I really miss this game. I loved to role play in this world.
Is it true that player-placed campfires are in the game now? Would like to hear more about this.
*Can they be placed anywhere?
*Can any class craft them or are they simply bought from an NPC?
*How do they work? Just drop it on the ground?
*How long do they last?
*Is it just for RP or do they offer some protection from aggro?
*Do they give off any light?
*What exactly do they look like?
I remember campfires/sites from SWG. They were great for RP'ing. When I heard about DAoC adding them I was surprised (strange that Role Players often get a raw deal in online RPG's). Don't really care if they have a real function or not. Any info would be great.

Anywhere except RvR zones(you can use them in Darkness Falls though).
*Can any class craft them or are they simply bought from an NPC?
All humanoids drop them in classic and shrouded island zones.
*How do they work? Just drop it on the ground?
You right click it in your inventory and type "/use", or drag the little icon from the tooltip to your hotbar and click the icon. After that it's used up and disappears from your inventory and the campfire appears on the ground.
*How long do they last?
30 minutes AFAIK.
*Is it just for RP or do they offer some protection from aggro?
They recover some of your health, endurance and power when out of combat every 5seconds or so.
*Do they give off any light?
Yes.
*What exactly do they look like?
Well, like any other small campfire, except that the fire doesn't quite look like a fire but more like a spell effect or something(that's the first impression it gave to me...)
Wondering, does this mean that you can only acquire them from random drops? There is not a way to buy them from NPC's or craft them?

You can check the Market Explorers -- players sell them .. some for reasonable amounts -- some more...
There are 'roleplay' ones but the usuable ones are
Rusty - Waterproof - Everspark and Enchanted
