Voice Overs

tharkthark Member UncommonPosts: 1,188

Quick question..Has the dialogs in game Voice overs ?

If not, are they planned for retail ?

And by dialog voice over I dont mean  Hi , Hello and Good bye etc ..I mean full voice overed characthers like EQ2 has..

After I have been playing EQ2 for 2 years now I see how much this adds to immersion in a gameworld...

Without voice overs i doubt I will ever play Lord of the Rings Online

You know, voice overs in MMOs are one of those things that I really wish they would do more of. Its like the only game genre that doesn't do it as a standard. Hell even my kids "Winnie the Pooh" game is fully voiced over. In fact every game I play whether its shooter/RTS/RPG are all voiced over.

You would think with buying the box AND a monthly fee they could at least do that. That is one of the things I really liked about EQII. Its adds a level of quality and immersion many MMOs are outright missing. I don't know if they are going to add them in LotRs but so far there are only a few parts where the narrator kicks in during the storyline quest. All the NPC's just greet you with hellos or random lines that really don't fit the text many times...... Just like WoW lol.......(sorry, that slipped, couldn't resist...bad me lol)

    Whats up with that?

More voice overs in MMO's!!!! I'm paying a g*d damn monthly fee, for Petes sake, invest in a few voice actors!

They added some more voices/responds to the NPC's last patch but it's nothing like voice overs like Everquest II uses.

    FAR from it.

For each voice overed sentence there is in lorto beta there is 99 more in EQ II.

If you demand voice overs in a game before you will buy it,then look elsewhere.

lotro sucks big time when it comes to comparing EQ II Vs LOTRO doing voice overs.

Other than that i think you as an EQ II player would love this game.

Voiceovers are nearly a must for me anymore. The immersion level they can create is just amazing. EQ2 spoiled me. I think the next gen MMO's really need to focus on some high quality voice acting for everything.

EQ2 did it very well also having optional download soundpacks. For the people who didn't want to have to download massive packs, they didn't need to.

Just a few at the beginning of large instances, including the beginning one.  I think they've talked about adding more, but if so, it would be at similar moments of "drama" where some cinematic sequence plays out.

I don't mind them in that setting.  I find the omnipresent narrative voice in DDO, for instance, to be very intrusive.

Some small dialogues were added for npcs, with varying degrees of success.  A few voices are pretty grating and whiny.  I expect they will fix those.

Been playing since Phase 1 of Closed Beta.

Back then there were no voices at all

Now most NPC's have a brief blurb they say when you first click them and there are voice-overs for several quest intro's.  More and more have been added as time goes by and it's one of the most requested features by the beta players so I expect Turbine will continue to slowly add more to the game.

Remember when EQ2 was in beta there were only a few voice overs as well.  They've slowly increased them over time there as well.  I doubt LOTRO will ever have as MANY voice overs as EQ2 but to me that's a good thing.  EQ2 has way too many in some cases.  LOTR is still a bit sparse but it gets better every patch.

Hopefully eventually all the quests will have voice-overs for the quest text.  Then again the quest text in LOTRO is a LOT more detailed than for most EQ2 quests :)
