I dont think that anyone can convince you to do something, I think it should really be up to you. What you need to do, is look at what you think is important in a game, and see which title offers that. I'd hate to sell something to you that you'd hate.
Of the 3 you mentioned. EQ2 should be the smoothest out there, it's had the longest release, most time to polish, and to add content to. Vanguard is just released, and while fun (to me) definitely has it warts and growing pains. LoTR is still in beta, and to be honest, still will have to go thru it's release curve, and that could be anywhere from not bad, to horrible, to (odds are) someplace right in the middle.

Honestly., and I'm not being a wise-guy, read the other posts, particularly the one where I asked people to give me VG's advantages over WoW.
At this point I've chosen not to buy VG, mostly because: 1) The quests sound basically the same as WoW (kill X of Y, etc). Plus, after level 10 or so, the quests (apparently) get longer and harder. Plus there appears to be semi-forced grouping, and having played DDO and faced the Nightmare of the PUG night after night, that's not an appealing aspect. 2) Likely performance issues (I have a decent rig that plays Oblivion at full detail, yet VG scares me from what I've been reading) and the fact that many people do not gush over the visuals even at higher settings. Graphics don't really mean a heck of a lot to me, but I don't want ugly if I need to run at lower graphic levels. 3) I get the impression there are LOOOONG travel times, even after getting the level 10 mount.
Good luck with your replies and with VG should you bite the bullet!
1. Find me a half decent game that doesn't have this. 2. VG is painful, but I've seen people with moderate specs play great. But it is kind of a crapshoot. 3. Full agreement here. There are mutterings of teleports, but the community is massively split on this.
So far the only teleports I've found are between continents.
Out of what I'v seen nobody has mentioned LOTRO that much. First off i'v heard many many many comments on how unstable Vangaurd is... There are so many bugs, you have to have a very very very good computer to play with no lag on low graphics. I have heard many bad things about this game so I would recommend not playing this game until you hear people saying its fixed or gotten much better.
Now for LOTRO (Lord of the Rings online) I am in Beta right now. I was really amazed at how smooth the game runs (there is the occasional server lag but not common at all very very rare for it to happen). I have only experianced 1 bug in this game and that was an unimportant quest but it is already fixed. I can say I am completely amazed at the graphics, gameplay, quests, everything about this game is very impressive. Its almost like its already launched and been out for a month or 2. This game is very impressive but not for the player who only likes PVP. There is Monster play but I havn't tested that yet. So I would recommend LOTRO but that's my opinion I have already pre-ordered the game. So hope this helped.

I am playing on a AMD Athlon 3200 2.0GHz, ATIX1300 and 1GB Ram.
I play on low settings with no problem. I have only had 1 crash, and a few mobs disappear on me, which is easily rectified.
I bought a dell in late 2004 that consisted of a p4 3.0ghz, radeon x300, and 512 MB RAM.
I got into VG beta early beta 3. I was able to run the game playably on high performance (as opposed to very high performance, I didn't notice much of a difference). Then again my definition of playable is about 10 fps, with smooth being 20/25-35/40fps. I got an extra gig of memory and performance has increased. The game doesn't run like a dream or anything, but maybe I'm just used to having lag in all kinds of games (i've played most of the big MMO's out there) so while it didn't run ideally it was alright.
1. You enjoy long amounts of time doing things like traveling, rather than playing
You are still playing, are you not?
2. You enjoy a feeble attempt at "realism" that really means "Plastic-like"
Only the faces klook like plastic. The rest of the world looks good on medium-high settings.
3. Your system is brand new and uber
I can run the game on an AMD AThlon 3200 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, and ATI X1300. Not very new or uber
4. You have the patience to die over and over and over due to bugs and lose exp
Have not had this happen to me yet.
5. Death should be extremely punishing
As opposed to nothing happening. Where is the thrill if death means nothing?
6. Spending hours clicking the same functions over and over (crafting) is fun (and no, there is no "skill" in crafting - it's mindlessly easy)
And what game is not clicking the same functions over and over?
7. You feel that hours spent, and not quality gameplay, determine the "skill" level required to reach high levels of an MMORPG
There is no skill required in any MMO. They are all the same underneath it all.
8. You think every person playing WoW is 11 and mentally retarded.
I play both . . . so I am schizo?
That about sums it up.
Yes it does
In short - DONT BUY VANGRIND. It is a throwback to a dark time in MMORPG history (namely, the first 2 years of EQ1).
You are obviously a troll and a hater.
Beautiful! Couldnt have said it better myself / agree completely

