i bet alot of people will leave wow if something revolutionary comes, untill then theyare just too afriad to lose thier time investments.
