WHAT DO YOU THINK OF EMOS?

No. Goth does not equal Emo. Goths do not cry and whine about themselves to everyone around them. They wear mostly black, accented with wild colors, DIY their clothing (the original goths, anyway), and still remember Skinny Puppy. I know. I used to be goth. . I wear all my old shirts, love skinny puppy, but ditched the black hair and Black pants. Yay goths. Boo hot topic (except their clearance rack!)

I didn't mean to imply that only emo people cut themselves, I know that such is not the case.  My cousin used to cut herself and was far from what I would consider "emo"

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

    I dunno.

Are they nice or bad persons beside been EMO?  Are they efficient or un-efficient groupers?  If they are nice and efficient, I like them a lot, if they are nice and unefficient I will try to help them, if they are evil and efficient, I will try to change them or dislike them...if they are bad/evil and unefficient, I would probably not waste my time around them.

Ah... thank you for the clarification :)

Good luck to them, I certainly sported some ridiculous haircuts and questionable fashion choices in my youth.

But the only self-harm I involved myself in was getting very drunk and staying up too late with my mates :)

Congrats. You just defined every possible sub-culture.

Who cares?(other than the Emo/scenster kids obviously). Its a fad/fashion/style in time it will dissappear, only to be replaced with something else for whiners to moan about.

Yes, emo technically refers to a not-so-emo form of music that started in the mid nineties known as emotive rock, but in the current popular context, it is seen by non-emos as a negative term (just like gay used to mean happy, once upon a time).

So, by using emos in THAT sense...I hope they fucking die! Well, the ones who think that they should make it public knowledge of how much their life sucks, anyways. They lose a girl, and whine for half a year on how their life sucks. A stoner loses a girl, and finds a new one or goes and smokes some weed; no worries. Gangsters don't even give a half-assed shit, they got plenty of bitches, yo. We all go through it.

I hate how everyone connotes certain activities with being emo these days. I cut a huge X into the back of my hand with an auto-switch one day whilst I was bored, next day everyone screams EMO!! The really stupid ones were serious, too. Not everyone who's emo even cuts themselves. It's called masochism. I think the whole sub-culture is just a bunch of angsty teens with nothing better to talk about, who don't fit into any other subculture. I hate them.

    YAY for total ignorance -_-

For once and for all, cutting yourself is NOT about pain. Outwardly, yes it is... But psychologically, no it's not. It hurts yourself just as much to scratch yourself as to cut the flesh, and yet if you give any self-harmer a blunt razor that won't penetrate the skin they will just get more and more frustrated and keep trying. For 90% of people who self-harm/cut, it is ALL about the release of blood. Some will state that they visualise the blood as their pain and it is released from their body, others will come up with other things equally thought-worthy... But it all comes down to one thing: Endorphins. Our pleasure chemicals. Or one of the many, at least. When you cut, endorphins are released in the brain, making you feel better... It's actually quite simple... Feel bad>Release Blood>Release of blood triggers release of endorphins>feel slightly better...

The problem is, because everyone is ignorant of how this works and still sees it as a 'taboo' subject, the process works more like this:

Feel bad>Release Blood>Release of blood triggers release of endorphins>feel slightly better>Immediately feel worse again thinking about how people will react>Accidentally let friends see/tell friends that you've promised you would tell if it happened again (assuming it's happened before)>Friends tell you off, are disappointed/upset>Feel guilty>Feel bad>Release blood.... etc etc etc... It's a downward spiral and everyones condescending bullshit over it is what fuels it.

One day I'll stop making rants each time this subject comes up lol...

I just wonder about anyone who wants to look like a bunch of other poeple....

If your so easily catergorised just by how you look, your obviously lacking in any ability to think for yourself. It doesnt bode well for the rest of your existence and probably explains why they self loath so much.

emo does not = goth... goths are into the more dark and intelligent side of things, they think more of the logic behind things... yes i will admit there are some people who claim to be goth but in fact just like wearing black and whatnot... true "goths" dont complain about stupid whiny stuff. they simply look at things with a different approach and maybe look at things with a little more morbid sense of everything. but no, emo is not goth....its a cheap imitation because they could not think of thier own clothing style because they were too busy cutting up thier wrists and crying about thier pointless crap...

Yeah see Ive always had a different take on that.

I really believe that people who seek "identities" of this nature do it because they dont like themselves. If they did like themselves they would have no need to go in search of what is basically a "lifestyle makover"

What they discover when they get there is that its still them peering out from behind the black eyshadow and odd hairdo. Thats when manifestations of self laothing start.

And as for the explanations of the um..... logic..... behind cutting yourself. I have to say that its very difficult to listen to someone try and rationalise something so desperately irrational. I think the best think would just be to seek help as there seems to be a clear innability to reason.

Which leads me back to my original point.

Outside of jokes, I think the term emo is pretty useless. It gets attached to so many things that the definition is skewed every which way. I mean, my hair isn't in between short and long because I want to be emo or fit in with a group of individuals. It's because I like the way it looks and girls seem to as well. And if you consider yourself emo, than more power to you. If your crap doesn't interfere with my crap then you're a-ok in my book.

As far as this wrist-cutting business and whatnot- A stupid fuck is a stupid fuck. That doesn't make him emo, but rather a stupid fuck who happens to be emo. It's the same way with every other generalization when it comes to race, religion, politics, and interests.

Edit: For anyone who wants to read a little about the origins of emo (music) instead of basing opinions on stereotypes - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_%28music%29

    Goths have no balls.

All that pre-occupation with being dead and yet they are all still alive.

OMG, there are people who look at the world differently than everyone else!!!!  We should definitely persecute them and their message of anti-conformity.

You ever thought that the act of trying to force people to all behave the same is the reason they're depressed?  So many people trying to stifle freedom.  It's a wonder we ever produce people brave enough to think outside of the box at all.

Every goth is unique, just like every other goth on the planet. I call anti-anti-conformity. They conform to each other and are so depressed they never notice it.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

You shouldn't necessarily TRY to be different. It should be who you are. It used to mean something to dress and look differently, like when the hardcore/punk movement started, but not any more. It's a huge fucking trend. You shouldn't dress different because you listen to a certain kind of music, thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard. People who listened to punk back in the day actually agreed with what they listened to. They dressed and looked different to say "fuck conformity". Most of the fucking people that dress rediculously do it eithefor A.) To belong to a certain subculture/ fit in with the other people that dress just as rediculous. or B.) To attention, whether it be positive or negative.

It's a group of people who want to show how different they are from everyone else by dressing alike and having the same mannerisms.

Gnome:  Your reasoning for the "persecution" of emos is off.  Nobody persecutes emos because of their "message of anti conformity"  they get made fun of because they dress like the opposite sex, and have a propensity for partaking in numerous other bizare hobbies.  Bizare by whos standards?  Societal standards...But I guess you are one of those who says that society shouldn't have standards, in which case this isn't even worth trying to get through to you.

Eh, I don't like them. They're a bunch of little retards that act like they hate their life (even though they're spoiled by mom and dad) so they can be cool. They clog up the streets at the movie theater as well. :(
