So basically what you have here is just another in a long list of quest based, level based, item-centric games. Correct me if i"m wrong but that pretty much sums this puppy up. What your supposed to do is PVP for blood money, which you then use to buy, oh I dunno, maybe seige weapons or forts/towers or really uber gear or something of that ilk. Of course heaven forbid that anything can actually be looted from a fallen foe, because you wouldn't want to risk any of your precious personal goodies.
In a nutshell, you pretty much fight to get blood money, which will get you the be all end all of cool stuff. To that end, the only way to actually win a fight will be the old forced grouping of monster sized guilds. I mean who in their right mind could think they can win a battle against massive odds. So now ya pretty much wait the standard four hours to get your eightseven man guild together, then you go out to fight the exquisite lag infested EPIC BATTLE. Oh I can hardly friggin wait.
Don't bother trying to form a small guild because you'll just get swamped by the massive might of the behemoth guilds. Don't forget that all the good loot is going to be in the open pvp lands. When they say that smaller guilds can own and defend towers instead of forts or cities in these resource rich lands, I say HA. Just let me know how that works out for you, as you see the dust cloud kicked up from sixtyfour mounted enemies. Oh yea that tower's a keeper alright, kiss that blood money goodbye. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go out with three or four friends in the good lands with the cool stuff and not worry about being destroyed by a galactic sized guild, or worse yet the lag monster.
You know what I say, keep the damn epic battles and bar brawls or king of the hill and capture the flag, save all that crap for someone who gives a flying damn. You know what I want, I want your stuff, thats right when I kill you or you kill me you get the stuff, all of it, plain and simple. For all you people that are going to whinny about losing your axe of screaming monkey whoop-ass that you spent sooo much time getting, don't worry about it, soon there will be so many of them kickin around all you have to do is kill anyone and you'll have your choice of weapons. Besides, since I'm sure you'll be able to repair weapons and armor an infinte number of times it's not like they'll ever wear out.
I'm a little tired of fed-ex quests, a quest should be just that, plus you should get something at the end of it but not experience, that you should you get while completing the quest. Epic battles and king of the hill and all that type of pvp sound good in theory, but in practice it's just forced grouping with a bunch of people you wouldn't normally spit on if they were on fire, but now your forced to be their buddies, puke. It seems as if every new mmorpg that comes out is forcing larger and larger groups, as if that makes a band of merry travelers. In closing I'll qoute my title, "I'm sorry but I'm just not seeing it!"

