Question about expansions...

I just brought Everquest 2 Desert of Flames and it should arrive tommorow.  I know that it doesnt include KoS or the new EoF expansion but does it  matter all that much for a totally new player?  I plan on getting the other 2 expansions if i enjoy the game, but basically will my gameplay be affected that much at low levels without the two newest expansions or can i hold off buying them until im say lvl 20 or so?

Thanks, any answers would be appreciated

p.s im aware that EoF includes the original game and all expansions however everywhere i looked it seemed to be sold out and i couldnt really find it anywhere, so thats why i didnt buy it and just got Desert of Flames instead.

EoF sold out pretty quickly. Apparently all the major distributors needed to reorder within a week of release and it seems most of that reorder has sold as well. It wasn’t just small orders from distributors that caused it either, as EoF sold more in that first week then either DoF or KoS had in total.

You will not have access to EoF zones, which tend to be better then the older ones.

You will not have access to the KoS zones, but that isn’t an issue until level 55.

You won’t be able to play as a Fae since they can only start in Kelethin.

I don’t think you will have access to the achievement system. Getting a a KoS box instead of a DoF box would have given you the class achievements, but not the sub-class ones.

You won’t have access to the deity system

You won’t be able to level past 60

Basically some inconveniences but nothing crippling. I’d say the biggest loss is achievement system and the superior EoF zones. Kelethin is a nice home city because it’s not divided into 10+ zones like Freeport and Qeynos so there is less zoneing if you live there.

thanks for the answers, i don't plan to start a Fae so thats not too much problem and as i said i intend to get the other expansions if i like the game.  At what lvl do i start getting Achievement points and what exactly are they? are they like the talent points in WoW or something?

As far as I know, you'd have done better getting Echoes of Faydwer instead. If the information on the EQ2 site is correct, it includes all of the expansions and the original game for one price.

In terms of the effects they have they are most like the talent tree in WoW. Unlike WoW they work off a separate, parallel type of experience.

At level 10 whenever you complete a quest, turn in a collection, explore a new area, kill a named mob for the first time or loot certain items you gain some achievement xp. Once you hit level 70 all your combat xp is converted to achievement xp as well. Each time you gain an achievement level you gain another point you can spend on achievements.

Currently you can earn up to 100 achievement points, which can be put towards either class or sub-class achievements. You can spend a maximum of 50 for each tree. It would take ~250 in each tree to take everything in a tree to maximum rank, so it’s a way of both enhancing and customizing your character.

You don’t loose out on achievement points by not having the KoS or EoF expansions, but you will miss out on some of the achievement xp, and it will take you a lot longer to gain the maximum 100 points. Many new characters starting EoF can have 50-60 AC points by the time they hit level 70, if you level to 60 before getting the other expansions you will probably have ~25 and have a lot longer road ahead getting all 100.

You should have bought the EoF Expansion. Comes with all previous expansions. I believe it is about $35...

I don't know how much you spent, but the EoF package cost me 40 bucks.   It included everything (minus a few "adventure packs").

EoF is really where I spend most of my time.    EoF is why I play the game.

For me, everything out of EoF is just icing on the cake.

So, I guess in my opinion you have just bought a package of frosting.

I think you should get  EoF a.s.a.p.

Just my personal opinion and is not binding in anyway.
