Enough is Enough

AvraAvra Member UncommonPosts: 100

I was on of the first to jump on the VG bandwagon. I wanted this game to be popular..but enough is enough.

The players are now playing.. I can understand there may be some bugs  still to "iron out" - unanticipated bugs, problems etc..but the game has now been in retail a month, and the bugs and problems abound...just today, I have died over 5x due to lag/computer crashing, and when I log onthere is no tombstone, my petition has been in the queue since 9am..over 10 hours. this is unacceptable.

Sure they are fixing things, but there was one patch this week, and I dont exactly see them scrambling to fix the issues. Guess they need the customer money first....

I am not a fan of WoW, and I like the challenging aspects of this game. But, every nite I log on, I find myself more frustrated and angry than having fun due to bugs, crashes.

SoE screwed me over big time on EQ 2 - do you know I STILL have a petition open waiting for a GM response since October 2006? LOL. I thought I would give this game a try, despite being now owned and operated by $oE, but this will be the last time. Sorry to SoE fanbois, this isnt trying to start a flame war, its calling SOE out on thier horrible customer service. Fix your crap, seriously.

A fan who has had enough.

When I saw SoE on the box, I said "no thanks." (And that comes from more than just reading what happened to SWG...I have professional experience dealing with Sony...trust me, just about everything Sony does is crap).

  • AvraAvra Member UncommonPosts: 100

yeah, i wont buy an SoE game again. I have had it with this company. If you ever need to deal with their customer service, god help you. At best they ignore you, at worst you get a consdescending, mildly threatening attitude.

From now on, i will buy other games, I think the future is there anyways. Sony's rep sucks.

I was in Beta and it clearly was not ready.  It was released in the blundering style of SOE.  Maybe someday they'll get people who care about quality and who realise it doesn't help the bottom line to release a piece of junk.  If you want to compete with Blizzard you have to make games like they do.  Quality above everything else.  They are frustratingly anal about it but by compairson SOE doesn't seem the least concerned.

I didn't buy the game because I wouldn't have paid at any point in Beta to play the game and it never got to a point I would have.  It was almost impossible to play because of lag the day before the Beta servers were taken offline.  So I didn't buy the miracle build crap they spouted and I'm very glad I didn't.  I wounder how long it will be before SOE forces them to redesign the game so it works even worse or before they roll out an expansion that is equal parts imcomplete content and broken content?

I have already subscribed so they have a bit more to fix it before I quit. But, quite frankly, If I were the execs at Sigil, I would be concerned at the amount of people upset at the quality of this game. ANd there are alot of games on the Horizon...After this fiasco, who is seriously going to touch another SoE product again?

Sorry you wasted $50 to buy the game.

Minor performance issues and minor bugs don't stop me from playing and enjoying the game. Nor have I come across anyone in game who is so fed up with bugs that they want to quit. Maybe you're getting hit especially hard with crashing, or maybe you just have a low threshold of tolerance.

A lot of gamers have misconceptions about how fast game development should be. They expect everything, and they expect it next week, or else they'll throw a tantrum and demand that things speed up; as though the development team has been loafing around, not even caring about the game, just to piss you off.

It's not for lack of caring, or lack of effort, or lack of listening. Development, bug squashing, and performance enhancement all simply take time. And this dev team is clearly passionately commited to the game and it's betterment, and have been running in crunch mode non-stop since a month before the game released to polish everything up.

Demanding, tantrum throwing, or even canceling your account will not make the process go any faster.

Why do you even posts stuff like this anyway? Are you just looking for others to jump in here and say "WOW I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY! I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY YOU DO." nevermind... whatever.

What really make me angry about Vanguard is the performance of the game. That is really making me consider quiting.

I got a Code 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, ATI 1300 pro with 512 MB and I can't get more than 14 fps in moderate settings! I think my machine isn't that bad to properly run a game. I can run most of the newer games with high graphics and Vanguard is the only one Im having problems.

Such posts are very necessary to warn others who are considering whether they should try the game or not. Such posts are sorely needed when the truth gets hidden by the loud clatter of little fanbois!

Minor? I'd hate to see what you'd call major.

And if you don't see people getting fed up and quitting, you aren't paying attention. Of the group of 12 I moved into retail with from beta, there are 3 left still playing- in less than a month, and mainly because despite a multitude of patches nothing is getting fixed. One of the final straws for me was that they found time to nerf the crap out  of the damage I could do, but after 10 days hadn't changed the fact that the diplomacy quest line was broken and was preventing advancement. The last week and  a half of beta showed a lot of promise, and the first 3 weeks of retail reversed it all. They messed this up horribly.I will very honestly be amazed if they retain 50% of the playerbase after the free month is over.

