True Open Beta?

The supposed open beta for Vanguard required a payed subscription to fileplanet. Will this game's open beta be truly open, or have some BS string attached?

I'm not even sure if they have announced that there will be an open beta or not.    Many mmorpgs have released without them.

    EDIT:

Pre-orders for Lord Of The Rings: Shadows of Angmar will include special monthly pricing options, guaranteed access to the open beta, character roll-over, and two special bonus items

Well there will be an open beta but just from the looks of this quote theres probably not a 100% guarantee to get into it.

Or you could go to Gamestop or EB games, put $5 down on a pre-order to get access to the open beta. If the game is not to your liking you can cancel the pre-order and movethe $5 to purchase something else. *shrug*

It's just a stress test. It will only take few days.

Open Beta begins April 6, 2007 and would only require creating a Beta account.

Those who Pre-Order the game gain access to Open Beta a week early on March 30, 2007.

Only those who Pre-Order get to keep their Open Beta characters at launch, are given two game items, and may subscribe under the $9.99 a month plan or $199 one-time-fee plan.

DO NOT rely on this forum for up-to-date information on the Beta program. Go to the official site and read the FAQ.

Don't bet on that . I was told the same for beta 1 stress test. If you have your key, you will play until it's officially released. At the begining they said that it will be just a weekend or a couple of more days but removing Beta players from the game is not a good policy and they know that very well.

Good luck and welcome to middle earth.

if you Preorder do you have to take the $199 for life deal right away or can i pay $9.99 at first and see if i like it and maybe month or so later decide to pay $199

If you have Preordered, you can only sign up for one or the other when the game goes live. PreOrders will actually have one month, from March 30 to April 24 to try out the game in Open Beta. But once you choose a sub by April 24, that's the one you stick with.

On April 24, the Pre-order Beta characters you created will carry over into the live game and you will find two new in-game items waiting for you.

Be aware that the Pre-Order subs are a special deal for launch only. If at any time after launch you cancel the $9.99/mo subscription and then come back later, you will be charged the standard fee of $14.99 per month. I imagine there will be discounts if you sub for longer periods of time like 3 months, 6 months, and yearly.

There is some wrong information in this thread.  If you pre-order you can start playing on March 30th and keep ONE character from open beta into release.  It is still unknown if you get to keep your monsters from open beta into beta.  I'd wager you don't.

You do not choose a subscription plan until after you use your 30 free days from purchasing the game.  So you get March 30th until late May to play the game before you have to decide on a subscription plan.  That should be plenty of time to figure out if this is a game that warrants a lifetime subscription.

see #10 of the FAQ I have linked here. Pre order open beta is Mar 30, public open is Apr 06. They have not said about whether File Planet or who will host it. The preorder disks will not be in the brick and mortar stores until after 16 February it looks like but that will still give you six weeks to get one. Or order online.

Interesting. The official FAQ still says "characters". Have the devs countered this elsewhere?

Thanks for the clarificaiton Ralsar, I was thinking of the deadline for entering the Pre-Order code. Two months is indeed plenty of time to decide.

"Only Open Beta characters (i.e., one character per account) may be kept as part of the Founders offer. All Closed Beta characters will be wiped prior to Open Beta starting"

So I think it is just one character.  But he might be wrong.  Ramen isn't a dev.
