EDIT: Disclaimer : My whole text is sarcastic, compiled of mostly all the silly accusations ans statements that some diehard fans of this game came up with.
In the beginning there was WoW.... It was a care-bear game, much for wussies, not the real hardcore player's game. It recruited an 8 million strong evil army of 12 year old kids, a formidable force, but nothing compared to what our heroman, THE MAN, BMQ was secretly brewing. Yes! VG, the true hardcore game, a real man's game was in the making!!!
Then there was VG, the new kid on the block as some put it, the messiah of MMOs. All was going well for VG, not only was it the best concept ever to arise, it was also the pinnacle of polish. In no less than 2 weeks it mustered and army of 300k subscribers (no, not characters! subs!) to hold off the brutal tyrany of WoW. The battleground where the epic struggle was to unfold is .... *battle drums* ... MMORPG.COM.
The evil WoW army was terrified, the creators of WoW were shaken in fear, for this VG was a true threat, oh yeah, could take away ALL 8 million subscriptions. So in their terrified state of mind, the evil geniuses of WoW came up with the .... *battle drum* ... conspiracy! They were to spread lies about the messiah MMO, they were to say horrible things, like "VG is bugged", "VG is unfinished", "VG has really bad performance" or like *gulp* "Vanguard is boring" ... what they did, was nothing short of blasphemy! And in the greatest hour of darkness, the evil army has risen to create phoney mmorpg.com accounts, to rate VG all 1s.
The ethical and brave VG community stood like true heroes in the fight, armed with best of arguments, such as "eeek! go back to WoW *cry* ", they refused to create phoney accounts, they knew the truth must prevail.. but they have lost the first battle... mmorpg.com has fallen! No longer is VG among the top mmos on the front page! Victims, aren't they all, to the cruelty of the evil kid empire.
But the WAR carries on with momentum, who shall be the victor? The evil empire? Or the brave men lead by legendary (and hawt) developer, BMQ? ... maybe YOU know?

Your crazy if you think it has 300k subs. Vanguard is nothing but a small cult.
Your crazy if you think it has 300k subs. Vanguard is nothing but a small cult. Which is fine by me!
I actually prefer to play with people that like the game...

Last semi-official word a couple of days ago was that it was "well over 100K" - which to means probably in the 120-140K range.
Btw 8 million looks like this: 100k + 100k + 100k + 100k + 100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k +100k + 100k + 100k + 100k
Minister of Vanboism
they have sold 100k boxes
they have zero subscriptions as of yet
Your crazy if you think it has 300k subs. Vanguard is nothing but a small cult. Well, looks like the lack of smileys makes it a hard text to properly comprehend )

Ah!!
i'll do the same. Thanks for the reminder.

you are using your first "free" 30 days
unless you have some sort of warped time machine
as with most online games (well, except maybe EVE) no true subscription numbers will be given out - and certainly not ones that haven't occured yet
Why is there such a "battle" going on between V:SoH fankids and WoW fankids? If a game is good enough it will atract people to play it. And after reading a few posts about "heads being where you shoulder used to be" and "maces/staffs where you eye used to be" (pretty hilarious actually ) You can't really say it's perfect is it, but what game is?
WoW could have so called 'carebears' (i must be blind never seen em, is there a guild like that maybe?) Ow well, maybe you are trying to be funy or something, your not..
You sound like those religious people everything but their way is bad :P There must be alot of demons in your world then.
that is a good way to keep the subscribers numbers up
Right now, Vanguard's 'subscribers' are as high as a retention percentage as it's ever going to get, since all it has taken is buying the box and using your free month. The kind of people who would not be playing Vanguard and own the box is those who bought it for some reason and it's just laying around.
Once the recurring fees start up though, there's going to be a fall out on that early announced '100k'. Especially since Sigil has provided no 'customer' or 'subscriber' definition the way Blizzard does in it's press releases:
"World of Warcraft's Customer Definition
World of Warcraft customers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or purchased a prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the installation box bundled with one free month access. Internet Game Room players that have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as customers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired pre-paid cards. Customers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules."
In comparison, right now Vanguard is more than likely including 'free promotional subscriptions' a-la all the trial keys people have been begging for on these forums for weeks. And it hasn't had a chance to count any expired or cancelled subscriptions. I doubt Sigil will ever even vouch to shave their numbers down like Blizzard does in order to keep things legit.
So in short, do take any numbers released this early with a grain of salt, but even if it was a 100k seller...it can probably threaten EQ2 in the long run, but never WoW.
The majority of WoW's "subscribers" are in Asia. They dont pay a monthly fee. They dont subscribe. They just pay an hourly fee at an internet cafe and make as many accounts as they want and log in. Every one of these accounts that has been logged into within the last month is counted toward the 8M.
When you consider this, WoW isnt even remotely as successful as Lineage II or Scions of Fate.
Yes, it's still successful in the US but it's a joke in Asia which has a much larger marker. Scions of Fate has over 40M "subscribers" in Asia.
Vanguard isnt even out in Asia, so stop these dumbass comparisons.
Of course every PAID for account in the last 30 days is counted towards the subscription count. Because it makes you a paying customer. It's not like they're putting dimes into WoW machines, creating new accounts everytime they play, and have insta 70s. No, they purchased pre-paid gaming cards and log into their accounts tied to valid CD keys no different than you an I. Difference being; we're guaranteed a month, they're guaranteed a number of hours, we can play at home, they're playing in internet cafes. Gee, they sure do have it easy!
Also, Lineage 2 provided it's 'customer definition' after it released some crazy 14 million mark a long time ago. They defined it as 'accounts created'. I assume some of their 2-3 million mark numbers across both Lineages are a bit more legit, but companies that don't provide a clear and concise customer definition similar to Blizzard will be doubted with reason. Even if they are inflating numbers somehow, they often fall exponentially short of Blizzard's real and legit numbers.
And certainly, we can not include Asia in our comparisons, but that still leaves WoW with 3-4 million subscribers. Burning Crusades isn't even out in Asia yet, but it sold like 2 million copies first week? Compare that to Vanguard's unofficial 100k or somesuch. An expansion spanked a brand new MMO twenty times over.
That said...stop taking it as if Vanguard's been spanked six-feet deep. Of course it's being destroyed by WoW if you consider it a competition. But in actuality, if WoW never existed, then Vanguard and a lot of other MMOs would never have the numbers they do today. WoW increased the amount of players in the industry several fold, and any new MMO will continue to benefit from the smallest percentation of ex-WoW players who decide to play something else.