Oh yes. A person that has a different, valid opinions about the game then you is immediately an evil troll and a hater...
Those are not opinions. You are posting them as facts, trying to get someone to not play a game that they might like. I refuted your "facts" with some real facts . . . and maybe one or two opinions thrown in for good measure. You can tey and rebuttal, if you wish, but your initial response shows me that you have nothing that you can throw at me except in innocent "Moi?"
Do your own research. Go to the websites and read up on the game. look at the screenshots and the reviews. When all that is said and done if you can look at the information you have and say "nah thats not for me" Why would I waste my time trying to convince you that it is?
I am assuming you play VG. If so, nice attitude to have toward your prospective player base. Want to have VG become a great game? It requires subscribers, consistant subscribers. Treat people asking questions and newbs like trash and your player base fails to keep up with cancellations, and eventually you end up with a game with lots of potential shot down the tubes because it no longer has funds. There are tons of examples, you do the research, maybe you could learn something...
Way to assume there sweetheart.....
Sorry if i offended your delicate sensibilities there nancy but you dont know what the hell you are talking about. i DONT play VG mostly because I dont want to shell out the cash to upgrade my machine. I will wait for LOTRO which I can run just fine on what I got.
Now concerning the OP and his ridiculously lazy request that we who have done our homework and made intelligent decisions based on what we have learned share all of this information with him so that he is spared the time investment required to know whether the game is fitting for him he can take a flying leap. It aint our job to educate him concerning the game as though any of us cared what he plays. I dont think VG supporters are so lonely in game that they are going to feel compelled to convince this lazy bastard that VG is the cats pajamas.
Next time try not to be so presumptous there Susan and dont get your panties all in a bunch ok.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
starman, I have done my own research, and tons of it. But I wanted to know what the community thinks. I tend to trust the community, and often they know what is good and what is bad better than I can assume.

Agreed, I was thinking the same thing about the post you responded to, If his attitude is representative of the players in VG then he's welcome to the game. I played in beta and whilst the game has promise there needs to be a lot of bug fixes and machine optimization done before id consider buying the game.
Just another indication that a high post count doesn't necessarily mean that someone has anything useful to say.
I'm looking for a new MMO. I really enjoyed WoW, but I've gotten sick of it's horrible community, and want a better game. EQ II, LotR:O, and Vanguard are what I'm looking at, and any other one people suggest. I want to know what Vanguard fans think about the choice. This guy is right that VG is harder than WOW because you have to put up with a boatload of bugs to play a mediocre game. Other than that there is nothing hard about VG.
If you are choosing between VG and EQ2 go with EQ2 because it has been out a long time and is likely very stable.
What a strange thread - Acid has already stated that he has decided to give VG a shot, and for admirable reasons as well. Let us know what server you are on Acid, I'm sure one of us can use a guildmate or a levelling partner.

You are correct that there is nothing hard about VG, but that is not what the poster said - he said challenging, which is true. It is more time consuming and requires more forethought. You get what you "pay" for. And it is also true that it requires better hardware to fully enjoy. It is not true that if you enjoy WoW then you will not enjoy VG. I enjoy both, though I am more immersed with VG. I tried EQ2 a year ago and it ran as clunky as VG but it didn't have the immersive potential so I dropped it. LotRO is more stable than VG already and will also be a great game, but it reminded me too much of WoW which I already have 2+ years invested in - so there would be no reason for me to move there other than a change in scenery. But I am not the type to recommend a game based solely on stability - and I don't understand those that do.
