Should I wait?

in Everquest II

I'm seriously pondering getting back into a "swords & sorcery" type MMOG. The last one I enjoyed was Dark Age of Camelot, but I've been pondering checking out EQ because lets face it-- there's no other game out there with as much content.

But then I look and see what they're doing with EQ2 and I wonder if I should even bother with EQ1. EQ1 is ridiculously cheap in stores right now, but I know I'd be starting a MMOG very late in the game....

Any suggestions? :)

    I would not recommend going into the original EQ.  Everyone in that game is really high leveled and has been playing for a very long time.  If you did buy it, definitely go into a newer server.  I would wait for EQ2..the only problem is that it is going to be a long time still.  They haven't even hinted yet at a time for beta to start.  Most people are just going to subscribe to a different game while waiting for EQ2.  For you, just stay in DAoC for awhile if you still enjoy that.

    Hehehe! If i were you i would wait for EQ 2 since EQ 1 will be left out when the 2 come out. You will loose all your friends and all the guilds will fall to go on EQ 2 and you'll have to start all over again... image

    EQ1 is still going to go on after the release of EQ2.  I didn't know if you were just saying that all the people will be going over to EQ2.  For everyone who is the original loyalist fan, they can keep playing on there.  It is going to be awfully lonely on those servers, though.

    Interesting and valid points all around. Currently I'm playing EVE and having a blast, so far it's been the MMOG I've played the longest of all... Guess I'll wait for the EQ2 beta...

    Well, if you're having fun playing EVE, then just stick around in the game until EQ2 starts getting revved up for release image

    Yeah I think Yordo is right, I wouldn't go back to EQ1 and I even have a level 63 Cleric.. The problem with EQ1 is unless your like super uber power gamer no one wants you or cares.. Its difficult to find a group unless your in a large guild.. Even towards the end of my playing EQ (which I loved EQ don't get me wrong) I would spend sometimes hours sitting in the Plane of Tranquility waiting to be picked up for a group, and thats even as a 63 cleric... but because I wasn't in a big guild I was not able to get the zone tags that the other players my level had that allowed them to get into the higher level planes.. Usually I would spend my time just following a random new person around (new being level 1-45) and help them out with heals and buffs and whatnot untill I got so bored I logged out.. but thats just my opinion..

    I hope in EQ 2 it won't be possible to "TWEAK" like EQ 1..that is the only thing i hated about EQ 1. They have to find a way so ppl can't tweak. But oh well..that's just a wish...i can live with it anyways...

    The Devs for EQ2 learned from there mistakes from EQ1. In the Original EQ, Armors and weapons were basically class specific, not skill or level based. Plus, items would only decay, if you allowed it to remain on your corpse are a LOOONG Period of time.

    Now in EQ2, Most all weapons, armors and miscellaneous items will be Level Based and quite possible Skill based as well. Plus, Items will have a value of use, which I'm against.

    Do anything but dont wait, I mean, you dont know when the game will be out, just enjoy your time and ignore future game to be released unless they are due in 2 weeks or less(which mean it is launched and not in the hands of the company releasing it anymore).

     

    Get your short term happy first, then think long term, only after short term is happy. :)

    I totally agree,  I really want to play Everquest II, but I have been playing MMORPGs for long enough to know that waiting for a game to be released can be torturous and drive someone insane!  Well maybe not, but it's annoying when you look at the release date for a game you really want only to see it pushed back again and again.  I don't expect to see Everquest II until at least christmas time.  Hey, if I am right, at least I'll get the boxed game as a gift?

    I do exactly as Anofalye says, I pick up a game that is out or coming out in a few weeks and I get into it.  I keep myself busy playing it and have some fun instead of waiting for that one, long-term game I know I'll love.  I am really looking forward to that one special game that'll keep me hooked for years and years, but I am not going to harp on it, I'm going to kill some Orcs and Goblins in the meantime!

    Get yourself a woman. That'll take up all your freetime and then some, plus your income. In doing so, the pay off is usually GOOD. Now, if you succeed in finding yourself a significant other, and EQ2 is released, good luck on keeping her. And if she plays EQ2 with you, You the man!

    I have a wife who loves EQ image.  Eat your hearts out LOL.  Anyway, yes wait until EQ2, Ive played the other MMORPGs and they are a waste of money.  Sad, sad world of MMO's at the moment.

     

     

    If its true that when you drop a cat it lands on its feet or if you drop toast it lands butter-side down... what happens if you strap toast to a cats back and drop it?

    Make sure you and your GF have two different comps to play on though. I have a gamer friend who's GF played EQ also but they would share the comp. Well it seemed they both didn't like to share much so that relationship didn't last very long hehe.

    Yes. The Devs just want to make sure that Artisans play a role in EQ2. That is, at least, what I belive.

    in my honest and humble opinion, YES. I'm at least 80% sure it's going to be pretty entertaining. It's worth a shot.

    It would be best to stick with Daoc until Wow came out and switch over to that for awhile. Then when Eq2 comes out you can make another switch over. It's what i'm doing right now
