heres a few reasons why i think it is crap, this isnt another rant about it because i have played for about 2 and a half years on it so i know what im talking about.
at the start of it i thought it was a fun game and all of my mates play it. the free version is absolute crap which i played on for about a year, the graphics are shoddy but its the best graphics you can get on java without it being very slow and laggy, then you become a member which is pretty good, but you start to become addicted to it and play it for hours without realising, and btw if your account is below about level 80 there isnt much to do without getting abuse form other players. then it seems that the only thing your mates talk about it rs and so do you. about a year or so on, if your account hasnt already been hacked, you start realising that all those hours and hours of leveling up which i feel is a bad point about the game, probably the worst, is that its too time consuming. then you realise after all the years you spent on it. it wasnt fun, it was just work, and you end up forcing yourself to train pointlessly. and the game loses the point if being fun. this is the pitfall for everyone who plays it. now that i quit i feel alot better than before, and occupy myself with other things i went without in those 2 years.
so to those who dont know what rs is and are looking at this dont fall into the addictive pit that many have fell in.

I found this to be a very thorough and complete "why i think rs sucks" post. I also found it to have a striking resemblance to my experience with it, even down to the 2 1/2 years.

Op! I would like to thank you for your excellent reasons on why RS does blow. Refer to this like for even more reasons, scroll down to the last few posts on page 5 for my 55 things that are wrong with RS.
BTW for all you Runescape retards out there, 57 is actually quite high in WoW so dont call me a noob or anything because at 57 you can hit an 1000 with my class.

though i still enjoy playing, ur kinda right.....
The leveling up thing especially. That's why I personally like playing adventure games.
I still play. I do not play ver y often but I do play. Reasons for RS though...
1. It's free. Not many good free games out there but RuneScape has done a fine job of making their game. They over a million or so poeple guys. They HAVE to be doing something right.
2. It's simple. This is what maily throws the public off. The graphics and gameplay are so simple. Instead of loading everything on graphics and then ignoring gameplay, RuneScape adds to both in time.
3. It's fun. That's right I said it. It is a fun game if you acually stop playing just to get to the top. Do everything on your own pace and the experience will be much more enjoyable.
I've been playing for two and a half years as well. I average in about 10 minutes a day though. I'm still playing. I even play WoW at the same time. So don't come crying to me that I think this because I haven't played any other games. Look me up if you want. Mayetaur level 60 Tauren Shaman.

1. theres only about 200,000 people playing rs because most people either stopped playing and they're accounts still exist or they make like 20 chars because they wanna make "pures" i have like 5 or 6 characters four abandoned 1 melee character witch is what people would call a "main" but i played that character for about 4 or 3 and a half years thats about in total played time 2 and a half years
and i made an archer about a weak ago (but that was because i was bored and my ragnarok was broken but it's fixed now).
2. it's too simple and it's all grind theres too much blatant advertisement everytime you level up saying become a member and get more crap!! and members have no lives because they don't just become addicted they basically protect they're purchase so bad they might as well sign over a written wookie life debt to jagex.
ps also at the top of the screen there are cartoon adverts witch look utterly retarded for example the new parents guide advert it goes like this
the kid is playing rs his mother walks in it zooms in on some retarded monster with pointy teeth!!!! oh no!!! so the mother flips out and the kid starts poking the screen then the mother starts playing and then the father comes in and does the same thing the mother did in the beginning.
so you get my point i'll put it in my views
the kids playing rs the mother walks in yatta yatta yatta she goes "oh no jr is retarded and so am i" yatta yatta yatta father comes in yatta yatta yatta.

Okay. I have to say this movie really REALLY made runescape look incredibly BAD! And its right, in a way. RS deffiinately has bad graphics, its very obvious. But, that video only showed the combat sides of both games. Runescape offers so much more than just combat. In all reality, runescape has alot to offer if you dont put the graphics into the picture. For 5 dollars a month and no installation fee, its a very good game.

Overall, if you just want something to do in your spare time, this is probably the game for you. On the other hand, if you want to really get into a game and get really involved with it, something like WOW, FFXII, LOTR, or Vanguard are probably a better choice for you.

This game is yes.... very addictive.
You don't notice until later how much time you have spent just busting your mouse away clicking on stuff.
Actually though, like some of you already said, if a person wants to play a game for relaxation or whatever, not some hardcore gamer, this is a good game to consider. The community really isn't all that extremely terrible, and even though all these people are complaining about the graphics, but i suppose they do not put in to account the fact that IT IS IN THEIR BROWSER AND NOT SOME 3 HOUR DOWNLOAD!
After playing for about as long as the creator of this topic, I think it was remotely worth it, because it gave me something to do, it is actually pretty fun.
Also, they should take into account that most of the people who play this game are 13 year old kids who have nothing better to do with their lives and have little else in their vocabulary but the word 'noob'. If not for them, this game would be just about perfectt

Have you ever read the forums? People there are just retarded, if you go read them you keep your mental sanity for a day or two then you become insane as well. In game its even "better", I learned a bunch of insults that i didnt even immagine there could exist (that happens because of the huge filtrer that jagex has put in the game, to give you an example if you write that's it gets filtred; anything that ends with an s if its misspelled it gets filtred; they even filtrer out google!) so people just invent new insults! Plus, when you fight, if you win you get flamed, if you loose you get flamed, if you dont fight you get flamed, if you're a low level you get flamed, if you're a high level you get flamed (that one quite a lot! lvl 120 here -.-); basically you get flamed for every reason immaginable; sometimes for no reason at all.
Runescape is only fun if you play it against the rules, for example: it is against the rules to have a clan outside the rs forums (which also suck in layout) so if you make your own forum for your own clan and tell other people you get banned, or if you tell other people about fan sites when they ask you for help you get banned <- (that explains bad attitude from midly intelligent players) but anyway if you play with a clan, close an eye on the graphics (maybe both) and ignore the way the managers run the game it gets a very tiny little decent.
About the downloading, man if you waste 342342 hours hitting the same monster over and over to train in rs then 3 hours of download wdf are? just go watch a movie in the mean time!! that's what i mean having no life, you cant get your ass off that pc for 3 hours while it downloads??
But basically there's a good sentence that resumes the whole rs: "It's a way to show how a nerd you are to some kid 5000km away and make them cry" XD
Still i think most people play it because of the fact that its still a place where you can chat and meet other people and have something (even if really boring and gay) to do while you talk with them.

p2p love it cause theres no1 KSing harassing theres more stuff they get to treat f2p like crap that was turned to tofu eaten by som1 craped out eaten by a squirrel craped on a patch o dirt that grew flowers wich was then eaten by a cow wich was later a t-bone steak eaten by a fat guy and crapped again and it goes on and on and on and they aren't liking it it just controlls them and becomes there life. trust me ive seen som1 go from complaintive and annoying to won't shutup about rs even though ive told then to f*ck off a million times and i don't care and i quit and actually succumbs to withdrawal if they aren't playing for 1 second and this happened after 3 days of being a member. so that is why p2p love it and f2p hate it now for the love of (fill in blank with what you believe in/ what you would put) let this thread die
but that aside the filter is crap and so is customer service (if your f2p) it blocks phone, pvp, the letter n if the next word has an i or a g in it, ect ect ect.
graphics don't matter its the gameplay and rs gameplay sucks _____ if there was an online pong not some crap 3d thing but the original pong with the turning knobs for control i would buy it and kik your arses.
