i believe that your thinking of the real time strategy game which is in no way comparable to this title. check out some screenshots so you can see for yourself. although man, a WH40k MMo would be too cool to imagine if they did it right and made it like the old SWG, instead of bs console pvp only faction vs faction bullcrap. let us roleplay at our own pace in the world of the 40th millenium...thats what i want.

WAR is based on the Warhammer Fantasy Battle miniatures game thats been around for over 20 years, and to a lesser degree the fantasy roleplaying game thats been around about as long.

If you know 40k, you will know almost nothing about WAR - 40,000 years allows for a LOT of change, yah know.

Well, it's not like he won't know ANYTHING. There's still humans, chaos, and orcs, Eldar = elves, just add dwarves and put it all in a fantasy setting rather than a sci-fi one. They're not the same, no, but they're based on the same premises, just with different settings. Just don't expect to see Necrons, Tau, or Tyranids.

You won't be COMPLETELY lost, but it wouldn't hurt to read up on the differences and get yourself familar. You've got plenty of time to do so, the game is still about 8 months off.

You question was not very clear. Are you saying you are familiar with 40K lore, or just that you play the PC RTS games for 40K?

If you are familiar with the lore both games feel very similar.

Large empire ruled by the emperor that is rotting from within.

Chaos, Beasts, and other "alien" races vie with humans for limited resources.

    etc....

if you play 40K just imagine placing the stumpies, eldar and humans on one team, and chaos, dark eldar and orks on the other, then place them in a fantasy world.. and well you will feel right at home.

Actually according to the Warhammer background stories Necrons do exist in the Warhammer fanatsy world. They are laying deep beneath the ground in stasis chambers and will first appear for the rest of the world a lot later on. Also in the second edition of the boardgame you had the ability to summon space marines using one of the greater deamons.

in theory yes and no,  they are in that they are fair,  fleet, and graceful in appearence and mannerisms but not in method elves = magic/arrows, eldar = specialists/the webway/craftworlds

What dou you mean space elves! We're not elves! We're just biped humanoids with pointy ears and great psychic powers... oh, and we have been around longer than any of you mon'keigh ( I think I spelled that right).

Don't get me wrong, I love the Eldar. I started playing TT 40k because of the Eldar. The main differnece is that the Empire and the High Elves don't attack each other on sight while the xenophobic Imperium and the arrogant (make that very arrogant) Eldar slaughter each other whenever they get the chance.

If your budget allows it, you should try TT Warhammer. Just by building an army you'll learn a lot of Warhammer lore as the roulebook and the army books are full of stories and have great artwork to boot!

In Warhammer Fantasy, Slaanesh was responsible for the corruption of the High Elves. Those of which would become the Dark Elves.

In Warhammer 40k, the fall of the Eldar race was responsible for the birth of the chaos god Slaanesh.

    "Whosoever shed last blood
By man shall his blood be shed
For immunity of God make he the man
Destroy all that which is evil
So that which is good may flourish
And I shall count thee among my favored sheep
And you shall have the protection of all the angels in Heaven."
