  You get to see the various items on you,but they need to work on the details imo.
  
  I don't think you can see the jewelry though.
  
  
  
  You also have an option to turn off Cloak,Helmet and boots in options if you don't want those to show on screen.
  
  
  
  There is a dressingroom WoW style so you can see how the things will look on you before buying them from shop.

  Is the equipment the same as DDO where you only see the chest piece and helmet or do you get to see all the different items like gloves and boots individually on your character??

  Nope!  Not like DDO at all

  Each piece is equipped separately.  Helm, Shoulders, Gloves, Leggings, Boots, Capes and so on.... there's also necklace, bracelet and ring slots too.   All pieces have their own look when you equip them... change the boots and they change graphically.
