Your opinion on Dread Knights

Since Sigil wants to bring back that old-school EQ-esque with this game, I thought maybe once I got the game, I'd try playing a Dread Knight in memory of my old Iksar Shadowknight from the EQ days.

Not sure if there is a lizardman race in Vanguard; while their web site details classes, they dont seem to mention a word about races. If they do, they're hiding it pretty well. In any case, what I was curious about is, what are some of the similarities/differences between VSoH's Dread Knights, and EQ's Shadowknights? Also, I was hoping to get some opinions on the class from some of you who've experienced playing Dread Knights firstand, or have grouped with Dread Knights before.

Hmm...they must not be too popular since none have yet to share their comments on the class.

I havent played one but i grp with one just about everyday (he's 24 now i think) and from my experience they are fantastic tanks, and decent DPS. Alot of their aggroe is gained through dps so it isn't just auto attack and spam your 1 taunt spell. As for similarities to eq SK's, i don't really think they are very similar at all, but i havent had much experience with eq sk so i could be wrong. IMO they are probably the best tanks to have in a dungeon/grind group because they do great dps and hold aggroe well, but warriors are probably better for the harder encounters (nameds/raid mobs), unless i get a bunch of big crits in a row(sorcerer here).

As for races, no there arent lizard men, i'd check out silky venom for a race list, i think most of the other fansites have one aswell, but SV's is very easy to find.

Total blast to play and my main is a dread knight.  The nice thing is you can go for damage dealing or heavy defense for tanking depending on your situation.  I put points heavily into str and dex which equals hitting critical frequently and triggers chain moves which can be HUGE damage.  When I'm in damage mode I use a two handed sword and almost feel more like a damage dealer.  When I equip short sword and shield it plays completely different and you can take damage as well as most tanks.  Seems for me the trick is to switch depending on the situation but since you can build skills with multiple types of weapons it works well.  I would agree though warrior is a better pure tank.

I was suprised by the spells I'm only 15 but you get some decent damage dealing spells including a nuke that is heavy damage.  The moves of the dread knight are nice with the debuff spells that usually give bonuses to your stats.  You also get a teleport move that chains into a backstab that actually returns health to you so soloing is very possible on many quest.

I don't believe there is a lizard race to play atm, though my friend made a panther race dread knight and seems to really like it.  I went dark elf in the game when it went live and its been fun.  I made a orc dk in beta and it played well also though less criticals and more traditional tank.

All in all my fav class so far between the 3 i'm playing.  All in all they seem to make a better secondary tank in large groups but are completely capable of being main tank if need arises.

I play a Dread Knight and love it, Kurashasa to be precise. I've played it since beta 3 and i'm happyt o see that it works alot better then it did then. On the topic, I've never played EQ so on SK's i dont know much aside from some of the comparisons I've read by other players and a Dev. One stating that the Dread Knight is not meant to be a SK. From my play experience. Were strong tanks, excellent pullers and soem decent CC. We have a decent dot, snare, fear, 2 life taps at lvl 18. Ones an AOE cone and the others a single target. A stun(must be your first attack and be behidn the target). We have a port that jumps us behind a target when we select the next skill, IE port when i select the stun skill or the single target life tap. we get a few strong spells but are on long timers as well as several strong taunts and rescue abilities. An endurance drain which is really helpful, but extremely short but no worries to me. We tank, we dont hit very hard, we tank, nickel and dime dps but it adds up. :D

I've never had a problem maintanking for my group, me and a few other tanks in my guild argue and test alot of things Off the bat a warrior is better, stronger hate skills, Paladins have alot of rescues and group buffs. A DK has to fight the mob for a few secs to really get his hate going, because msot of it relies on Dreadful Contenance, i always stay in my defensive stance usually even pvping. Mostly because i always have a healer buddy with me. With a DK increasing spirtual damage on a target a cleric is a great buddy to keep with you.

My main has been a Vulmane (wolfman) Dread Knight from beta to release and I love it. One thing I always lamented while playing WoW was that I couldnt be a "dark knight" type of class. Thank God Sigil added this one.

The Dread Knight is a good tank and damage dealer. He does feel more like a hybrid between the two than anything else and your weapon choice will swing you in one direction but it wont limit you. In fact, I soloed the first 12 levels with a shield and short sword pretty easily.

Thank you, guys, it sounds as good as I'd hoped. I always like to play a well-rounded character in MMO's. I dont feel the need to be the best at everything, but I like being good at multiple things. I also prefer playing a melee combatant with a little magical backing whenever possible, so Dread Knight sounds perfect.

Too bad there's no lizardman race, but I've heard of other anthropomorphs, I'm sure I'll find one that suits me nonetheless. For some reason I've never much liked playing a fleshie. Just my prefered style I guess.
