Sorry, I can't agree, especially if that's your idea of a good screenshot. What's good about it? That you can see real far like? I see no discernable color scheme, uninspired monolithic architecture, framed by unnaturally flat featureless terrain, and water that looks about as real as what you'd see in a foamboard landscape model.
I am sorry but that screenshot looks as if some model cut out of card board. its dull and bland. I think even today Guild Wars has better life like graphics then Vanguard.
I agree with the premise of this thread, Vanguard looks gobsmackingly beautiful in many areas. Though that screenshot is crap to be fair, it really doesn't do the game justice. I don't know why people post screenshots of Khal, it's one of the worst looking cities, and the performance there is perhaps the worst in the game.
I mean Khal is a desert, and while I'm sure that opinion will vary, barren plains dotted with trees with a craptastic city doesn't look pretty in my eyes.
Post some better screenshots than that for Bob's sake, you'll put people off, not convince them it's beautiful.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I've wondered why in Vanguard I can see into water so easily and yet I can't see for crap while in water. While they have added some cool eye-candy type features to Vanguard, I can't imagine how folks think it is so amazing to look at. A bit of vegetation would be nice. Some variation would be neat. But I am arguing artistic design over technical capabilities here. The first can overcome the second, but not vice versa.
You have to be in game to appreciate the grand scale of it all. You can't get vistas like this in other MMORPGs and then run to every place you see on that screenshot.
There, better. Looks like crap. But now I can actually move. Sort of. EQ2 looks grand on max quality too. So what. After 2 years, still no one is able to play EQ2 on max quality. And 2 years from now, no one will be able to play V:SoH on max quality. If they can even play it at all (on Vista). Certainly cannot do so now.

The problem with Vanguard is that once you get to those places that look all pretty from a distance, there's nothing to do there but the same thing you've done since day 1.
Vanguard just isn't what it promised, and I think at the very least, it's never going to be anything but another mediocre MMORPG
I've seen a lot of screenshots from people trying to prove that Vanguard's world is beautiful. That screenshot has got to be the worst. Seriously, there is no beauty in that shot whatsoever.
Seriously. It's Are'el. This forum doesn't allow apostrophes in usernames.

Oh trust me, I do appreciate the scale. That is neat. But I think it could be sooo much better.

Are you sure it's supposed to be a desert? Surrounded by water like that?
What would you consider a better example of Vanguard's beauty? Could you suggest a location, and what starting race I might try to get a look at it? I was thinking maybe it's just that some areas got a lot more attention than others.. maybe the unfinished ones should come with a disclaimer or something.

Originally posted by ntcrawler I think it looks really good. i like how you can see the landscape underwater.
Until you actually swim underwater, then everything gets obscured. Heh. Some weird effect they're using I guess. Honestly though, they should make the out of water vision a bit more blurred and obscured like you'd expect in real life.
Ok i had enough of people saying this game looks good, if you would know anything about game programing and texturing you
would'nt say that,
high polly count does not make a game look good, it makes most system lag, you can make a game look 10 times better then this whit 1/4 of the polly count it has, WHIT TEXTURING.
The engine in this game is outdated, feels like an edited unreal engine, its horrible.
Even some free korean grind fests have better engines, common people, you paid for a dud, i did, at least admit it.
Seamless world = no '' you fanboys stop calling it chunking, its a ZONE LOAD''.
Experience Synerggistic combat= no, the AI in this is barely above super nitendo grade, my hair dryer has better AI.
Even if they fix 50% of the engine bugs, which wont hapen, this game will still be a horrible, ugly grind fest, culminating in an unexisting
end game.
Flame on.

that picture kind of looks like crap to me.. sorry
The thing which that screenshots is showing which you really can't see just from the shot itself is the pure scale of Vanguard. That shot is taken from high on a cliff wall of the city of Khal about 3000 meters below. I challenge you to jump from that cliff and not get butterflies in your stomach.
The O.P. is spot on: on highest settings the graphics in Vanguard are breathtaking. Sad thing is most of you won't get to see them in motion.
I agree... I think the graphics are insanely beautiful... and my computer is decently outdated.
Deserts are areas which receive very little precipitation (less than 10mm a year). As a wide classification deserts are regions that have a moisture deficit on an annual basis. Vegetation is exceedingly sparse, rainfall is rare and infrequent. The ice caps of the north and south pole, glaciers, and the classic ideal desert all are considered deserts within the scholarly definition.
So yes, a coastal region such as Khal would have the vegetation that is present in the game and there could/would be an ocean much like that of the Coastal Saharan in East Africa.
Sure the screenshot isn't the best... but it's nice enough for who it's for. Give the guy a break
That screenshot looks off to me. It's like the buildings and statues were just randomly placed there in the middle of the area, because they don't mesh with the environment around them. The city looks like it's outside of the terrain, and seems awkwardly placed.
Add to that a very washed out, bland color scheme and it doesn't really look all that impressive. Maybe a better location would show off what Vanguard can look like at the highest settings.
I Don't really think it looks that good. Wait a sec while I turn my graphics settings back to High Performance. There, better. Looks like crap. But now I can actually move. Sort of. Um, I have been playing EQ 2 max everything for awhile now and my friend plays vanguard with an nvidia 8800 xfx and gets upwards of 200 frames a second
that picture kind of looks like crap to me.. sorry

Was that screenshot really taken on the highest setting?
Cause yes, there is scale which you're writing about, but these blocks look like textures did not load properly or LOD option is turned to maximum. Ugly. Grand in scale, but ugly.
What is all this "Grand in Scale" stuff? The map is large, but there's not much to it really. It just becomes a pain in the ass because it takes an hour to go anywhere worthwhile.
And surely it doesn't refer to the game itself, because Vanguard is the ultimate example of the cookie-cutter MMORPG, with very little original and a major grind.

O ya you can see far, you can see that your gona run for miles on end and see nothing, a rock here, a tree there, the
only thing its got is the bump maps on the hightmaps, thats it.
Classic atitude, you pay for something, and then your a little pissed off when you first use it, but you tell alll your freinds its great, you even
tell them they should get one to, you want others to be in that mess whit you, dont wana feel alone.
Stay away people, i'v tried every game out there, i give them a good honest try, both for pve, pvp, crafting etc..this one has nothing but pain.
