I cant get the hang of this crafting lark!! Started with Artificer and am now trying Blacksmiths
Ive got a recipe for "Weighted metal ribbing" which requires 2 copper sheets... so Im thinking where do I get 2 copper sheets from??
Then... I get a works order to make 5 copper sheets so im thinking I will make them then use them for my recipe!!
Ive made 3 sheets out of the 5 for the works order, they are in my inventory so I head over to the refining bench to use them but when I open up the recipe it says I dont have all the ingredients to perfom it... but I have copper sheet in my inventory!
I also have another recipe for "weighted small hilt" which requires copper ore, same problem here as well.
Another question... if I take up harvesting and collect say copper ore... how do I go about using it to create things from it? I cant just go over to the smelting bench and form sheet from it as I dont have a recipe anymore, as it dissapeared last time i used it.
Ps.. im level 4 noob

Also, you cannot use WO "recipe" to make real items. WO are for grinding and making XP.
Copper sheet needs to be crafted (you probably need the recipe) with copper that you harvest and convert (by right clicking on it in your inv).

Copper ingots, and sheets are made from copper ore at a Blacksmithing refining station. I believe you get the recipe at level 3 or 4. Maybe 5.
VGCrafters has some decent guides to help get you started.
did you refine your copper ore at the blacksmiths "refining station"? I think you can make sheets there . so after you harvest copper, you right click the stack in your inventory and convert to ore. from ore you go to the refining station and make(secondary items) ignots, sheets etc. from there you go to the finishing station to make the primary item.
also try using different skills when possible (check their point useage and quality level) and different components to raise the quality level of the items during crafting. sometimes its absolutely necessary at early stages in crafting to attempt to raise the grade level or you'll end up with scraps.
you may need to switch toolbelts during crafting to switch different tools. for some reason, I can only switch between two bags. theres a command called /craftingaddsecondary that allows you to use a third belt. I found that on accident and im still confused why i needed to make this macro on my hotkey bar.

Ok, I think I can help you with this.
1. Making things from work orders gives you EXP only. You do NOT get to use or keep the item you made. You jsut turn it in and complete the work order.
2. Recipes you can make AND keep are able to be obtained at the blacksmith trainer. Those will show up in the normal recipe section and secondary recipe section usually.
3. Copper Ingots and Copper Sheets are the first primary components you make, and are created at a smelter. Ingots are typically for weapons and sheets are usually for armor.
4. Weighted metal ribbing is a secondary component that all of your copper armor will require to make. You make it using copper sheets you created from the smelter.
5. Once you have the weighted metal ribbing made, and you have additional copper sheets needed for the armor, you can craft that item you'll find in the normal recipe section.
Keep in mind that you only get exp for actual recipes the FIRST TIME you make it. After that, you get none. So, in short, do work orders for exp and a little cash, and make actual items for use or to sell. Feel free to ask any other questions you have on crafting, and I'll try to help. It's fairly simple once you get the hang of it.
Thanks for all your help guys, I think ive sussed it out now, biggest tip was right clicking on the stuff in my inventory to convert it, i didnt know that at all.
Ive just turned some copper ore into some sheet, and I had the chance to enhance it with attuning dust, so I added it to my list of items to take to the bench, but how do I add it from there, and at what stage? It never gave me a chance to add it during the process.
