for PC if you were to buy the game new it would be 30 bucks including all the expansions also the graphics can be enhanced beyond what PS2 can offer

if you were to buy the PS2 ver it would be i think 100 bucks because you'd have to get the HDD with it then buy the CoP and ToAU expansions separately which are $20 each also a keyboard if you dont have one already then again most usb ones work fine on it also to obtain all this for PS2 is very rare since i belive SE discontinued it in stores so you would have to place a back order on SE main site where as the PC ver is in stock in stores

    to sum it up PC$30                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      PS2 $140

also theres a monthly fee of $13 from either interface you choose to play from and an addtional dollar for any added characters you may make after your first

last option xbox 360 ver $60 for the game and includes all expansion

enjoy hope that was helpful happy gaming!

The PC version of the game looks much much better than ps2.   All the ppl I hear bitch and moan that ffxi graphics suck, are obviously looking at ps2 screens only.

Word on the street is that SE is considering, finally, adding a windowed version for pc.   Maybe they realized that probably most of the pc users use windower, regardless of user agreement.  Also, SE is working on Windows Vista compatability for ffxi.   I'm hoping that it will also include updates to make the pc version more like the xbox360 version of the game.

Np lol dont applogize its all good we all start some where ok HDD is the hard drive the FFXI ver for PS2 comes with a hard drive due to it being a large game so large in fact that it needs to be loaded off the HDD and info is stored on the HDD like your character data etc...  also

    Minimum System Requirements

    Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 2000 / XP
    CPU: Intel® Pentium®III 800Mhz or faster processor
    Memory: 128 MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ series graphics processing unit with 32MB

    or ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series graphics card
Sound Card: DirectX®8.1 compatible sound card
Hard Drive Space: 6 GB free hard disk space
CD-ROM Speed: 4x CD-ROM drive (required only at installation)
    Other: Keyboard, mouse

     thats for PC ver obviously

what i was saying about the PS2 ver is that its rarely available in stores nowadays and if you can find it, it comes with the HDD so the total cost is 100 dollars for the game because of the HDD and doesnt come with the expansions

where as the PC ver is only 30 dollars and comes with all the expansions i hope this helps any thing not clear please let me know ps theres a 30 day trial for ffxi when you buy it so if your un sure about it you have 30 days to play it before you decide you want to stay.

Go PC version.  Cheaper, easier to find, better graphics, better controls and you can actually chat with a keyboard instead of using the PS2 version's pre-programmed lines.  Of course you could buy a mouse/keyboard for your PS2, which of course would cost more money and brings me back to the first point.  But if you're new to MMORPGs like you say, chatting with other real people is a big part.  Just felt real clumsy using the controller and saying the same lines over and over.
