given vanguards problems should it be made free to play ?????

given vanguards obvious problems with many people reporting that they feel the game has been released when its nowhere near finnished . should it they do what archlord did and make it free to play ?????? (even in the short term until the games issues are more resolved than at present) . could such an action save vanguard by keeping people playing ??? opinions???

Well i do think that we shouldn't have to pay(and I don't plan to), they already scammed because we all already bought the game for $50 or $100(thank god I didn't buy the collectors edit.). But it probably won't be possible because they stated that they ran out of money, so unless they can live off of the revenue that they made off of only the games and not monthly dues I don't think it will ever happen. Damn I should have been smart and spammed around for a buddy key and saved $50...o well

Thats a tough one. While I would certainly like to be able to play for free, I also realise that with free play there is little income for devs to work with. No income, no extra programmers to fix the game, to add new stuff. Thats why all those free games never have rich content and usualy rely on repeatable grind to keep players playing.

What would benefit Vanguard players, is a free month or two. A sort of "thank you and sorry for releasing too soon" gesture. But i doubt they will do anything like that at this stage. The only reason i can think of to  release vanguard prematurely is money problems, and how can they earn money if they dont sell the game?

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Compared to WoW and EQ2, Vanguard does not have hardly any bugs upon release.   Compared to CoH and CoV, It was a bit rushed.

Overall, all MMORPG are released to early, but funding is always a serious issue.  I am surprized that is not more obvious to people.  The investers start wanting a return for their dollar.  MMORPG's are far more expensive to produce than single player games.

Currently, most of my friends who play Vanguard (30+ people) are not having serious graphics problems with any card 7000 series or better.  In some cases they had to tweak the graphics to improve frame rates.  The graphics where not necessarily ment to be maxed out yet, even on the best cards.  I believe they are thinking to the future on hardware.  But that hardly matters, the graphics of Vanguard are way better on their lowest setting than most of the other MMORPG's, unless you prefer cartoons of course.  The water under balanced settings is not too impressive, but Balanced or above it is awesome.

Most of the "Lag" people are complaining about is actually "zoning".  The game is a hybrid streaming/zoning game.  But unlike EQ2, the zones are small little doors from one "room" to another.  "zoning" can be annoying, but on most people's machines it does not take but a couple seconds.

The only serious bug my friends and I have been getting, are the grouping ang guild bugs, but those can be worked around.

I just had to press 'go play wow'. I've never made that comment before. You get the first month free. If you want a decent game you have to play for it. To say that vg is anything like and free mmo is bs.

Lol @ all the whiners here.

Vanguard is the best game since EQ imo...the odd bug at launch is expected.

I'd have to queue to get into my server (with all the crashes and random boots out to queue again) for half of my playtime for weeks for VG to not be a better release than WoW. So VG's already a much, much, better rollout for 1 comparison.

To simply put, the answer would be NO it should not be free to play, that would go against the whole reason why they had to release it.  If they were going to release then change it to free to play, they may have well stayed in beta.  BUT as have been said before they had to release vanguard due to financial restraints.

Free? I'd say no simply because it'd certainly sink the game entirely.

But that isn't to say that some 'free MMOs' like Guild Wars don't edge out Vanguard in quite a few categories.

MMOs tend to lessen their costs and entrance barriers over time. And those changes pretty much tick down the life of an MMO. The retail boxes get less expensive, expansions retail digital only and comes out in multitudes, free trials start popping up in limited quantities, then they're everywhere, "please come back and play" e-mails are sent out with free subscription times...so on and so on.

So starting off with 'free' even for a limited amount of time would probably sink Vanguard. So too would offering free trial time so soon. What they could do though as add up all the days systematic errors have made the game too buggy for a majority to play, (like the recent item disappearance bugs), and add on free days to folks accounts.

WoW did this a lot its first few months, and while it probably did very little for it's subscription retention and longevity in success, it certainly didn't harm it.

Hell yes it should be free...

at least until all the nasty bugs are gone...

I don't need to go into detail... it's been flamed 24x7 since pre-release

personally i agree jab . free to play (at least for a while)will keep interest in it . there is very little good will towards this game at the moment . it would be a gamble but its one it think would eventually pay off . this games already failed what do they have to lose ? within the next two months theres going to be more people cancelling there subs than buying the game to see what its like . there are redeaming aspect to this game and it could survive if soe do the smart thing now . to keep it as pay to play is essentially a bad marketing stratergy as it stands . you need to keep people interested in the product .this wont be the wow killer but it could find  a niche market . and thats markets not the few of you who are willing to fund its devlopment , who are more than vocal in these forums. i get the feeling the more you defend it the more you are trying to convince yourselves you ve not wasted your money . its a bit like a gambler thinking his luck will change if he keeps rolling the dice . its a little like buying a new piece of tech and finding its not workng that well but paying the people who manufacture it each month in the hope they ll put it right ......Barnum was right there really is a sucker born every minuite

Unfortunately I knew it was going to end up like this when I was beta testing in early January and they set a Jan 30 release date.

I really hope it lasts for 6 months so they can fix the problems many were experiencing toward the end of beta.

This game had great potential  - but I am not gonna spend money on it month after month hoping for better and be SWG'd again.

Free to play may be the only way to save this sinking ship.
