I am wanting to get back into playing a MMORPG after playing Ultima Online a few years ago. However, UO has gotten a bit ridiculous, so I'm looking for something new.
I really liked how the economy was in the game. It reminded me of this gamed called "VZones" (www.vzones.com) I used to play when I was really young (which is also a horrible game, don't bother trying it). I like that there are rare items that aren't still spawning, and things of that sort.
Anyway, my question is.... does anyone know a game with an economy like that, that's fun to actually play as well? I can't seem to find anything. I was going to try out Vanguard, but they've been banning people for gold sales, and that's just strange in my opinion.
Any other games I should check out?

Eve has a good economy, but it seems like good economies are hard to come by these days due to restrictions set in place to discourage the secondary market.
If you don't mind waiting until this Summer (June, I think), you could check out Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Isildur's dev log which describes the economy is almost a year old, but it's been said on their forums that it's already been put in the game. After reading it, I got all the more interested. The economy seems like it'll be a core part of the game, rather than just a secondary thing.
You'll have to scroll down a bit to the section named "The Player-Owned Economy," and it's quite long, but very detailed and reminds me a lot of SWG's economy. It also goes into some detail about the crafting portion of the game.
Thanks for the link, Darkstar. A lot of the stuff he's talking about is very interesting, and the game reminds me of eve quite a bit. Unfortnately, I tend to like a physical character over a ship, but I think it's certainly worth a try. There are a lot of concepts here that I really like, such as resource control through pvp, harvestors and factories, economies of scale, risk transporting goods, and complex crafting. I felt at first as if I would miss the resource qualities (like used in SWG), but let that slide when I realized the low rate at which resources would be harvested compared to the vast quantity needed.
This is exactly the kind of thing that I'm looking for. It rewards tactical decision making and player skill for financial success, while allowing you to use that success to at the same time to become a powerful hero or pirate. It's amazing how much meaning an economy can place in a game when mixed with the pvp element of resource control. It seems very exciting to me.
The potential bummer to me seems to be the eve style "stuck in the ship" model. Playing as a ship was okay at first but eventually got quite boring. Wow, on the other hand, is very immersive to play. If Blizzard could only use this kind of an economic model with the same pvp control concept based on land, I'd be in pure heaven.
Why is economy so important to you?

Well then I think you should check out a few other devlogs. Physical charactors will be part of the game, inculding avatar combat.
Not only that but they've recently updated the avatars in this devlog Here
Yeah..i think il keep my suggestions for myself..
Or not..if you want to do things in easy mode come to WoW..theres plenty of gold you can buy there and im sure you can farm plenty there aswell!
You are a farmer or gold buyer il assume..WoW caters to both.
I think, anyway, I just started following this game after I was disappointed with WoW's Burning Crusade.
You'll be able to get out of the ship; I wouldn't be recommending this game if you couldn't walk around..... Your crew will be NPCs, however, and while a lot of people seem to be requesting player-controlled crews, I personally think NPCs are the way to go...
A producer said that after the initial release they may be working on an Officer system for your NPC crew.
I read somewhere that they'll also add a "Captain's Cabin" which you can decorate, making player housing a moot point.
And besides that, I think (?) you also get a starter ship when you first make your character.
Besides which (as someone on the official forums pointed out) it'd be better to have two ships with two crews of NPCs and one Player Captain each, than to have only one ship with two or 10 people (some of whom will refuse to follow orders)
Multiple ships will be able to participate in boarding another ship, however....
Again, this is only what I've read on the forums. Isildur also posts in the PotBS forums on mmorpg.com here...which brings me to my next point....the devs have actually been listening to the community.
They've had a closed beta for almost a year (year and a half when it releases?)...This isn't a slight against the devs, it's praise; how many other devs actually listen to the community in the beta?
Yes, I agree that's it's sad that I'm a fanboi even before I've played the game....
But the economy seems so complex that it's like a game in itself....
It is possible to get incredible rich in Eve just by buying and reselling if you know how and got the patience.

Asheron's Call 1 had the best econmy for in game items. All items were randomly generated on drop. was magnificiant, i wish EQ 2 would apply that.
for people Community, I think EQ 2 so far has a over all general best, IMO
