Granado Espada and Sword of the New World (?)

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718
Are these two games different, or is this a large update for Granado Espada? I read on Sword of the New World that there will be a Trial Version and Premimum version of that with boxed sets. So I'm thinking these are two different games. Based on how the site is it seems this has just started. I could be wrong though. Anyone have any infomation on this?

Sword of the New World is a lovely localization for all of us yanks.  What people on this site are beta testing right now is the Singapore localization.  The suits in charge of GE's publishing probably did some testing with focus groups and found that the name wasn't a very good one for the American market, so they downgraded Granado Espada to subtitle status.  The full title is now Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.

I don't know what the difference between the premium and free version will be.  I imagine whatever perks they toss to premium users will be something fairly easy to code up, as I don't know of them doing this is in any other market.  It might be significant, and it might be fluff.  I'm not sure what to expect.  These guys have already surprised me on a few fronts.

    That really is weird.

I thought Granado Espada was a great title. This is just adds a ton of confusion for the people that hav been following the game, no?

Well, Granado Espada was never a title you were meant to hear, and most gamers haven't, so I can't really say this will cause much confusion.  Honestly, how many American gamers have really been following this game?  I think we're in the minority here.

Personally, I'm glad to see this name change.  If they're serious about localizing this game, they have the potential for a serious hit here.  I strongly believe certain gameplay aspects of GE will turn off American gamers, but these are things which can be adjusted.

Sword of the New world is the US/EU version of Granado Espada bought by K2 network. some things will be diffrent, K2 network is planning to revamp the tutorial, storyline and the entire quest system. the payment system will be diffrent too.

It's not such a bad name, but in a way, yes not many people know about this game. I remember when me and another member presented it here, it was...kinda suprising to us. But yeah maybe adding Sword of the New World: Grando Espada will make things start running on track. Also took me a while to prefect spelling "Granado Espada". So I guess it's a right move. We just gotta see if it works.

    EDIT

So Game, you saying Sword of the New World is under a different developer? Wow.... I hope the billing prices isn't a big difference. Is it a good thing to change the tutortial, quest system and storyline? I love the quest system, but I hope they don't screw it up. We can only hope I guess.

I don't know if K2 network will make those changes themself, or if they will order IMC games to do it.  The pricing plan is still unknown, but I think it will be similar to Warrock's pricing plan, which is horrible imho. the tutorial could be improved, I.E., there is no explenation on the stance system, but I don't like K2 network messing with the storyline and quest system. I don't really see why the quests need improvement in the first place. They have a good storyline and usually intresting objectives, what more do you want?

all in all we have to wait and see what happens, but I'm not to thrilled about K2 network messing with it. After looking at SWG & the matrix Online, I get a bit nervous around the word "Revamp". also that imo, K2 network isn't the best mmo publisher. I'd rather have Codemasters, NCsoft or Gravity corp. pick it up.

I doubt they're going to remove anything that works, in terms of quests.  It doesn't make much sense for them to make more work for themselves.  I've never seen a developer get a license to bring a game to another market and then rip out content.

Is that what L2 has, then?  A license to localize this game?  Or do they have more control over this version than that?

they probably have more control over it. K2 also has full control over MU online to my knowledge.

This is very scary now. I don't know why they want to touch the story of game. That kinda means changing all the dialogue thoughout the game. I don't see what's the problem with the quest system at all. Very scary thoughts.

Well if its aimed at the US market they will probably want to dumb down the story line a bit. Throw in terms like "terrorists" and "fight for freedom", which seems to work a treat to manipulate the American public in real life

Na just kidding, but yea changing the story is odd, when its set in a historical period.

Heh, well the historical aspect isn't a problem. In terms of similarities, there is some Spanish. And you emigrate to the 'new world', which was a euphemism for the Americas. That's pretty much it. Some particular subset of anime (or whatever term is most global) is into western imagery in the same way Americans like Ninjas, Samurai, and various elements of Eastern mysticism. The whole 'new world' angle is basically a vehicle for that from what I can tell.

Sword of the New World is an awkward name. They're better off with Granado Espada. Then we can call it Granado Espada Online, GEO. Which is a nice TLA and falls trippingly off the tongue. SotNW fulfills neither requirement and brings every connotation of "New World" with it. Ranging from the Americas which the game vaguely resembles to various globalization rhetoric and conspiracy theories billed under the "New World Order."

Finally, if they're messing with the story I hope they put all the text on a single screen instead of doing single sentances with a "Confirm" button (not that there is anything to confirm, oh well). Its not that I want to skip all the text at once but rather prompt overflow, I miss more clicking through multiple screens than I would skimming a paragraph.

Well I like the name Grando Espada.

Put your hands on your hips, throw your head back and announce to your spouse (or whoever is in the room with you at the time), "I'm going to play Grando Espada!" in a dramatic voice, then whirl on your heel and go play. If you can manage a fake acsent, thats even better.
