Example of a system that runs the game smoothley

Hey there ppl

Noticed a few posts on whether or not ones system would suffice, in order to achieve smooth gameplay.

Well this is how my system looks like and im playing the game with all video settings maxed out:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHZ E6600

2GB DDR2 800MHZ

NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB DDR3 (2x 512mb)

And the rest is as you know, Windows XP, 300GB HDD etc etc.

To all of you in doubt, the gfx card is the key ingredient. Yes of course its good to have great CPU and loads of ram. But at the end of the day, having good RAM and great CPU power wont make the game more playable if you have a crappy gfx card.

Anyways, the game runs like a hot knife through butter.

Cheers.

Was this a nice post or a shameless plug about your computer?  Nice rig tho and I’m glad your enjoying the game.

I apologize, i see what you mean.

Just trying to give an example of what one might need if the goal i smooth performance.

    Thanks m8 :)

I'm guessing your cpu cant keep up with the graphics card. You should put the setting lower or build a new computer.

My set up is much more powerful than that and at the end of Beta the game was still running like a sedated cripple. Either they have seriously tweaked the game since launch or your idea of smooth doesnt exactly match mine (Hell I would have been happy with 20 frames per second).

Eh either way I don't think I will bother til its all sorted and they release a free trial so I can see for sure.

Still not sure how it manages to be such a system hog, personally I think both Oblivion and Everquest 2 have far better graphics, yet they dont require even half the power.

Wow, this is annoying.  I have the same exact set up (although my memory is 667 I think instead of 800 mhz and my graphics card is a 8800 GTX.  Performance for me is not smooth.  It's jerky most of the time, and i'm playing on balanced.

Ouch. its perfect for me on balance. Only getting preoblems on high an highest. Maybe the memory is the key

I did some tweaks, and it helped a lot, but it's still not what I would call smooth.  That's my main complaint.  I thought it was a fps problem, but it's really not.  I can be getting good fps and still stuttering around the screen.  Not sure why.  I'm in a beta right now and I can easily max out all graphics and the game is smooth as a baby's butt.  Go figure.

I'm just wondering if its true that the game was made for DirectX 10, and if so could that be the problem?

I'm really gettin scared about this game, because my CPU is mediocre compared to some speccs I see here

and even the best speccs complain about the game running like cr**.. So I wonder what's happening..

And I've seen the graphics, they aren't even EQ2 good.. so here is my question again.. What the heck is happening?

I heard there were some problems with the 8800GTX card in Vanguard. Im sure its not your card tho since it pretty much is the best atm.

Just need to wait for a patch that supports it better i guess.

As to if the graphic engine's been fixed since beta? Im pretty sure, coz im running it freaking great.

I ve got an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (10% OC) - 2Gb DDR - 8800 GTX  (XP Pro SP2) and I run at High settings (tweaked) usually 30 to 40 FPS 20 in crowded environment).

When I start hitching, I quit and relog because it means I have almost ran out of memory.

For me, clearly the proc is a bottleneck (as are probably the 8800 drivers), the 10% OC gave me a good 2-3 FPS increase. Next step is a used Athlon 64 FX60, faster HD (I wanted a raptor anyway) and sound card (sound off gives me 5 to 10 FPS but it's too boring) to try to get to Highest Quality.

What has really made a difference was to kill all processes not essential to the running of the system. that alone gave me a good 10 FPS and made all the stuttering disapear (on my rig,  the bluetooth process was a real problem.)

My system has the same problem:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6800

4 gigs Corsair Dominator DDR2 1142 (huge bitch to get ahold of)

    BFG 8800GTX 756 megs

Craptastic intel D975xbx2 board [ the asus was not out yet :(  ]

    windows 2000

no matter if I set it an balanced or all out at 1024x 768 the game still jerks around. Don't get me wrong i get like 70fps  but  then It will just chunk out to 12 and back up to 50-70 again. In cities with alot of people it's not smooth at all. Absolutely not what I would expect with this kind of machine. Other games just flat out rock with this setup so has to be something with Vanguard. TBH my other machine does just as well with a 7950!!

I'm not going to brag about my system yet as i just got it put together and currently installing the game again,  My old system ran 30 to 40 fps outside but in towns would pretty much stay around 10.  I didn't upgrade for this game though it just happens to be a side effect for me switching to intel and going DX10.  My old Specs were

    AMD 64 X2 4200

    2x 7900 GTX 512

    2X gig of pc2700 ram

    Sata 2.0 200gig harddrive

    7.1 sound

New system i might post after i see if there was any improvements, but i assure you it's the top of line on just about everything.  So if there's no noticeable improvements than the lag and fps issue is not on the user side.   I love vanguard but the hitching annoys me.

yes they aren't but they will improve and either way it's still better than 7900 series.

    I run the game with:

    Pentium 4  2.4ghz

    1mb RAM

    Nvidia 6200OC

The game definately doesn't run that smooth, but it is playable. I hear people talking all the time about what FPS they are getting in games. I have never paid attention to this, I just play the game if I like it. I did check it in VG, out of curiosity. I average between 5-10 FPS, with spikes as high as 15-20. I also get some hitching from time to time. Yesterday was pretty bad, but I've had days with no hitching and the only discos I've had so far are when they did a restart and I didn't see the message. If you want a game that is smooth as silk, then your SOL.. but there are many others out there that run quite well so go play them. Now if your having other serious problems like graphic glitches I hope you can fix that. I had problems in beta and couldn't even test it. I was able fix it on the last day of beta by using older drivers.   I run the game on High Performance, 1 setting above the lowest.
