Not to amazing looking, looks pretty bland actually.
Here is one from 2 different games both over 2 years old if you want to just go on "looks". And these are just yanked off this site in a few minutes. You could probably come up with much better.
GW
EQII
EDIT
Here is an oldie but a goodie I almost forgot about, one of the grand daddies of MMO's. This MMO is older then dirt lol (in MMO time)
The king of first generation MMO's: Dark Age of Camelot.
I Don't really think it looks that good. Wait a sec while I turn my graphics settings back to High Performance. There, better. Looks like crap. But now I can actually move. Sort of. EQ2 looks grand on max quality too. So what. After 2 years, still no one is able to play EQ2 on max quality. And 2 years from now, no one will be able to play V:SoH on max quality. If they can even play it at all (on Vista). Certainly cannot do so now.
Um, I have been playing EQ 2 max everything for awhile now and my friend plays vanguard with an nvidia 8800 xfx and gets upwards of 200 frames a second
I play EQ2 on max settings as well. I currently have a 8800 GTS.
I don't buy that your friend plays Vanguard with a 8800 GTX and gets over 200 FPS. Not going to happen. Better see what your friend is smoking.
That picture of Khal doesn't do this game justice. The only other MMO which can remotely compare is EQ2 on very high settings. I would say Guild Wars looks good, but the character models are enough to make me cringe, even if the environment is decent. And even now DAoC doesn't look half bad best of the old school.

You have to be in game to appreciate the grand scale of it all. You can't get vistas like this in other MMORPGs and then run to every palce you see on that screenshot.
Oh trust me, I do appreciate the scale. That is neat. But I think it could be sooo much better.
No, it couldn't, not from that distance. That's why the game is already so taxing on CPU and RAM.
You don't get this in other MMORPGs. They have only a fraction of Vanguard's view distance and consequently you only ever see things up close.
What you're seeing there is HUGE. You get up close and it looks amazing, a full city. No zones. You walk right through the city gates and walk around town.
That screenshot looks off to me. It's like the buildings and statues were just randomly placed there in the middle of the area, because they don't mesh with the environment around them. The city looks like it's outside of the terrain, and seems awkwardly placed.
Add to that a very washed out, bland color scheme and it doesn't really look all that impressive. Maybe a better location would show off what Vanguard can look like at the highest settings.
That's only because you're viewing it from such a vast distance away that only more basic stuff is being rendered.
If you get close that area is extremely detailed with the terrain, trees, foliage, rocks, structures, debris, etc.
Did you even notice the full sized ship in that screenshot? Use that for scale, and a human figure from that far would be nothing but a pixel on your screen, if that. THAT's how far away you are, and that's how huge the dock structure you are looking at is.

It's called a lack of optimization/efficiency. It's usually something that is worked out BEFORE release.

People are already playing on highest quality.
It's called envy.
Sorry I was going to post pics but they are messed up so ignore this post.
