What replaces UO ?

komukomu Member Posts: 18

I love UO, But I feel its spoiled now I still play, but don't enjoy it as much as before. ::::16::

So what game should I play that is like uo, but better.

I have tried these MMORPGS so far.. none of them don't get even close to UO.

Horizons
Everquest
Neocron
WW2 online
Anarchy online
Biosfear

Could you people send me tips what could be better and why.

sorry there is no mmorpg at Ultima's par which is why i dont play mmorpgs anymore, nothing will ever be as good as uo was, these days the prices just keep getting higher for games with less content

No MMOG is like UO, so if you start to play something else you will have to adept to another playstyle..

UO is still my favorite game even if I quit several years ago when they sacked all counselors...

Amen....I quit years ago and still miss the game but I am actually looking forward to Darkfall which will prolly come out next spring. This game looks to mirror UO and hopefully it will. There are pvp games coming out but they all have a small aspect in which I dont like except Darkfall.

    Dragon Empires=no stealing

Dark and Light=dark can only attack light and light can only attack dark....how can u deceive anybody that way??image

Guild Wars=guild vs guild is what I heard

and the rest are consent pvp which is hideous to me. image

I started to play UO the other day again:)

Just ignored my old characters (GM fisher/chef/mage, GM lumber/sword/anatomy/healing/tactics, GM mage/music/provoke/meditation/eval int/ 90ish taming)

And started a new character, without giving him any money or anything, I'm collecting cotton and hide to raise tailoring, going to make a crafter never really had that before:)

I'm playing the 2d client ofcourse and the game rocks:)

My account is 70 months old:)

All old UO players can get a 15 days free trial if they renew their account, so go and find your cds and install:)

I've put down UO...this time I think for good.  Sounds insane but I broke out my old Diablo II disc and have been playing that for awhile now...completely crappy compared to UO but addictive none the less.  That is also why I came here.  Friend of mine told me about Lineage II beta test so he gave me this link.  Since then I've been testing that as well as a few others.  No, the games don't compare to the enjoyment I got out of UO but it's something new.  On top of that it's free.  I'm hoping by doing this I'll run across a game that I enjoy as much and by beta testing it I'll be on the ground floor.  Able to make a change in the game by giving my input and finding bugs to make it that much more enjoyable....the search however continues as I'm sure it will for quite awhile.

i agree with u all.....since i have quit UO (due to aos and other things),i have set out looking for another mmorpg to match uo or come close. truthfully NOTHING out there comes close to the content of uo =/ i have played FFxi,AO,AC (1 & 2),DAoC,PS,L2,EQ,SB,SWG and horizons....let's just say i have played ALOT of mmorpg's...they all had the ups and downs...why o why can't they make a great game like UO once was image if osi could figure it out!! (and listen to the ppl) everyone left due to graphics(the biggy) and the idea that ppl should have a safe little place to hide (tram & malas) and other resons... if only the could figure out a way to have both great graphics and content at the same time imagewith all the great things uo has like houses, riding boats, factions, non consentual pvp!!!! and the other great things from uo. i was praying that UXO would do this but as aways the new $#*! OSI comes up with sucks!! untill the day comes when they make a game close to what UO was (but up to date) i will keep praying and playing other games. so anyways u will find nothing bud sorry image

edit: oh yeah if u want to play UO pre UOR there r free servers u can play on (i can't paste a link or i will get in trouble) image

    Blah blah blah......

i don't understand why doing a graphics overhaul to a system that works is such a problem.... probably because i'm not a programmer :)

but really... would it be so tough to upgrade a game like UO to a full on pretty lookin 3d system?? (or even something way way old school [non-mmo] like wing commander privateer, or the original final fantasy? i'd love to play those again with some perty graphix :D) most of the oldest games ruled because the ability to overfocus on graphics just wasn't allowed. it's like the difference between indie film and hollywood. the indie films always have to make the best possible product with what they've got, whereas hollywood makes the best looking product that lacks the most. indie usually doesn't look amazing, but it's got the content.

so i dunno... it can't be that tough to just go in and overwrite all the graphics features with newer stuff. gameplay might be slightly altered by adding things that are way up in the air, but that could only be a good thing. nothing about content needs to be changed. it's all cosmetic. i say re-release the original UO with a graphic overhaul and do away with all the excessively pretty contentless crap games that keep appearing.

and i wasn't even a big fan of UO. but i concede that it far outshines every mmog since.

I quit UO a few years back and can honestly say it is the only mmorpg I truly miss playing. Since reading on the UO website that I could come back for a free 15 day trial I have been excited but I keep telling myself no because I know I will become addicted again. At any rate I am about to begin the search for my install cd's

www.gigex.com have a 15 days free trial for everyone, so if you can't find your cds you can always download the client from there and use your old account I guess:)

This game is so tough to quit playing it must have a physical addiction attached to it...has anyone ever checked to see if the retail box is coated with a foreign substance?

    I'm still clean after 7months.

I played UO when it first came out and stayed with it for three years. You can't rplace your first mmog experience. I've since tried most of them(EQ,DAOC, AC, etc..) To give you an idea of my prefered style of mmog, I love UO's variety and freedom. I cannot stand EQ's rigidity and lack of things to do. Unfortunately, most games that have come along have followed EQ's model rather than UOs. The game that comes closest to UO for me is SWG, which I have played since it came out. Its not the greated, and has a lot of the problems all mmogs have(nerfs, content, etc) but it does provide the variety and feedom I enjoy. I can make a variety of character types, craft, pvp, decorate houses, hunt big game. By the way, the creative director was Raph Koster(Designer Dagon) who was teh lead designer of UO.

    Same here.

I've done nothing but searching for another mmorpg game that could replace uo, and that havent happended yet.. they all suck.

Well, the one thing that kept me playing uo was the skill system, use-to-raise that is excellent!
Only one game that I know of gonna have that system and thats WISH so hopefully it'l be fun.

Thou there are other games that I'm going to buy/beta on release and thats:

World of warcraft and everquest 2.

I've decided that I don't like usage based systems because most skills are useless unless they are maxxed. There is no half way point(generally speaking, there are exceptions). You either grind til you get the max skill number or you skip the skill entirely. I prefer the branching skill tree system where you either have a skill or you don't.  Then that skill can be enhanced through various means outside of the system itself(buffs, special items, etc).

Considering WoW copied UO crafting and DAoC adventuring and did both much much better I would say World of Warcraft will be the game to replace UO. Also, Blizzard actually gives a $h!t about their players.

i have to say, im another one on the bandwagon of people waiting and searching for a UO replacement. Played DAoC, SWG, L2, FFXI, Shadowbane, etc). Nothing matched up with what UO used to be. I enjoyed it from December '99 and beared with it up until AoS, then a couple weeks AoS was released i had to quit. Tried my 15 day trial recently, but they went too far with item insurance and all that other crap. Yeah its true a lot of these newer games are still fun to play, they all have good and bad features, but If anyone finds an MMORPG that can muster up what UO could(or even come close to it!) make sure you tell everyone!

UPDATE (4:56 AM): Darkfall looks really good. image

i still have my account active, dont play much at all anymore though. every now and then ill login and do whatever, but usually dont stay on that long, it just isnt what it used to be and out of all the good 100+ people i played with i think there is only like 10 or less left, and they are hardly ever on either

Sad to say there is tons and tons of everquesr copies but none of Ultima online, i still haven't found a game like it..in a way it ruin alot of the mmorpg.. right now im sticking with city of heros even if it does lack content.