    EDIT: Spelling

You know what I feel bad for ya, but the fact is my guild currently has 35 people playing and I can't think of any of them complaining about game breaking bugs.  I personally have encountered ONE bug in the last week, yup one bug in a week.  I run the game on high quality with a couple settings tweaked and after the last patch I'm getting 25 to 40 fps in towns and 35 to 70 in the wilderness.  The load time at "chunks" is now around 1 second and thats it.  The game no longer stutters at random points as it did on launch day and frankly I'm having a blast.

For your case in particular I would say its the graphics card but thats simply my guess.  I see so many of these doom and gloom post but in game I rarely hear anyone complaining about this stuff.  I don't know, sometimes I wonder if the loudest complainers have even played the damn game since beta 5 but then I realize I honestly don't care.  The game can and will run well if you A. have the system to handle it and B. have the correct settings for the rig you're using.

My rig:  Opteron 185 3 gigs dual channel memory 7800gt 256 and two serial 3 gbps drives one for OS one for games AN8 32x mboard

My system is pretty decent but in no way is it bleeding edge and I can run it on high settings so to me it seems people must be doing something wrong.  Hell my second machine is  P4 3.0 ghz with 1 gig dual channel ddr2 and a 7600gt oc and my best friend runs the game on balanced settings with no hitching and gets fps above 30 basically all the time.

If you're system can't handle it that sucks but don't say the game doesn't run well for anyone because that simply isn't true.  The last patch alone added between 5 and 10 fps per sec for me which shows that performance and bugs are priority one for the developers.  I wonder if the biggest haters of the game have ever been in game at launch in a MMO before.  I've been there for 3 or 4 games and every single one suffered from bugs, performance issues,  and generally they weren't released with all features in place, thats par for the course.

    Peace

If any of that were true they would have fixed the broken stuff before its release date or pushed the release date back. As the MMO market gets bigger more and more people are growing extremely intolerant with games that are released before they are ready. And once a game gets the stigma that its busted in a bad way after it releases, it probably won't recover to any kind of greatness. Look at the problems with SWG. I only played the game for a couple months and had a blast but none of my friends would even touch it because of the bad press. Then they 'fix' the game and even more bad press. I really think a lot of ok games could have had much better prospective shelf lives and made their respective companies a lot more money if the developers cared half as much as you claim they do on vanguard.  Any intelligent person knows that MMO's are big business and business is about making money but how can a company truly believe that if they rush some crap out the door instead of pushing a release date back that that would somehow translate into more dollars for the company? I'm not saying that every game can be expected to be released in a perfect state but things that seriously impact a players fun factor shouldn't be allowed to touch the shelves.

Saying you haven't come across any players in game that have claimed they were going to quit because of bugs makes sense. The ones that have had continual crashes and 10 fps like myself probably just quit and instead of spending painful time ingame, came to forums like this to voice those complaints. When a place like Gamespy writes an objective piece about a game, then says they still had performance issues on a very good rig, a lot of people listen.

I never said it didn't run well for everyone.  I have seen frame rates as high as 85 and probably average 45-50 in high quality. That's irrelevant.  I could get  300 fps and that wouldn't change the fact that the game is still broken for everyone I speak to.

"and generally they weren't released with all features in place, thats par for the course."

"Every time I go to a new restaurant, I get maggots with my rice. That's just par for the course." ;) Is that acceptable to anyone?

Ahh the dilemma of upgrading. I myself have a +3500 64, 6800GT, K8NE Mobo, 1.5g Corsair DDR, 2x 80g Hitachi's raid 0,550w PSU, XFI Extreme Music sound card and let me say, performance isnt good I get anywhere from 14 -28 FPS, but my system is old. I just ordered a new system from newegg so I will be fine. I remember when EQ2 launched and the furor from EQ1 players because there boxes couldn't run the game. Such is life and technology. This game takes a good system to run it well, I cant wait to see what the 8800GTX will show me that my poor 6800GT isnt, but even with lowsy FPS am enjoying the hell out of Vanguard. If anyone has played a MMO at launch the vast majority have bugs, and Vanguard certainly does, but not game breaking ones. Its important to decifer from game problems ver. computer problems.

Its just been release so the game will have performance problems. Go have a look at any forum for a new game. There will always be ppl complaining about poor performance.

The grind. This is not a problem of the game. You guys just don't like mmorpgs anymore. Your looking for something different and when you don't find it you find someone to blame.
