Character Customization?

A big selling point in MMORPGs for me is character customization. How would you rate both the pre-game character customization and the in-game customization in terms of different looking armor/clothing sets, colors, etc? Better than EQ2? Better than CoH? On par with Lineage 2?

Also, are there a good amount of animated socials?

Thanks for your time.

Character customization in LOTRO is pretty good. However the developers have said there will be more pre-game customization added when game goes live. So far not bad but adding more will help. In game is pretty cool once you get a few levels under your belt characters start to look very unique.  Pre-game is not as good as EQ2 at the moment but not far behind. CoH/CoV has the best pre customization then any other game out so no where near as good as that. I think over all you will like the customization of characters but from what I have read we will get more.

Anyone know if there are plans for more races?  It makes sense with the 3 available, but was curious.

Actually, in my opinion, character customization at creation time is awful for this game.  Seriously, it's a step backward.  You're given x number of options for faces and hair and what loosely can be termed a "slider" for girth which has about 5 positions.  Considering games are coming out with sliders that offer so much finite control, that's a huge let down.  Worse though, some of the models are just ugly looking -- the female elf mouth is awkwardly shaped and doesn't even close all the way.  I don't think it's a graphical glitch.  I do find it disappointing though.

I found the character creation pretty limiting.  I prefer SWG, COH, EQ2, WOW and Vanguard customization over LOTR character creation at the moment.

The problem is they don't use sliders, but presets.  That would be fine if I liked the presets, but I found there were only a couple here and there that I liked so it left me feeling kinda frustrated.

Another annoying aspect was the female elf I created alwas had her mouth open so you could see her teeth.  LOL.  If she would just shut her mouth she'd be a lot prettier.

Ofcourse it's just beta, so maybe they will improve it.

If you were satisfied with the customization in CoH, WoW and SWG you will be very disapointed with LOTRO's char-customization.

It's pretty bland... a few different faces, a few hair styles, a few "details" and then some color choices for the eyes, hair and skin.

Now when I think of it... it's pretty awful compared to other games out there.

And as for customization "in-game" I can't tell you much as of yet. I'm "only" level 17 so far. But at this point everyone looks the same (depending on what class they are).
