SOE more active than led to believe?

Some people think SOE has a more involvement than what is released. But then we see SOE pushing an early release. Can a co-publisher do that? Is there more to SOEs involvement in VG?

Please explain what you voted for......

only a fool would release vanguard this unfinished, in the same month as the burning crusade.

now, who remembers what company instituted the the major ruinating changes in SWG?  hm....

i can only wonder if soe is the only publisher dumb enough to do things like this, only wonder :)

Learn one fact. This game is the 2nd most expensive mmo to date. They had to release.

Sigil has stated, SoE has provided support to Sigil in the form of Finance and Staff. Whether or not SoE still provides that support, is what matters...

And as we see it going, Its going to be the worse failure ever!  By the amount of money they spent,  Couldn't they hold it another 6 months and finish the game?   The game had great potential, really a lot of things that many people were waiting for,  However, Too many bugs, and performance issues, + the time couldn't be worse(WOW expansion).

Correction: it's the second most expensive MMO, yet the game had to be released early because they ran out of money and time to develop it. They're expecting players to pick up the slack and pay for the final stages of development by purchasing and subscribing to an unfinished game.

Five years of development time, and millions spent, and the game was STILL so unfinished that they either had to launch, or kill it entirely? Sounds like bad planning, and poor management to me.

WoW was the most expensive, then came Vanguard.

the problem Vanguard is seeing though, is that they are not making money.  They are a level below WoW in expens. but a hundreds levels below wow in recieving support (subscribers)

I really doubt this is about money issues for final stages of development. I believe with the fact that SoE provided financial support will give them a big involvement. example release date. If you put in millions of dollars and it wasnt completed by the dead line you set for them, as a business/manufacturer management, you too will decided to drop them because they cant do the job.

Tho it does have something to do with money.

SoE pull this stunt before World of Warcraft came out. They release EQ2 before WoW to grab some subscribers, cause they know if everyone is playing WoW no one would be playing EQ2.

The same with Vanguard. They know lots of people stop playing WoW and was waiting for burning crusades.  What do MMOers do while they not playing the games. Getting into the hype of new games. Vanguard had a lot hype about the game so SoE pushed the publications to grab subscribers before everyone re-subscribe to WoW for burning crusades. Everyone is back in WoW very little will be subscribed to Vanguard.

any game with SoE support will suck. Sony  just plain sucks. Even in the Console wars. Nintendo = master of party games. XBOX = master of online gaming. PS= Final Fantasy. UMD? sony is good at using there own tech, but they never put a umd player in vaio's

    Remember betamax? md what? bluwhat?

VHS owned betamax, ipod owned md players, hd-dvd will take over bluray.  The bluray player is already to expensive to buy, the general public cant afford a $1000 player.  and there 80 dollar disc for movies. Hopefully the ps3 will make use of bluray.

I am sorry, but when there whole closed beta of players not even being able to play because the specs were so high should give you the reason to turn around and dont look back at the game.

Let's take that fact and ask one question. What is the likelihood of making that money back releasing the game the way they did (performance, bugs etc.)? They are gambling on getting a dedicated playerbase that will stick with them while they finish polishing and adding content. Can they pull it off? Who knows? Five years ago they might have easily gotten away with it but with the deluge of MMO's out or coming out they only have themselves to blame if they can't pull it off.

Sorry no need to explain or vote for any thing the facts speek for them selves....

"As co-publisher of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Sigil assumes greater control of marketing and PR, while maintaining responsibility for game development, community relations, media relations, customer support, and quality assurance. Under the terms of the agreement,SOE will provide distribution, marketing, hosting and back-end support -- including billing and technical support -- for the game . Additionally, SOE is tentatively planning on adding Vanguard, upon its release,to SOE’s Station Access™ subscription plan. Station Access allows players to enjoy all of SOE’s MMO titles for one low monthly price."

SOE part i made bold .From http://www.sigilgames.com/sonypressrelease.html

SOE, at our request, has sent some designers and artists up our way to make Vanguard even better. That's it. We appreciate it very much, and they are working just like Sigil people are working under Sigil's schedule and management. I hope there are no conspiracy theories about this. It's as simple as that.

We also hired a beta tester too. The more help the better.

    thanks all,

Either that or the devs were too busy playing WoW during paid time.

Hell i listened to a interview with Jeff Butler i think is his name. And he stated he had more lvl 60's then fingers on his hands.
