Looking for a EQ1 like game plz help

Ok here the deal I use to play EQ1 back in the day and it was the best game i ever played. However that was so many years ago well now i would get back into it however there are so many new expansion and everyone is so far ahead of me. If they would make a new server so everyone had to start back at lvl 1 I would jump all over that. So what I am trying to say is I need help finding a new game thats like EQ1. I  looked at wow and didnt like it. it looks to cartoon.  I also played vanguard however its just to easy. Once u kill something your life/mana is back to 100% in a sec whats up with that it doesnt make u work for things.

I looked at EQ2(never played) however what i am thinking is kind of the samething with EQ1 that its been out for along time and everyone is so far ahead and all the expansions i would have to buy right off the bat.

So if u can think of a game that might work for me(something like EQ1 was back in the day) it would be a big help.

Thanks

Not too long ago SOE created two progression servers for EQ.  The purpose of these is basically what you're asking for.  Now these servers have been out for awhile and as different guilds ingame complete certain quests and such, expansions become unlocked.  Now from what I know both servers are right around the LDON expansion (I'm not sure about this though) which is right around the middle of expansions that they have released.  Anyway, that's around when I quit that game anyway.

Now I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but I distinctly remember the people at SOE saying that if their progression servers become a hit (which from what I've heard, they are) then they will release a couple more similiar servers.  I would keep an eye out for that if I were you.  Now this is SOE, and many people on this board know not to believe anything they say.  But just in case, there's an option for you.

As for games that are similiar to EQ, there are many.  I assume when you say that you want a game like EQ, that you want one with similiar gameplay?  EQ2 is a fairly decent game.  If your computer can handle it, the graphics can really blow you away.  Other than that, I would suggest looking into some games like DAoC, and possibly Guild Wars.  If those don't suit you, there are tons of games that have been called Everquest Clones.  This term usually used as an insult might help you find your next game XD.

EverQuest's style will never be re-created, ever.

    There is minions of mirth.

It has a nostaligic EQ1 feel to the game.

To be fair i loved EQ, but i cant stand Vanguard. The game was mind numbingly boring to me, so just because you liked EQ doesnt mean you will like vanguard.

If only i could find a troll with a tin foil hat. =(

EQ's style has already been re-created and for better or worse stripped of things that slow you down.

It's quite popular, in fact 8 million subs popular.

For better or for worse *wink*

Vanguard is the closest thing to what you want. It captures the same magic EQ1 had, it's fresh, and even made by the same guy.

You can't say it's too easy at such a low level. The game takes a sharp upturn in difficulty around 15-20. Levels 1-10 is meant to be easy, like an extended tutorial.

The magic of bugs and no content.

There are a lot of stupid people out there who simply parrot what they've heard repeated on forums, without even playing the game. So take what the haters say with a grain of salt.

Vanguard's strongest asset right now is content. Quality quests, and lots of them. Tons to explore. Lots of classes that are all unique. Feature rich crafting and a player economy. Diplomacy. Stuff like boats, houses, and mounts.

Vanguard has more content now than some MMORPGs have after years.

I haven't even noticed the bugs, just a few minor ones here and there. Nothing game stopping.

Some of u are not getting it. I said that i have played vanguard and i dont care for it. thats fine if you do. what i am asking for is a game like EQ1. NOT vanguard. its not like EQ1 and i didnt care for it so plz stop making post about vanguard. its sad because it looks like i missed my shot at going back to EQ1 when they made the new servers just like i wanted however at the time i didnt know and now that i am back into mmo i am to late unless they make a new one or unless there is a new game out there that is very close to EQ.

EQ1 emm let me think a Sec........

well first off you will never find it.

why you may ask is simple.... One, when EQ was made we the players had no ideas yet about how to rune fun, like telling people to STFU. nooo we would rather give items to people and become friends no matter what part of the world we came from. but that was then and this is now. as you can see time has Passed and we the players now have become more aware of how  to make people give item away other than by trade if you know what i mean and if you do not its called Hacking it's something some consider free trade.what the heck we still play to have fun ..... do we?

    Good Luck on your Quest.

I'll be as clear as possible. You cannot get the same EQ1 feeling back from any game. Period.

EQ1 for many people(sounds to me like you're in this boat)was the first MMORPG they played. They were shown a new world they hadent expericenced before and it was awesome. I had played Asheron's Call before EQ so AC is actually were I found that first love for  mmo feeling. But EQ i started also not too long after AC and all in all EQ was the best mmo i'd ever played. Still is to this day.

Now I know this is just one mans opinion. But after playing DaoC,FFXI,AC(again),CoH/CoV,GW,EQ2,AO,EVE and although they are free - FlyFF,RYL,Rappelz,KO and a few others, I am assured the EQ1 feeling is gone. If you played EQ1 especially if you played with the old character models(Ogre buttcrack anyone?) then thats the feeling you always hope to get back but its impossible.

That game opened peoples eye to the industry and nothing will bring that back. You arent a noob anymore. You arent seeing anything new. Im not saying there is nothing innovative about games nowadays. Im just saying you're not seeing anything you havent seen before. You have played a MMORPG. The only way you can get it all back is to rewind time. You have to play it for the first time to get the feeling you are looking for.

For anyone that played Asheron's call long ago. Before level 7 spells. Before Arwic died. Old Arwic still reigned supreme as trade central and the subway wasnt even a hang out yet. 20,30,40 people in the lin citadel with zero buffs and mostly in robes, the lugians would spawn and jump down on the pack and it was pure chaos and war. All these people from all over the world in this citadel battling these lugians. I had never seen such a thing. And i never will again. I can have 1000 people in the same place hunting the same mobs and it wouldnt even come close to the feeling of those 20,30,40...

Whilst you can never recapture that feeling of your first MMO, VanGuard is by far the closest I've felt to my first experiences with UO and then EQ1. The release is a little rushed and there are some bugs, but all of my guild is playing fine without any major problems on a wide variety of machines, few of them current, let alone bleeding edge. So people who may claim it's unplayable either had an unfortunate experience, have something wrong with their hardware or have an agenda.

If you want the sort of game you can adventure semi-afk, chatting on the phone and watching a movie at the same time whilst doing  in game what's considered the harder dungeons of the game, it probably won't be for you. If you like great character & group dynamics and are prepared to explore a big world rather than be lead by the hand, from room to room of streamlined level appropriate 15minute quests, you'll really like it.

    I agree 1000000% BulletLoco.

It is really hard to play a game now like we once did.
