what would MMO devs do with players who have time to play only every saturday wich is 4 days per month?

We would play the game but monthly fee for 4 days is simply ripoff from my-case-perspective...

offcourse from company perspective u need servers and no lag and stuff... but sorry that is not good enough for me that is (older player with full time job)

make some kind of More expensive game and free 5-10 days play per month or sth... or just count me and my kin out.

Even only playing 4 days a month MMOGs are still cheaper than renting movies at home for the same amount of time.

How do you define "much more"?  How much is a Vanguard sub?

Edit:  Ah, maybe you mean compared to other game types like RTS or FPS that don't have subscription fees?

the going rate for most MMORPGs is 15 USD a month, SOE station pass is 25 USD  a month. I am going lifetime since 15 x 13 months is 195 USD and I can see myself playing the game at least 13 months with all the expansions etc. During the next year I will also try AOC, WAR, PoBS, and possibly TCoS all of which will probably charge 15USD a month should I decide to subscribe

Well if you do plan on playing only 5-10 days a month but you'll play for many years, go for the lifetime membership.

Unfortunately pricing is the main enemy of MMOs. Sorry to say but if you don't want to play for your pay, well, not much else you can do about it.

I don't really consider pricing an enemy, specially if it is a quality game. I mean, most people spend $10-15 (US) on bullcrap every month anyway. WHy not spend it on entertainment that is available to you around the clock. IF you can't afford that, then maybe you shouldn't be into MMO gaming, imo. Plenty of decent single player games and also online FPS games that aren't subscription based. *shrug*

Yea but what if Jackdog had a lifetime membership to that restaurant and only payed once when he first started going there. It'd be like having a tab that you never have to pay.

I think LOTRO having different payment types is a nice idea. They're rewarding those who are pre-ordering, those who aren't are getting the same price as 95% of other MMORPGs on the market, and if you do the lifetime thing then you get unlimited play time forever. I know personally I always end up going back to a game down the road, so having my account automatically activated and paid for would be nice.

thats why I am doing the lifetime thing. I doubt if I will play 20 months straight, however I will be doing all the expansions so in the long run that is he way fore me to go.

I don't think he was complaining about the cost of MMOs.

I think he was raising a fairly valid point about different pricing structures for different types of games.

If SoE takes a HARD stance and charges EVERYONE a flat fee every month, then sure, that is a little unfair for people who might only play for a handful of hours a week/month etc.

Happily, thats where certain games [*ahem WoW*] offer TIME CARDS...so if you play for a few hours a month, you only pay for the time you play.

Thats a GREAT way of helping the possible players of a game, it helps with professionals who have jobs, it helps younger player who may not have credit/debit card, in general its all good...

however running such a venture, is almost a spearate business in its own right...distribution, printing of cards etc. things like that...time cards are not easy for a publisher.
