Whatever happened to Wyvern at cabochon.com?

It's gone. I was going through some old bookmarks and the site doesn't work anymore. This was a fun little graphical MUD.

Anyone know what happened?

Oh man, really? I loved Wyvern but I I forgot the account name one time and couldn't remember the website name.

Man, this is some bad news on my part, I really hope it's not gone. Maybe they forgot to pay for the website?

    I'm dissapointed now

As far as I can tell, it's been gone for over a month. I used to be quite the dedicated player, and it was, in my opinion, one of the greatest free MMORPGs on the net.

I took a break for a bit before trying to log into the client in late November or early-mid December, and it kept telling me it couldn't connect. The website has been down, too. At this point, I don't know what's going on. I have been able to find NOTHING out about what happened, what's happening, and if it's coming back.

I played Wyvern for years! Uck.. It's so depressing when a game like that simply vanishes.

It's still gone :) Anyone have any info whatsoever on this?

I'm not saying I think it was a fantastic game (it was a helluva lot of fun but the rules and the terrible admins ruined it for me), but it's one of those addictive yet simple games.

If you want to know the problem I had with the admins, I was the storm giant who got banned for accidentally summoning a shoggoth in the church from a scroll, then logging off. I found out the thing went instantly hostile and killed any new player that spawned at or entered the church. After I explained how it was an accident and due to lag (I used the scroll in one of those random dungeons as a desperate last resort after descending the stairs and finding myself surrounded by some tough monsters, but due to lag it didn't take effect until after I was dead and in the church), I was told by Arilou that I was a liar and that it was definitely done on purpose and that he didn't believe my "story" one bit. I would never do something like that on purpose, I'm not a griefer.

Even though I played after this incident with another character, it always haunted me. It's the first and only time I've ever been banned in an online game, and the first time I was ever accused of being a liar when explaining a game occurance.

I wanted to play this game again :( Bad admins or no. Untrusting admins or no. Power hungry admins or no. The game was fun and I actually had some ideas for some new areas to create, like I created for my old text MUD.

I first noticed it gone in November I believe. I visited it twice a week and never saw a notice about it going poof. I emailed him asking the status when it did not come back up, but got no reply.

Arilou could be a bastard sometimes, but overall, despite the disputes I've had on there, I still really want the game to come back online. I can't believe it's gone. I'm still in a state of shock.

I've been trying to find another MMORPG that is similar to it, but that's not going to happen. There's nothing like it out there, or at least not close enough to it, and Wyvern was exactly what I was looking for in a game.

I really hope it comes back online.

There is hope! It appears the creator may have taken it down for some reason or another, and plans on getting it back online as soon as he's finished. At least, this is the information I happened to come across. I do believe it has something to do with the coding.

It is strange that it's been down so long, but at least there's an idea of why.

My advice: Just wait it out, it appears Wyvern WILL be back... Eventually.

    I certainly hope it will..

They've been overhauling everything. They make updates on their forums www.wyverneers.biz The latest word came from Arilou last week...

"I finally located a new ISP yesterday. I've been -very- reticent to put the game

back online until I had a trustworthy one, since my old/current ISP has been getting

gradually flakier (and has consistently overcharged me by 50% or more each month).

This new guy is in the same data center in downtown Seattle, but he also happens to

live across the street. I checked him out thoroughly and he's solid, so I'll be moving

the game server back downtown this week.

It'll probably take a few days of testing before I'm confident that my firewall is

reasonably secure. And I need a few days to run through basic tests of the game

server, since I made a bunch of really fundamental changes to the database in order

    to support future web-based clients.

My guess is that I should have things back up by the end of the month, and all will

be back to normal. Well, hopefully. There -will- be bugs and stuff, but I'll try to fix

    'em as people report them.

None of the game data has changed in any way - the player data, maps, areas, etc.

are all unchanged from when the server went down, so the game should be able to

    continue normally."
