Dreamlords:another loser?

Hi

I was thinking of trying Dreamlords but it's another pay first if you want to try the game which makes me a little leary after some the other duds that have been released lately..Has anyone even tried this RPG/RTS hybrid yet?

I don't know but the advert for it just appeared on the top of the screen here and I have got to say this. I am getting pretty sick of every game making the most baseless claims to advertise their product. I wish they'd just be honest and advertise their game on its own merits. They could say "Great pvp!" if they think that's true, say "97% - PC Gamer" if that's true etc but I'm getting pretty sick of reading this rhetoric over and over again. For reference, the advert said "Online Gaming will never be the same again". Tired, meaningless rhetoric.

The fact they had to resort to that doesn't bode well.

Insert signature that doesn't break the rules here

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Right now I paid for the 30 days to see what's it like. Right now the biggest problem is that they use a web interface for a good bit of the game play [city and army management], which I think is not too bright considering how often it's hard to switch between the rts client and then to the web browser just to do one thing via two different clients. It's a bad move on their part, but the game is fun to play so far beyond that gripe.

The game is very very nice... its much different than anything out there now.

Its RTS / turn based strategy / mmo ....mixed into one, and they did it well (i really didnt think it was possible before).

On the web part, they give the turned base strategy and civ building (make cities, explore, resource management, crafting, army management, forums, trade, tech tree management....and all kinds of other things) ... that alone is pretty nice, and more detailed then any other strategy game i have played (way more advanced then CIV or empire X line of strategy games, you can customize your troops with equipment! I have never seen a strat game do that).

And then, you have the RTS part of the game.... decent rts graphics and gameplay. Pretty standard stuff, quests and encounters are played there. Alone, the RTS wouldnt be much...but combined with its other half (the web part), its something really really new to strategy games.

Finally they got the pvp in the game. I was thinking "its going to be deathmatch zerg fest"... but they actually pulled off a nice system for pvp. Its all about capturing and holding key points on the map ...way more strategy then a lot of other games (they also combined the pvp / pve / RTS and all the other elements together to work with eachother...not just different mini games within eachother).

Yea, this game is a pretty fresh take on strategy genre. Basically...if you are a fan of strat games, you need to pick this one up, its a lot better then anything else out right now.

I wouldn't slam this game. We're used to seeing either stock Korean MMO's or unpolished western offerings in our ad banners, so I can understand why people don't expect much from Dreamlords. I thought the same thing when I first looked at it, but the numbers seem to be telling a different story, honestly.

I really think is Lockpick's breakout title as a gaming company.

Yea, for a small company that i never heard of before...they sure did their homework.

Also the devs seem to be pretty active and talking to the players (good sign!!!), so it seems like they care (can also tell by the gameplay details, such as no simple deathmatch pvp...and the bits of humor in the encounters hehe).

I cant wait to see what new stuff they will be adding as the game ages and grows (and it will...anyone that likes RTS that has wished for it to move into more persistant mmo type environment will love it).

I don't believe in judging games by their ads, in that case I wouldn't be playing anything at all. I mean... How many cheesy ads aren't out there =)

Anywho, I really enjoy this game so far. I can do all research, management, fiddling around the market while I'm at work and then do some pve/pvp when I get home :D

Of course there are some minor stuff but it doesn't bother me that much considering it has just been released. You can always improve the game by participating and that's why I like mmo's.

The community is by far one of the most mature one's I've been to. It is also nice to see that the developers drop by and answer questions and gives tips on how to play the game.

I understand people who aren't keen on paying without a trial first. But in my case, I don't think paying for a game and 30 days for 20$ is all that bad. But if you're uncertain then just take it easy and read the forums, read about it on the homepage and make up your mind later on.

Well! I'm off to play ^_^

First, ignore the ads. I mean really all the ads I see are crap but that is the fault of the marketers not the game development team. If you really want to know about the game then read gaming websites along with the official web sites. I applaud the making of Dreamlords for at least daring to try something new although the dumber, immature  1337 players who want their phat loot on the spot without having to squeeze out a drop of thought will rush to bash a game like this. I guess new and different scares people like that who fear their WoW and EQ clones will be taking away from them. All gaming genres begin with a game like Dreamlords and while Dreamlords may or may not have a high player base, maybe it will encourage game developers to make their version of a MMORPG/RTS. I plan on trying because I like RTS and MMORPG and for only $20 I think is the first month cost that includes the client and monthly fee.

It's an original game to be sure. I'm playing it right now, but what I think it fails at is the splitting of focus. What I mean by that is you have to use a web browser to access the patria/empire management part of the game, and then use the RTS client for combat and quests. So, that's going to turn off even some veteran MMO players looking for something refreshing. I think the game does have legs though considering the sheer number of MMORTSes on the market today which are either totally web based or totally 3d client based which are financially successful just to give a clue to its future. The fact it doesn't clone the same ideas of other MMORTSes or MMORPGs at least ensures it a steady audiance. And I do think it is a worthwhile game to play if you like to compete against other players and have something to show for it.
