My husband and I just came back to XI after an absence of a few years. We've been playing EVE for a looooong time, but we've got burnout now and wanted something different. None of the games out now or the ones coming out soon appealed to us, and we've been FF fans since we were very, very young.

The game is just as friendly as I remembered it being. The grinding hasn't changed much, if at all, and you still need a party to do anything past lvl 10. I don't think that's a bad thing though. If you've played the other games in the franchise, you know that you almost NEVER play alone. You're in a party, and even though you're controlling the other party members, you're still in a party. It's one of the fundamental traits of the franchise, and playing a FF game without a party would seem.....weird to me.

From what I've seen (and it's only been about a week since we picked up the Vana'diel Collection 2007), there are plenty of new players around, and even though we haven't hit 10 yet, once we do, I'm not too worried about finding others to party with. That's just my .02 though.

If you land on Valefor and are looking for a party once you hit 10ish, send a tell to Serielley in-game.

To heal, you can type /heal, or depending on your keyboard setup, h. To my knowledge, all of the servers have about the same population, so I can't really say which one is the best choice for what you might be looking for.

In the Playonline viewer, go to Games and then Final Fantasy XI. Click on Content ID and then where it says Expanded Services, click on register ID. Login and enter the code from the back of your instruction manual.

I hate to admit it but I left when WoW came out......now I am no WoW hater, I had some great times in WoW and I wouldn't see that its the best but it is certainly a good game.....for a time.....but leaving FFXI was the BIGGEST mistake I have ever made in my mmo life, once I tried to go back after I stopped playing WoW I had lost my character on FFXI, and I really tried to start again but I just couldn't do it..  I have never found a game since that has held me or had as good a time in as FFXI.  If I had the time I would definatly go back to FFXI, and I really wish I could, but I just don't have the time to devote to it like I used to.

    My opinion matters to everyone...

I left FF11 to play wow too, i played for about a year but i left my ff11 account activated or reactivated once every few months to keep my character alive.  I agree leaving ff11 was a big mistake but now nobody i know really plays and its just not as fun anymore without them. :(

I get where you're comming from lol.

i played this game back in may 2004 and quit around october (I only spent 5-6 months playing) and suprising to me in those few months I got quite a lot done. Lv.63 DRK, Full AF gear, Rank 8 in the process of doing Rank 9-10 missions with my LS, had all the Leveling requirements done untill fighting Maat at Lv.70. With my 63 Dark Knight I also had a 37 War, thief and 20-something NIN.

Before I quit WoW I had 60 mage, epic mount, full mage (magister) set, full inventory set, maxed out proffesion skills etc. My character was way leet, the best u could get actually seeing as it was before Molten Core and all this big 40+ character instances.

I dont regret leaving as this game was way to addicting for my own good lol, but I played WoW when it came out, it was fun and is a great game for sure; but in the long run it can never compete with FFXI. only true ffxi players who gave the game a chance would know what Im talking about xD

Btw Lazzerus what level/rank/class etc were u?

As for the topic, yeah go for it. deep down i wish i could play it again myself, but just like Lazzerus i dont have the soul/motivation for it to do all that grinding and all that time LFG etc all over again. I really dislike doing stuff ive already done because it feels like a complete waste, but I cant play anyway. there's just no time in my life for it, and its out of the question. I'm not the type to play MMOs "casually" anyway, it's stupid. anybody looking for MMOs which are very friendly to casual players are in the totally wrong genre for games. For me, with MMORPGs it's either all or nothing. Meaning I play the hell out of that game, like 90% of my waking hours or I dont play, simple as that. no way I would force myself not to play or restrict my gaming hours unless it was absolutely crucial.

well enough on that. destro3979  you want to be a fighter; but it also seems like you'd like room to do more; in which case I suggest go for an Elvaan race. it seems more balanced generally than the Galkan race.

As for finding parties, it can always be difficult, but it can also be quick and easy as long as there are people willing. so in other words, it depends of course But if u got friends like you said playing, then you can always group with them and form a static party. But if they're Lv.75 will they want to start another job from scatch with you? well maybe they could actually if bored lol.
  • destro3979destro3979 Member Posts: 470

    ya...
    im an elvaan mnk
my friend is willing to power lvl me to 40 for the low low fee of $50
    thats not happenin...
i think its against the rules too?

    image

  • HiyesHiyes Member Posts: 17
good, if he was a true friend sure he'd do it for free?

either way i dont think its really against the rules but u shouldnt power level especially if its your first time, u just gotta experience the game properly! ask ur friend when u want to start leveling a different job.

for example if u get to Lv.50 and wanna start a new job for fun or something then power leveling that way is okay since you already know what leveling is about anyway
  • narakuunarakuu Member Posts: 348

    1. too lazy to check it out and someone already pretty much summarized it... but i didnt see any mention about the new jobs? yea theres corsair and puppetmaster or whatever its called... i dont remember.

    2. it is actually easier? they have added items that give you more exp.

    3. i hope so... >.>

im thinking of coming back too... my character is on the hades server, 40/20 mnk/war   if i remember correctly... thing is that i came back once before... and i quit again because its really time consuming, but at the same time i personally get an awesome feeling when accomplishing something in this game.

the fighting is really fun in my opinion, even if getting a party is sometimes a nightmare.. and sometimes the party is a nightmare... i remember once when i was in a party and one guy was a galka whm, people in my party were like making a joke about it and he became all childish and ran away crying >.> ...

but theres also awesome people in the game... i have been in a few linkshells now and i liked them all so far... most people are really helpful and dont ask for 50$ to help you <.<... my latest one was the best, i went to my first ballista with them and it was sooo freakin fun... i love the dig for items while fighting thing and coordinating with your ls members where to attack and what to do and so on... i guess the people complaining about pvp is that there is none in the open world or whatever you wanna call it... but i find ballista to be really awesome fun.

but anyway... i will probably return to ff XI sometime in mars.. but then again maybe even sooner... o.O .... my char name is the same as my mmorpg account.

p.s  .....ITS NOT FROM INUYASHA! .... i get that question all the time... >.>....it means hell in japanese...some japanese people even try to talk with me sometimes in the game.. but i failed my japanese class, so that doesnt go very well <.<
