PMS much? Nope, no PMS here, how about you? See that is exactly what I mean. It's pointless having a normal conversation around here without people coming across as as*holes.
That footage isn't half as bad as the combat footage I've seen. There was one clip that showed a group fighting on these steps and the combat animations were absolutely horrible.
The fight with 1 mob took forever too. It was a whole party vs. 1 guy and they all did there robotic hack and slash over and over and the Monk or unarmed character did robotic punching and then... /dramatic intake of breath... a robotic looking spin kick. The moves cycled over and over and over.
I was thinking to myself if the animations look that boring on high lvl characters there's no way in hell that I'm gonna pay a monthly sub for this game. I'm pretty sure that the combat footage is on the official website.
Hopefully the animations and graphics get upgraded and cleaned up before release. If not I won't be playing this game.
Graphics and animation don't make a game, but in MMOs where you have to basically sit and watch your character do all the fighting, the animations better be good or it just won't hold peoples attention.
guys, come on, stop picking on Nichole. geez, on behalf of the male population, i apologize. i know you prolly wont hear it from them, but im sorry.
on topic though, Guild Wars has freagin awesome graphics. there is no debate here. are they better than Vanguards? personnally, i dont think so. but in order to know for sure, youd have to be able to do a side by side comparsion. what you all have to realize though is, that some of the screenshots that you see on the main pages for these games and such, are airbrushed, doctored up, if you will. of course, theyre going to look freagin awesome. the devs. dont want you to think that the graphics suck. so of course, theyre going to show you the best pics and such. every game company does this. even Vanguard /dodges the incoming flaming bullets
the ingame videos though look great, IMO. ive seen them all. you cant take one video made at 640x480 show it full screen and say, "ewwww, these graphics suck." thats just dumb. who runs their games at 640x480 still? i dont, i run mine at like 1200x1000x32. and most of the games that i play run great and look stunning.
so bottomline is, wait till open beta to make the judgement call on the graphics. cause right now the only ones that know what the graphics look like in actual play are the closed beta testers. and they dont even know for sure what the graphics are eventually look like. beta=not finished.
Well, I still stick to what I first said about the graphics. Now that I actually own the game and have played it I am still very unimpressed with the graphics. I heard all of these great things about the graphics and the character creation but they're just not that impressive and so far there is nothing about the game that has impressed me much. I'll continue with it for a bit, but I don't see me getting passed the boring graphics which are more reminiscent of EQ1 than EQ2.
The world of vanguard has some nice graphics. The characters are poor, customization is lame, and animations are very lame. Fighting animations which are very important to me, are pathetic in Vanguard. Vanguard looks worse than DnL did as far as animations go. Vanguard has the potential to be a fun game once all the bugs are fixed, but for me the sub-par quality of the characters is what drove me away - pretty scenery isn't enough in my book, especially with the system requirements.
I had hoped that after playing beta for so long that when release came the characters would look better and that the fighting would be better - it is not.
On high the graphics are amazing. On balanced the graphics are still good. I personally prefer them than eq2. On lowest its like playing free-to-play. the trees look 2d so it just looks rubbish.
I get alot of hitching if i put the texture on highest so i leave them on default. With all the lighting effects you dont need the high texture it still looks amazing.
Graphics aren't everything for me, but considering the requirements of this game, they would have to blow me away to make it worth it for me to spend tons of cash (that I don't have) to upgrade my system in order to play it. From what I've seen from other threads and forums, my current rig would probably get about 25-30 fps in the open and 10-20 in town with a balanced or lower setting. That would just kill the game for me. It's the immersive content and lore that got me intrested in this game to begin with, but no amount or depth of content would make up for agonizingly slow frame rates and/or settling for 2D graphics on brand new game I have to pay to play. I've become way too spoiled to move backwards.
From what I've read and heard so far, I would only be setting myself up for disappointment if I try V:SoH now. I really hope that in 6 months or so they fix the performance bugs and graphics issues. I've had high hopes for this game....hope I didn't get them too high.

Here's an example of some Vanguard graphics that has me concerned....
