Trying Free Trial. Any pointers?

dirtyd77dirtyd77 Member UncommonPosts: 383

Ok so I have heard so many good things about this game that I have to give it a try. I know there seems to be some issues with misconduct and the handling of it here lately, but that has no bearing on me at this point.

I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on the game and maybe some advice for someone who has never played a second of it before.

Thanks in advance!

ya, quit now, don't waste your time and money on ccp.

find another game that the developers do not cheat to help themselves and their buddies inteh game, then cover it up and lie to the rest of the playerbase.

If you just want to tool around in spaceships and blow up npcs, you really don't need any advice. Just play. The veld mining, mission running phase of gameplay is pretty idiot-proof. Some like it so much, they never do anything else.

Lol guys, play game for more than 10 minutes before posting.

    Eve online ftw

Read, then read some more, then read even more.  Player Guides --->  http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/

    Complete the entire in-game tutorial.

Browse the EVE-O forums and read the stickies as they contain a good bit of information and links to more information.

    Forums --->  myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp

Get EVE Monitor!  This is a MUST HAVE.  It helps you keep up with your skill training schedule.  Always remember to try your best to keep a skill training at all times.  When you go to bed, set a long skill -- when you are sitting in front of the game, keep short skills training.

Lastly, start looking around for Corporations that will recruit newer players, has active people in your time zone and that will help you out!

    Good Luck, Have Fun!

Thanks  Kovah,  that is what I was looking for.  And thank you to all of the people who responded you tips are much appreciated. I hope the fiasco that is going on does'nt ruin the community. I heard such great things about the community for EVE and it was always refreshing as being a 3yr SWG vet I have seen a community crumble and I would hate to see that happen here.
  • kovahkovah Member UncommonPosts: 692
I doubt we will witness any crumbling.  What you are seeing/reading/hearing is the "vocal minority."  The majority of EVE players do not post on nor do they even care to pay attention to the forums.  You will be hard pressed to find any of the disgruntled folks that agree with my statement because they want to believe they are in the majority but that just is not the case.

Course, I have no proof to backup my claims but none of the nay-sayers have anything to disprove my statement either...  :)

Sift through the drama, it will all settle eventually.

Kovah is completely correct, the vast majority of the forum moaning about the recent problems is being done by a very vocal minority. Most EVE players (myself included) are totally unaffected by it as they arent in an 0.0 alliance, yet the nay-sayers would have you believe it is the end of the world.

In my opinion, the best bit of advice for EVE is to decide a goal for yourself and stick with it.

If you are hell-bent on playing do this:

Fight.  Learn combat.  Don't give a damn about anything else.  Then join one of BOBs enemies, and fight them .  Eventually they will invite you to join them - take it.  You will then get a free T2 BPO.  Maybe even a job at CCP.

    Cheers.

Bottom line is this -  When you lose, and your ship is destroyed (and it will happen, many times),  you will *never* really know if it was a fair fight.

If you can live with that, and are a true PvP player, then EVE is a fantastic experience.

For me, nothing that CCP says or does now can remove that ever nagging doubt about the game.

Devs playing the game is a good thing.  Devs getting away with cheating, harrassing (in RL) the player that expose them, and whitewash by the company : this is a bad thing.

Enjoy it if you can.  I cannot.  So, on to something else.

Sure DirtyD, I'll be glad to share a few thoughts from my experience with EVE.

First, EVE, as a sandbox game does not guide you with quests or hold your hand, leading you every step of your character development.  What  you do with your character is up to you to decide, and up to you to bring about.  EVE supplies the tools necessary to do just about anything you set your mind to.  Be as imaginitive as you like, chances are, if you can think up a role for yourself, EVE will let you do it.

EVE is not about the destination, it is about the journey.  If you are not addicted to the goal, you will find the journey to be rich and rewarding.  Don't be in a rush to get a battleship, in other words, there is plenty to be gained from fighting in frigates and cruisers.  The same applies if you choose careers in industry, mining, whatever.

EVE is best enjoyed in the company of others.  If you can manage it, find a corporation with players of similar interest and join them.  It is in player corps taht EVE really comes alive.

EVE is a dangerous place.  Be careful!  But also, don't get too attached to your ships, because they can be blown out from under you at any time!  Also, don't undock in a ship that will be painful to lose.  If you can't replace it easily, don't fly it.

Your mileage may vary of course, but for me, EVE is the most intriguing, most engrossing, and most enjoyable MMO gmae I have played.

    Good Luck!

P.S.  Always, if you don't know, ask questions!  The EVE community loves to show off its knowledge and provide great answers to all sorts of questions!  And, they are very helpful too.

    Eschiava,

Thanks for putting time into that response. That was a great response and really shows a clear picture. I will be hopping in tonight to give it a wirl.

true, the majority do not care to follow the events or forums, and thus have no clue they are paying for a game that the developers cheat in, give their buddies special treats and info.

CCP and their lapdogs wish only for what will happen, for the playerbase to foget the misdeads of the developers, forget that one group is favored by ccp, and those that do know what happened will fade away...as we are, by quiting the game...yes, it will happen...

Feel free to toss money at ccp.

Just don't whine later that ccp employees cheated, exploited, gave favored attention and info to their pet players.

Also don't pay too much attention to the current scandal. Of course it did happen, but the general rule for EVE and any other MMO is that those who aren't happy post much much more than those who are. Therefore you will get a lot of people posting about how bad and terrible it all was and that all of  CCP are cheaters, and far far less people who say that CCP aren't all cheaters and there is nothing really that wrong at this time. Almost always a seemingly larger number of people really pissed about something than there really are.

Hope you enjoy your time playing EVE!

    Have fun man

and yea dont listen to the people here pushing the scandal in everyones face. they are just being drama queens/kings. in reality its trivial matter at best also we dont know if the punishment will change when CCP's director gets back from vacation as i heard hes currently not in the office.

    Oh not true...

The general rule is actually, that the majority of dissatified customers just leave and never say why, it is the minority of the dissatisfied that will stand up and complain.  (this is true of any customer and business)

With Eve, ya it can be fun, just stay in a npc corp, never leave it. At least in an npc corp, you wont have to worry about an enemy having the upperhand due to ccp staff helping their friends...that is unless you want to goto the 0.0 space where all the best stuff is at...and those that 'supposedly' get  help from ccp live

...or embrace the concept of dishing out grief, and shoot noobs within the games mechanics.

New players might have fun, or discover that what the vocal explayers have been saying is true, and it isn't fun...the choice is up too you, I just  hope you figure it out during the two week trial, and don't feel like you been burned after a few months.
