Some of you may have noticed your threads regarding requests for buddy keys are being deleted.

After consultation  :

Our offcial position is that Buddy Key requests constitute "Virtual Trading" and as such will be treated as per our RoC which states ;

·        In-Game Item Transfers

MMORPG.com cannot - for legal reasons - play host to transfers on in-game items, currency or any other transfers. This includes swaps for money or equivalent items. This includes accounts, account keys and all associated virtual property or rights.

So please DO NOT make threads requesting buddy keys

Thanks

What's the deal here?  The purpose of the key is to be given to someone.  Not traded for anything.

Furthermore, I would like to direct you to these other topics in different areas of mmorpg.com where Beta keys, trial keys, and even CD keys (which is a gross violation of the ToS) are being asked for and given away.

Guild Wars: Nightfall - General Discussion: Trail Keys?

Lord of the Rings Online - General Discussion: Any Beta Key Someone Doesn't Use?

General Discussion - Open Beta Discussion: *4* Dungeon Runners Buddy Key/Referral Program

Guild Wars - Lion's Arch (General): Anyone Have a Guild Wars CD Key They Don't Need?

Dungeon Runners - General Discussion:  Official Invite Thread  (It is even stickied!)

Not to mention the many keys that mmorpg.com itself gives away.

Scions of Fate

9Dragons

Pirate King Online

DragonRaja

Matrix Online

And that is from the first page alone when I searched the site for "key."

What's the deal, and why the hypocrisy?

Oh sure.  First the suit and then the tie.  Next thing you know someone will be wanting a paycheck.

    So no answers then?

Well rules are created to be broken and this site is no exception. Also you forgot to mention Dungeon Runner in your list since people give out referrals or buddy keys to other users. There are many topics full about it too.

So you cannot give buddy keys from Vanguard but you can from other games? Even in the gaming world we have racism.

My question, not that it pertains to this thread in the slightest, is why you are posting as Staff for the site when your title lists you as a 'Novice Member' not as 'MMORPG.com Staff'? :)

    Added Dungeon Runners.  Thanks.

And if the_rogue is a staff member of mmorpg.com . . . why are you dodging the question?  Why are you acting like SOE?

I have to say this is the most rediculous rule I have seen.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly why he is being referred to as a Mod/Staff? He has a standard, Novice Member account from all appearances... Unless things have changed since back when I worked for the site and every staff member had to be VERY CLEARLY identifiable...

As ex-staff . . . what do you have to say of the situation?
  • RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686
As EX-Staff, and more emportantly, an employee of a different game company, I can't really comment on the situation on hand, I just wanted to clear up what appeared, at least to me, the confusion of either someone possibly pretending to be a staffer, or someone who IS a staffer who doesn't have their account labeled correctly. :)

Ok, he's not staff and ur not either?  Previous statement stands.  Also, where is the real reply from staff then?

    First,

The_Rogue is not a member of MMORPG.com staff and does not speak for us.

Now that that is out of the way, I want to clarify some things. While I am not entirely sure where the OP found that quote, or who they are quoting, the last time I checked, it was not against the rules to give beta keys.

That being said, don't be surprised if you see a sticky or two pop up for those exact inquiries. Right now, we're getting a large number of them, and it's cluttering up the forums.

Further to this, MMORPG.com giving away beta keys and other prizes is done in cooperation with the game companies in question. This allows us to be sure of the source and sure of the giver (ourselves). The reason we do not allow transfers and the like to be conducted by members is that we can not  / have no wish to assume responsibility as a site for virtual trading.

Also, I would like to point out that if you have an issue with other posts in areas of this site, you should use the report tool rather than creating a thread about it and going through the trouble of linking them all.

    Hope that clears things up.

    Cheers,
