DAoC 1.87! Should YOU come back? My experince this month.

I came back to DAoC to play on Classic server after being away more then a year or so. I found out it was easy  and fast to template out my character, make money, and get to Champion Level 10 when I only had acouple hundred gold and a level 50.

They buff many classes that werent freindly to group with so I had a great time soloing. The only problem was that it was filled with annoyances and missing Seige action.

After every death I would have to spend time waiting for res sickness so i could buff my self with potions that must be bought at the market every so often. Some of these potions like end regen and power regen would run out many times or right before you engage a fight. So many fights were lost becuase of your buffs worn out during combat. You can not buff yourself easily becuase you need to equip equipment that would give bonuse to your buffs if you wish to compete soloing.

Soloing is great fun, watching and avoiding the 8man groups to stealth zerg just to get some fun 1v1 action was great. A lot of soloers respect the 1v1 so another soloer from diffrent realm would wait till your fight is over before engaging the victor. but most of the fights you won were becuase your buffs were up and theirs wasnt.

The 8v8 action can be fun and are a lot longer but even match between 8v8 are rare. Most of the groups you run into are more powerful then you are or out number you with 2 or more groups. but most 8man groups were made just to farm RPs off the small groups and soloers.

There is no seiging  during prime time most of the time but even during off hours there is no use defending it.

Most of the mechanics use for defenders are useless(Oil/balistas do little damage ) becuase the attackers would abuse the rams making a War ram first and once you got that down to 10% or so they would turn it into a battle ram with full hp. The doors would go down to fast to even try to damage down the battle ram. The defenders have nothing todo becuase the attackers woiuld usually stand agaisnt the wall out of sight. When they get to the inner gate it can get more fun for melee/nukers because of many doors you can pop out to attack the attackers and strategy you can use to kill the attackers. but usally the attackers over whelm you so your stuck inside waiting till they get to the lord room.

But its useless to attack or defend unless they are going after relics becuase the reward for your hours are nothing and rarly fun.

If your looking to come back to DAoC be prepare to go through frustrating times for very few minutes of fun and I mean few.

but DAoC did improve sence I last played because of the class balance they made and how easy it is to get back out there to RvR.

    Thats all very nice...

I didnt buy a MULTI player game to solo and watch others fight ...

The potions have been available for years.. but the quicker endo and power regeneration is nice.

Palintones are your friends. I've taken a couple friends to a keep under siege and with those a couple of trebs of your own, you can outpace the attackers siege craft. Not likely that a small force will be carrying 30 trebs/rams. If you're solo, you are correct, its a losing battle but if you have friends and know what /assist'ing is, it greatly improves your chances. 3 trebs on 1 will kill the rider no probs, and if he is getting healed? Treb the healer.  Disrupting your enemy's plans is the easiest way to turn the tide of any battle. Most fights I'm the idiot catching a hot and running into the enemy ranks.  How many times have you had a healer start screaming 'OMFG get this guy off me!!1!!'. Well that guy on him will die, but for the greater good if his friends are ready to take advantage of the situation. Same goes for sieging. Not sure it works on levels of towers or keeps, but I have palintoned a ram from on top of that tower. Add in some oil and someone to disrupt the healing and just a few people can defend against a much greater force.

Every time that I'm tempted to return to DAoC ( I played for better than three years on Guin and then Perc, boy do I miss it sometimes... ) , I just look at the population numbers and change my mind.
Sorry, DAoC's population loss can't be overcome unless they consolidate the servers - the "grouping" of servers just wasn't enough from what I saw.

They just need to do some advertising.  I have been watching for three years, and not once have I seen a commercial or magazine with a DAoC advertisment.  The biggest thing with DAoC was the Jeporady question, and who watches Jeporady all the time?  If they would get some commercials and things like that out like WoW, they would probably get a much larger population.

Game is still very boring at the PvE level. Casters are still a pita to level up, and melee suck at RvR. RvR is meaningless now. Its just a bunch of vn board addicts that play all evening long. No point to the game anymore.

Actually... I still have a lot of fun with it.  I read VN, but I'm not a member lol.  Casters aren't that bad to level, I have a runecarving runemaster that I started a few days ago, got him to level fifteen in about three hours.  Just go to the Burial Grounds and aoe whole camps down at a time.  And there never really was a point except to have fun, and if you are good at your class, you can get a group, or solo fairly easy.

I know how you feel! Guinevere was awesome for a couple of years. It started to loose its luster right before ToA came out for me, then and I left. Then Granarc Died shortly after I left, and Docoloth left. Leaving a huge hole in some of the original top ranking Hibernians. I heard it is just not the same...Daoc will always have a special place though on my top MMORPG list. Some great times in that game.

Who was your character by the way? I was Csma Hexors..Firbolg Hero of Hibernia. I was GM of X way back in the day and a officer in Dorlach Sgath when Kurator, Tombo, Gazz were all around and playing.
