i've played about everything, except this - and am currently waiting for it to finish downloading..
i keep hearing about the extensive grinding in this game, which is a plus imo. but i'm wondering, just for comparsion, is it worse or better than the grinding in EQ1?
eq1 seems to be the most grind-intensive mmo i've played so far, and i'm wondering how L2 grinding compares to that...?
secondly, is there end-game character advancement (not just equipment)? again, like EQ1 aa's... once you are maxed level can you improve or grind other skills or abilities?
and lastly, i'm thinking i'll play on Bartz based on people's posts here. is that the best server for a new player? i want the server with the mosty english-based community.

and remember that this game is pvp oriented and that is the fun there {my opinion}. but get ready to see bots everywhere.
Lots of starter info at www.lineage2.com and www.l2blah.com.
Good game, best out on the market right now, in my opinion.
see you in game!
Grind? It is VERY VERY long! Quests are basically pointless and offer little or no reward. Only quests worth while are class change, ones that you get extra something for an area you grind in anyway, or a few others that are interesting and for raid bosses. You will find many people choose to bot, either to level for them or have their own healer/buffer. If this doesn't bother you, then no worries. If you want one you can find a cracked L2walker, but you can get banned, and if you don't know what you are doing I can guarentee it. If you find some good ppl to play with, you will have a good time.
End game is grinding for better levels and getting better gear so you can be stronger than your opponent. Basically in this game the difference between 2 classes of the same level of the same class is gear.
Bartz is a big server. Basically one large alliance runs the whole place though. Franz is a Euro server. Any server can be good or bad, it is almost based on luck who you meet and how your initial experiences go. If you know someone to play with, it makes it a lot more fun.
Give it a try. I am gonna go with, you don't know until you try.
The reward for the effort is usually small and not worth it, but if you take a quest in a place that you are going to grind in anyway, it is a little extra something.
If you actually read the quests, they can be quite interesting. There is a quest in the forest of the dead (a very long quest) but the story line is pretty good imo.
The quests are basically two types. Talk to someone, go kill monsters collect items bring them back, maybe do it a few more times, and you get something. There is also the quests where you run something to someone. And there are longer quests such as your class change quests that are a mixture of both. But that is basically it. So grabbing a quest where you get 20 adena per item in an area where you think you may kill 2000 mobs, would be a bit of extra money, and worth it. But you usually don't hunt in an area because of it's quests (sometimes you do) but you hunt there because you like it, exp is good, and the quest is just a little added bonus.
Some people like running quests all the time, some people like grinding and doing what they want. I have met players from WoW that love the L2 grind, and I have seen players leave L2 because they hated it.
Compared to other MMO's out there, I wouldn't say L2 quests are bad, except for the low rewards. Because they are pretty much the same.
I play Guild Wars once and a while, because I own it. But I don't necessarily find those quests very interesting, except for maybe some cut sceens. That is suppose to be a quest based game.
WoW is about questing! L2 is about grinding to PvP. Few people I run across love to play L2 just for the grind, maybe at first they do, but after 75 or more levels they don't want to really grind anymore, they just pvp basically.
Most WoW quest help you progress in the game, where most L2 quests will most likely slow you down slightly when it comes to actual leveling speed. Thats the main difference.
If you enjoy setting at your pc all day every day killing 1000's of the same mobs then this game is for you. That's all there is to it, kill kill kill, your eyes start to bleed so ya wipe them off and then kill kill kill some more. After half a year of this if you have met the right people you can enjoy some raids, castle sieges and pvp, if not then you leave the game. L2 gives a totally new meaning to the word grind and EQ1 doesn't even compare to it.
With that said, EQ1 wasn't so much the grind to me as it was the camping for that uber item you had to have. I had 2 18 hours camp sessions for JM boots in Najena(old school EQ) and never got a pair. days upon days trying to get a set of Rubi armor, SSOY...etc. The leveling was pretty easy and even when it first came out it only took a couple of months to reach max lvl. L2 on the other hand took almost a year for the first person to max out, now it isn't so bad because you can get power leveled and the majority who do max out do so because they bot.
I'm sorry.. but I have to respond to this.. It won't take hours upon hours to get high level? What are you referring to as high level? For that matter, what's your definition of "hours upon hours"?
Come on... It's subjective and some people can certainly handle it better than others, but even long-time vets of the game who still play will tell you the grind is insane. I remember people being thrilled and considering it a fruitful session to go up a few percent after 6+ hours of grinding, on the same 3 mobs, toward the end game. Hell.. I got to level 64 before I finally got fed up with the game, and it was driving me nuts.

If you don't like long games, then just don't play.
