A few days ago I downloaded Galaxies, I guess I had been watching too many Starwars movies lately and got the urge to go take a look-see. I knew more or less what to expect but I did it anyway. My son who had intiated the talk of downloading the game didn't even attempt to play once he saw what I did.
I'm an ex-vet, played for 2 years 2003-2005 back just as it went live. Upon returning, I had a ton of rewards waiting for me, including the 30 month one which is a 200 added items deed for your house. It felt strange returning once again, it had been 2 years since my last time here.
I logged in Kaadara, Naboo inside one of my homes. I looked around and began to recall the many things I had done while looking around my homes. I then left for the spaceport to get my ship. Along the way I saw no one, just creatures and npc's. I headed to Theed, one of the most crowded places before NGE. When I arrived at the port outside, once again I saw no one, this was on a Sunday, late afternoon. It looked so strange the fact this place was completely voided of people.
Everything is different, this is a totally different game. There is no Galaxies of old, just this new version. I had forgotten how to do some things. Some because I plain forgot and others because it's a different game now.
I decided to hit space to get my rust off and kill some rebel npc's and space was just as empty, no one here either. I hyperspaced to just about every planet and not once did I see anyone, not once. I hit Tatoonie, one of my old time favorite places and the place I first made my home back in 2003. Saw 2 people, one when arriving and one when departing, that's it.
Today is day 3 and again space was completely empty of players. I logged in Theed because it's where I logged out yesterday. When I arrived there were 2 people near the port, that's it. Might of even been the same two I saw before, who knows.
This is in the Radiant server I'm talking about. I'm awared I gave my money away when I returned but I did it anyway. Since I have a month and I like the space battles, in the other forums I wrote I would pay millions for two or three pilots to help me finish mastering my pilot skills which with a small group wouldn't take long but I got no answers. I didn't really expect any, no one home. Lucky for me I have many crates of missiles for my ship, I don't think you can find any to buy if you had none.
They need to merge their servers if they want half a chance to survive a bit longer. I just can't see anyone paying on a monthly basis to play in empty servers. And you know this game has a lot of servers and probably the majority are just like this one, empty.
Maybe in a few of the other servers they have some sort of population but Radiant is completely dead and long forgotten. All that remains is the wind, tumbleweeds an old memories of a time long ago which will never ever return.

Interesting perspective. But who is the bigger twat? The players that you refer to or the company that puts its faith into those returning customers?
It's SOE that is hurting your game experience, not it's past subscibers.

On this, I will agree. SOE needs to grow some balls and do what needs to be done. The only thing left of Star Wars Galaxies is the scenery.
Almost everything else was removed and nearly all of the players went to games worth paying to play.

"When the game was good, you didn't have to ask where the population was, because it was everywhere. When the game was good you didn't have to ask which server had population, because they all did. When the game was good you didn't have to beg friends to give it a try, because they were already playing. " - Salty Pete
This is a gamers nightmare; to invest time and emotion into a game, and have it thrown away by the developer. Unfortunately I see this being the rule, not the exception for this company. Before I started playing WoW I was seriously considered getting SWG. I can almost guarantee that there is a bunch of infighting going in the company regarding what to do with this game. How can you let your franchise game just wither and die without making an campaign to save it? I think a lot of gaming companies can and should learn a hard lesson here: always listen (in moderation) to the people who play the games, because in the end they will make or break you.
I like the people that claim there is people playing the game now...those are my favorite.
The funny ones are people asking... "Why is there houses there if nobody is in them???"....
At one time the servers were fine with population and thriving....lol then the CU hit -- did damage... but playable... THEN the NGE hit... it was the nail in the complex coffin.
It sure is funny for people to try to now defend the NGE and it's success... or shall I say failure.
The NGE is doing exactly what we said it would over a year ago.. although it's now over the 1 year predicted failure and server merge rant.
I actually would have thought it would have come sooner -- at about 8 months to 12-- Yeah it was being bold but still... it could have been.

SOE's John Blakely and Todd Fiala issued a warning: "Don't make our mistakes." Ref NGE
