Have Global chat in all MMO

arctarusarctarus Member UncommonPosts: 2,581
1 thing that always makes me fell like this is a mmo that im playing is always the communications between players. Take it from WoW when the glbal LFG is on during that period. The whole world feels so much alife! We have ppl discussing every topic, be it a quest help, a class spec or just which weapons to use, you will have different ideas from diff person. This will only be good for a player needing answer.

Once they take it away, it feels the world is so quiet, even in an eerie sense... so boring, ppl dont talk anymore...

No doubt with it comes global spam, barren chat, from the famous chuck norris to "where is Mankirk's wife" etc.. but this is only the minority, and they will always be there but usually they only last for a few mins. So even when you are soloing in a far corner all by yourself, you wont feel lonely as you can continue to "hear" people "talking" and mostly funny stuff...

You may say ,well, i can always talk to my guildies, but seriously most of the time its been quite quiet also. Just allow the option to turn off the Global channel if you dont like or when you are in a Raid and i believe many of us will enjoy the game, the community.
So for all upcoming mmo, may i suggest to add in global chat?

    I just have one question.

Do you play the game or do you chat?

(an IRC client is much cheaper and there are no subscription fees)

No doubt im here to play the game, but it brings the world moer to life if there's people chatting, just like the real world... you can also interact with them if you want.. :)

I totaly agree with you, when you see people chatting you don't feel like you're the only one playing the game. You also make friends faster of have contact with other players just by replying them.

The possibility to turn it on/off is also a good idea. There always are people who don't like things, so they can turn in off. Or when you are very sleepy, and don't want to be bothered, it can also be nice not to see anyone chatting ;).

So you are talking about a medieval fantasy? Or a Sci Fi Based game like Eve?

    The difference is important :)

I would definitely NOT want global chat in Lineage 2... Heroes can already talk to the whole server and that is only a few certain people and they are usually always arguing. Plus I would hate to see WTS/WTB every other second in global.

    I agree...

Usually globals and regionals are mainly used to sell or goad other people. It's also a distraction from gameplay iteslf, and displaces players by submersing them in chats while they ignore their surroundings.

It usually does more to harm community than help IMO.

Also unimmersive, in that medieval society did not have cellphone communication, although you can use the "magic" excuse if you need to rationalise it. To me it's all just one more trivialisation of the MMOg rpg genre...

No, please no global chat in UO neither. There is nothing worse than getting spammed while playing ^^ I realy got better things to do while I am playing then to chat to like loads of people.

Yeah, I'd like a global chat system. it just gets too quiet in some MMO's. although it should be optional, and one should be able to turn it off.
  • MUDs already implemented this idea over 15 years ago.  Yet again proving that MMORPGs are just crappy featureless dumbed down versions of MUDs that barely use  the 3d worlds that supposedly make them better  (except maybe Eve and CoX and Auto Assault in that regard).

The old "if you don't like it don't use it" argument just does'nt work.

I understand your lonlyness at times with lack of chat, but I feel guild or group chats can fill that void.

I'm not against those, although I could also live without them.
Additionally there is vent and TS available if you have a headset.

Nah I feel auctions and regular chats are'nt good things in general.
But understand, I'm oldschool, and never had them in UO, so my standards may seem hardcore, but to me they are normal.

It's like adding unneccesary garbage to a game client, and the more you add the less meaningful the game becomes.

    I got a better idea........

All MMOs should have chat bubbles. I dont like the chat box and i think it takes away from my immersion to hear what people are saying everywhere in the game. i would much rather have the option of turning it off and just seeing the chat bubbles of those who are close around me.

I dont play MMOs to discuss politics or real life, I play to get away from all of that. I just want to enjoy my little fantasy world.

Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.

LOL I agree, but then you have the group that say text over head or chat bubbles detract from your visual experience.

Still... the option of a box or bubble should exist, and remove the global/regional capability.
