i am currently playing VG and love it...but i LOVE the space genre still. i understand (on the most basic level) how eve works...is it something i could play while playing VG? or should i not even try? is it crushing for new players to start? or are there good corporations set up to help noobs. thanks.

I suggest you check out the other threads on this forum and consider carefully whether you want to play this game.

People are 'a bit cranked' at the moment, but i suggest you take the 14 Day Free Trial and take a look for yourself. The client isnt horrible large, just around 550MB download.

Personaly, i like Eve (had to quit for RL reasons in December tho).. but it can be boring, depending on which way you wanna follow in game.

    Can you play VG windowed?

If yes then you should be able to play Most of EVE at the same time.  Though some seem to beleve that EVE is a fighting PewPew Pew blow things up game there is much more to it than simply fighting. There will be times when you can actually be playing and go shopping at the store like when you have a 20 jump trip through hisec. and there will be times where you not only need all of your attention on the game but you needed it 3 min ago.

The question is what do you like to do.

For example, exploring can be one of the worse time sinks in the game yet one of the most rewarding. In high sec you launch a prob to see if any thing is in the system, if there is you then spend the next 15 min to hour tring to locate it  5-8 min at a time (depending on your skill).  In cases like this you can easly do other things as all you are doing in game is watching the scan time count down.

EVE is full of this type of necessary time sinks in high sec.. In low or 0.0 you really should be paying attention

I would imagine EVE as a love it or hate it type of game - it might bore you to tears, or it might fascinate you to no end. For me, it is the best MMO -experience of all time, period. First of all, it has only one shard ( plus one for koreans, if I remember right ), and nearly everything is run by players ( politics, wars, trading etc. ). As such, the game-world in EVE feels alive - it is very exciting to hear rumours of wars at low-sec territories even when one is running missions in high-sec space.

The game is slow, and will require patience, though. If you find a good corporation, it becomes a truly fascinating journey - I, for example, feel like being part of something 'bigger', and that I am actually affecting the world itself, one step at a time. Sure, the universe has such 'evil' empire-like alliances as 'Band of Brothers', but that only makes it more exciting. :)

If you like a deep, intelligent, slow, and long-lasting gaming-experience that feels like another life altogether, go for it. Try it out, at least.

Hi!  Eve, by it's nature fits very well with people who have other things to do with their time.  Since it is not a level treadmill or grind game it does not require large uninterrupted blocks of time in order to advance.

Eve is an easy game to get into for a beginner as long as you are aware of one thing:  EVE will not hold your hand or tell you what to do next.  That is up to you, and believe me, the choices of what to do are nearly endless, even for a new player!

I have been playing EVE for a few months now and have come to consider it the best MMORPG I have played.  (your mileage may vary, of course).

There are excellent new player corporations ingame, but none better (IMO) than EVE University.  They help, answer questions, and train new players in a variety of ares, and are an all-around geat buch of people.

Hope this helps make your decision a little easier.

I'll point out a few advantages of EVE:

Your character can always be improving, whether you're regularly playing or not. Skill training is time based, as long as you sign in to start new training and have a few isk to keep buying skills, your character can improve even if you're not giving the game you're undivided attention.

Even as a 0-day new player, you have a chance to kill an experienced player. Catch them in the wrong ship, or work with a group and you can be an indispensible asset in pvp. Other games, 50 level 1 characters are going to die to a 50, in EVE a year old character can die to a handful of new players...though, they can win too.

Never a reason to reroll, don't like the direction your character is going, buy a new skill and start training. Find you want to return, your old skills didn't go anywhere.

The game has more depth than most other MMO's, can be easy to get lost, or not know what to do or what you could do next. Find a corporation that doesn't mind that its not the only game you're playing and will help to introduce you to the game.

There really is no longterm benefit to picking one race over another.

whatever race you start can train for the weapons and ships of the other race.

As a new player you won't qualify for AVA but there are other corporations in our alliance who are recruiting new and newer players.  If you're interested drop me a line in game or join our channel:  AVAInfo and ask about the alliance.    We're a PVP alliance homed in 0.0 but we have players in highsec and lowsec as well.