Blood money is primarily used to buy pvp feats as there are 20 pvp levels.
If your smallish guild is not only concerned with pvp there are pve sieges outside of the borderlands. Also for the small guilds there will be guild alliances and you will be able to hire pc mercinaries to defend your Borderlands clips.
I really dont have the itme to get into every point right now, but i have one question for you. How do you know how bad the questing system is considering the game wont be out for nine months.
Yea it's pretty obvious you don't, lol, I mean honestly it sounds like scanned over half of the blood money highlight and came here to rant some nonsence.
At least read the FAQ on a game before saying how horrible it is...
Try better
I HATE WOW, lets start with that, as for warhammer HAHAHAHA, get real that game is on the I won't play it list, it's as you say the same damn game. I am really not trying to troll at all. I've read quite a bit about this game, but after beta testing vanguard and lotro, well they all have the same feel as basically every game thats come out in the past three years.
If you have any links for me to go to by all means lay them down. The only mmorpg that I'm presently playing is UO, thats right the first mmorpg is as far as I can tell still the best, but after nine years of playing, with a few breaks playing eve for a bit and swg for about a year and a half when it first came out. I did play WOW for about two months, (a little bile came back up my throat just admitting that). I kept trying to figure out what the hell everyone liked about it and I just cant figure it out.
Well the point is I'm back playing UO its great and all but after nine years I'm looking for a replacement game. Keep in mind I satrted playing UO when I was in my early thirties, so do the math I'm not a kid so I don't want some simplistic kiddie game. If you can give me some good links or better yet save me research and just tell me the good points that I'm missing I'd appreciate it.
My feelings about AoC are about the same as havoc's. The impression I get is a little different but the end conclusion is about the same. These mmorpgs are starting to feel like MASH reruns. How many years have they been playing those same damn reruns? But now imagine that MASH reruns were all that was ever on TV...oh except for some low budget stuff on PBS.
How many years do we have to keep seeing the same game made and remade, over and over again.
i really fail to see how this game is "just like every other one" ive seen videos and read aobut it and it seems really different
its all twitch based combat, and since most MMO's are all aobut combat that sets it apart a lot
levels arent supposed to make a huge difference (a skilled level 20 will have a chance against a mediocre level 80)
the first twenty levels are offline (never heard about that before)
massive seige warfare with siege weapons
player made cities get attacked by NPC cities, but you can raid the NPC cities before they attack too
low level players can group with high level players and will be autoleveled to around the same level as the high level players
PVE and PVP are kept relatvely seperate, being good at one doesnt mean being good at the other
you talk to NPCs much like you do in oblivion
NPCs actually have schedules and AI, i.e. yours and others actions affect them
these are just a few of the examples, but although i could be mistaken as the game isnt out yet obviously, from all ive heard it seems as though this game will not be " just like everything else out right now"
I've started to hang around and post on AoC forums. Some good discussions there, mostly because people arent setteling but the debates there are more realistic then fanboy vs outsiders. There's some things they're not planning to do yet which I'd like to see but maybe they'l add some things later on, maybe not. Some aspects of the game could quite easily be a huge mess in waiting, but atleast they're going for it.
Simply put, as I posted on their forums, the only thing I would like added are a few abilities and animations for shields, and maybe some fighting over territory so sides can gain some actual ground instead of items and currency. It's not going to be my dream game of course, doubt any game will be. Infact, theres not alot about the game that would fill out my personal list of what I want in a game, but it's grabbing my interest anyway and since there's really no other games comming out that will suit me I'll keep reading up on this one and hopefully get an early start on it.
Never give up and never surrender!
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Settle, from what I read Funcom is trying to do the right thing, weather they pull it off or not is another question. Check out the link below you might like the idea.

Worst scenario you buy the game play for 10-15 hours in single player mode and you say, I hate the game. I'm personally looking forward to AoC and it already seems different then the cartoonish wow and warhammer. AoC should have an older crowd, not necessary more mature. But that's part of the charm playing mmo. Some playings are just born A-holes and some are a joy to group with.
If they get their combat system right I might give it a try, but I can't see myself PVP alot because right now it really looks to me like the Uberguilds will be dominating everything. On the other hand there's Warhammer which looks to me like Mythic will be taking their RVR concept to a whole new level. I always loved DAoC so i'll give Warhammer a try aswell. What I'm really sick of is people saying is "But it looks like WoW" - of course it does since Blizzard stole the concept for the original Warcraft Game from Warhammer.

You do know that twitch combat means that a game makes deciding factors based on the player's reactions? It doesn't matter if you use a mouse, joystick or keyboard, its still twitch based. You have to physically initiate every attack, you have to have a very good internet connection in order to get the best results for a reactionary game style.

I'm plan on at least trying the game because it will offer different and more diverse content then the previous MMO grinds. As for looting player corpses, what exactly is so innovative and immersive about that? To each his own, but that sounds more like ganking 2.0. I fail to see where going around ganking and stealing is exciting. That would be the most repetitive, boring game ever. It would consist of this: run dungeon, get uber drops > get ganked and loose loot > go back to dungeon get uber drops > get ganked and loose loot > repeat these steps till it becomes mind numbingly boring. Even if your'e king of PvP and steal everyone's loot what exactly is fun about that? Even WoW's super boring loot grind sounds more fun than player corpse looting. AoC developers are considering all the points the OP made I hope because a few super guilds could in theory, I think, dominate the game's economy and borderlands' territory and resources which would alienate the casuals who woulnd't have a chance to compete against that. But the game is several months away from release and I hope the developers balance all aspects of the game and I for one will at least try it.
To me it feels a bit early to be judging what the gameplay will be like. I personally am hoping for a pleasant surprise.
