Why I think this might be the game for me.

Magic. I like to play Archers, Vanguard/EQ2 seems to think that every single time I fire off an attack my arrows should be covered in flames or magic with effects going off all over my screen. I'm hoping LOTRs isn't like that (so correct me if I'm wrong), it's about me and my bow I don't want to be over the top on magic, even if some of my shots are. It's the same with Warriors in EQ2, every attack seems to set off huge amounts of magic, I'm a warrior not a mage!

Scale. Vanguard had huge areas and great views and I loved this, from the looks of it LOTRs has areas bigger than WoW.

Roleplay. Hoping to find some.

there are particle effects in the archery, here are some screenshots of NPC's practicing in Bree. I have played a hunter most of beta and don't remember any effects when my arrows hit the mob ( like the ones on the targets in this screen) just a splash of blood on occasion however there is the  blur behind the arrow. You will see the mob running toward you with arrows sticking from it's body though.

Each to their own though, there are some that do not even want to see any effect at all other than the arrow sticking from the mob. Hunters are quite the fun class by the way, I plan on a hunter alt and a minstrel main in release.

My LOTRO installation is 95% complete, and I'm itching to give it a spin.  I love me some Lord of the Rings, and I don't think this game will disappoint in that aspect, I just hope that the gameplay isn't too dull, because that seems to be one thing people are bitching about quite a bit.  But hey, trying it out for yourself is the way to go!

P.S. Jackdog, you're so nice in the LOTRO forums.  It's like you've got a second personailty.  The question is: which is the real Jackdog?

I just call em as I see em. Don't worry I have complaints about LoTRO too, not as near as many as Vanguard and they still have a month or so to tweak it in before open beta ( try berfore buy). I keep my complaints on the closed beta forums till a game releases. I never raised hell with Vanguard on the public boards till it released.

    OFFTOPIC WARNING

edit BTW and off topic but lvl 1 - 5 is super easy. If you die at those lvls go back to MMORPG school. %- 10 is a bit harder but not much. 10- 20 I tend to get in over my head occasionally. 20 on sets the pace and you can find a few real challenges. I don't agree with this design and think the early levels tend to turn a lot of people off with the easy game play. Personally I wish lvl 6 on had the same challenge as the teens upward. If you want to make a separate topic on this I would be happy to discuss.
