I wasn't really sure exactly what to make of the features list for The Buried Sea. How do they work in practice? What are the new zones like? Is it fun, in your opinion? Any major changes to gameplay?

Wow, SOE kicked out another EQ expansion. BS might be out in a new record time too after the SS expansion. Seems SOE with the digital only expansions are making more frequent expansions with less content. Oh well, if the veteran EQers are willing to put up with it, good luck to them. I wonder what the next combination package will be titled after that Titanium, Adamantium or something. For EQ's up & coming 8th anniversary I'm sure the marketing Gnomes at SOE will devise something, they miss few tricks to make more $. EQ used to be a really fun game till SOE directed it on a path where the casual gamer would only be able to progress up to a certain point. Indirectly I bet SOE actually helped that WoW by doing so. I bet the new BS expansion doesn't offer as much as previous expansions, heck even the SOE EQ web site doesn't offer many details & some of the BS screen shots are from other expansions.
So, like the OP asked, has anyone tried the expansion yet? I'm thinking of getting it and would like some feedback on it.

I beleive EQ has as many, if not more, subscribers than vanguard currently does.
SoE wouldnt be wasting money making expansions if there were hardly any players to buy them (as can be seen with SWG)
neschria,
If your familiar with Everquest and the track the Dev's have taken over the last 3 years, then TBS is pretty much on par with what you'd expect.
So far there have been two major patches to the expansion. Several of the 60 instances they brought in have been shown to be completely unusable. By unusuable I mean, you zone in, and are instantly killed with no chance to respond, and this with fully outfitted, fully aa'd level 75 characters.
The advertsied "ship to ship" content isn't really what you think about by that term. There's no spray of water, no tacking for best advantage, no hurling of magics across the oceans deapths, no nail biting chase and the tense moments before closing in. It's more like, zone in, your on a boat that is attached to another boat via a gang plank, now go fight.
If your already in a major raiding guild, or raiding guild alliance, then the new guild banner/fellowship is good as it further reduces the need to travel from point a to point b. This does have the side effect that Everquest is even less immersive as a "world".
Lastly, as far as bug fixes, no, travel by boat still isn't a reality, this is two expansions in a row where SOE has stated they have "fixed" the five year old bugs with boat travel and it's failed to come to pass.
In short, it's pretty much turning out to be a normal SOE release. If your addicted to SOE games to the point of fandom, you'll love it. If you've played enough other games, or just generally have a higher sense of self interest you probably won't.
Personally I got the expansion as a gift as a result that I have friends that still don't understand I don't actively play the game anymore as anything other than a diversion. /shrug
Anyway, if you decide to buy it. Just do so with open eyes. SOE's marketing may be great, but the facts are usually somewhat less than stellar.
Elemer.

Gnomexxx, if you still play & enjoy EQ then don't wait for a player's review. Trust SOE & how the BS expansion is described on the official web site & purchase the digital download. It's a pretty simple decision to make for current EQers. So Gnomexxx, rant away, decide upon your own merit & purchase it, or just complain as well.
Anyways, I've read on the forums how people are instantly dying while zoning over, because mobs are hitting for 2500 before you even load That's really the only review I've even read over there, so doesn't sound like I will be buying that, either.
Remember people, don't feed this troll.
As for TBS, it has the best group gear in ages, and weapons are finally being where they should be for the group game. The missions are diverse and difficulty is fresh. COuld use some work on mission entrances, couple missions seem to have see invis wandering past the entrances to them. Other than, pretty fun. Also, no more "Creators."
And Brostyn... raid gear is only twice as powerful as group gear now. All you have to do is a bunch of missions for a month (and that's taking your sweet time) to be in the best group gear, it takes months upon months until you're outfit in full up-to-date raid gear. So I fail to see the argument for group gear being better than it already is.
