Ok, so I have been under a rock and missed this going english/beta...I've been busy watching the launch of Vanguard, its sort of like watching an express train drive over a cliff in slow motion....you feel real bad but can't stop watching lol.

So is there an NDA on this? I see many people speaking pretty openly about the game. If its ok, someone shed some light on the game for me

I know you get 3 characters at a time, but thats about it really. So I have all the basic questions Assuming there is no NDA...

  • whats the quest system like? Are the quest just basic "kill task"? I hate kill task. I'm not playing any MMOs right now mainly for that reason. I tired of lazy devs and their mindless f**king chores. Is their any effort in engaging/quality and immersive quest or is it the standard "kill 10 rats"?
  • levels/class or skill based?
  • How is the grind? I know its in all MMOs but how is it here? I'm not going to find mystelf standing outside the town gat kill 10 rats like in Vanguard or__(insert game name)___?
  • What is the world like? OK, its the "new world" or colony or something... sounds interesting
  • group focused? Soloing with your 3 man group? Is there a good balance, I like grouping but I like to be able to solo when I don't have that much time to play.
  • raiding or item focused?
  • how is it overall compared to the standard garbage out there?

The trailer here looks pretty damn good, but don't they all?

Quest system: The quest system is a mixed bag really. Yes, there are go kill "XX" quests and go find "XX" quest system. Some take you to an out field, others let you explore a dungeon. But these aren't the only quests though, There are "mission" quests, of which you have to fufill an objective, or an NPC fight. You can see these as boss fights, except you will fight against NPC's you will find in town, such as a fight with the local blacksmith. Those last two I mentioned are instanced quests,. and this is where the Multi Character Control really shows what its capable of.

For example, one of your first mission quests will be given to you by a boy who's friend has been wounded in a newfound dungeon. You will have to protect the wounded girl for 5 minutes, and in front of you are 3 hallways.  The most tactical thing to do would be to switch to "individual mode". This means that you control each characters seperatly, sort of like a Real Time Strategy game, and you place each character at a hallway. Ofcourse this quest is very simple as its one of your first.

Other mission quests require more tactic. At one point you can challenge the blacksmith to a duel, and this guy is really powerful, He uses a two handed sword, which means his attacks will be area of effect. In normal MMORPG's, you will just rush in on him and attack till he is dead. In Granado Espada, you have to be a bit more tactical. In here, you will have to split up your group so he will go only after one of them, preferably the scout, because he can heal himself, while the others kill him. Your constantly moving diffrent characters around to keep him distracted. In another NPC fight, the NPC will move very quickly and has placed tons of traps on the ground. you will have to navigate through these traps to get to him. A fighter can get close to him and knock him down, if you don't have a fighter, you will have to fight him from a distance, which is tricky because he will rush into you every now and then and kick down one of your characters.

It is level/class based, but with a twist. In games like Lineage 2 and Ragnarok Online, you use upgraded classes to specialize your characters or to further develop it or to make it good in one area. such as the Dark Avenger in L2 has advanced tanking techniques, but he will never be able to be a damage dealer. Granado Espada does things very diffrent with something called a stance system. With stance, you can use diffrent fighting style with diffrent weapons. For example, equiping a two handed sword will activate one of the two handed stances. The more you use the two handed sword, and thus the stance, the more experience that stance gets, and it will level up. You will be able to learn new skills and upgrade old ones as your stance levels up, and it will give you more bonuses. there are a tons of diffrent stances, and your never stuck to just one, you can use as many as you like.

the grind is pretty long, but most people find the combat to be a lot of fun, so most people don't even notice it.

The world is set in a 17th century european setting of the discovery of the new world. So no plated bikini's, but long dresses and fancy clothing. There really is a ton of detail in the world, and the world is absolutely beautiful, which is also because of the stunning graphics of the game. it certainly captures the 17th century really well, and its a breath of fresh air. Also pretty much every computer will be able to run Granado Espada. I can run the game on full settings on this computer. to compare, I couldn't even run Vanguard on lowest settings.

Its not group focused, the game is very solo friendly, but it doesn't punish you for grouping either. grouping is done quite well, each person controlls up to 3 characters. If your in a group, your scout will also automaticly heal & buff the other groups characters. the AI is done quite well.

To my knowledge, there are no raid bosses in GE, aside from the PVP raid colony wars, which can be slightly compared to L2's castle sieges, but its diffrent in its own way.

The game is absolutely amazing and bring most other MMORPG's to shame. Its plays good, it looks good, it sounds good, its really a very, very high quality game. It spend 3 years in the making, over 56$ Million dollar was put into the game, and it was created by Hakkyu Kim, which is one of the most famous korean developers.

Thanks GL, well did the survey for the closed beta today, hopefully I get in

It definately looks worth a look. The main thing that I have issues with in MMOs is mindless grind (L2 did jade me in that respect although I still love the game) and the silly kill task everyone in MMO land thinks is content.
