Does Not Having Items Or Weapons Take Away From The Game Majorly?

I was wondering if you thought not having items or weapons takes majorly away from the game..  I am considering buying it and wandering what you think!image

You do get weapons.  My warrior had an axe and my blaster had a rifle.  Theres other weapons also, as far as loot , no there is no loot other than power enhancements.

Not to me it doesn't. Personall, I enjoy not having to worry about Loot. That one aspect of a game tends to have a profound effect on gameplay. Yea, I could get XP here, but THERE has better loot. Which means, of course, EVERYONE want to fight there.  This leads to heavy camping, selective adventuring spots, ect. Without loot in the game, there are no more pauses from adventuring to "run back to town" to sell or upgrade equipment.  No worrying about Bank/Vault space. Nothing but action.

The graphics are downright awesome with a "Comic Book" feel. Don't let that last push you away either... when you get to Atlas Park, a starting area, walk into the huge building and take a good look at the floor. Where else do you see reflections that nice? The sounds in the game are great too... the "Superhero" music is awesome. More ambient sounds might be nice, but hell, I usually run MP3s while I'm playing anyhow.

Lastly, Character Creation. I've yet to hear anyone complain about this. There isn't a game out that offers the kind of fun you get with COH's Character Creation. I've filled all 8 of my character slots, and keep deleting toons so I can make more.  By far the most fun I've had creating characters... EVER.

To me no items does mean one thing, they're going to have to work a lot harder.  Items are the easy answer to end game content and the easy answer to status symbols.  Once you get to a certain lvl theres pretty much nothing to do but keep going, speaking from beta experience.  I was 35 and the exp slowed to a crawl and I got pretty much every power I could get.  So what was I to look forward to doing?  I don't know except for making another character.  For players that like to keep 1 character and make them as strong as possible...the lack of items leaves little for you to do at high lvls and especially at the end.

Don't get me wrong, I think its still the best game out there...its just that it needs some work on the end game content...since it is pretty easy to max your character in enhancements and powers(that you want).

I think by weapons he means, weapons you get to buy/find and actualy equip.

The weapons you do get are more of a visual thing, since they don't directly effect anything.

My overal thoughts on the matter however, no I don't think not having items hurts the games. Allows you to focus more on how you enhance your powers and defines your character by your abilities entirely, and not how good your gear is.

However the gameplay is awfuly bland. The combat and fighting is the best I've EVER seen in an mmorpg, the character creation is amazing and un-matched, the environments and random NPC's make it seem "alive", yet there's no depth. All you ever do is run out and fight, fight, fight. It'd be like playing the same stage on Double Dragon 3 over and over and over again... For an mmorpg I want a bit more diversity than that. Game had me marjorly hooked early on, but once I had a lvl 20 and a few 10's I realized nothing was changing, even at higher levels, the mobs just looked different, and once I reached cap level, I'd have nothing to look forward to than battles with more different looking mobs. Great game, just needs a little more diversity in what you can do while online.

You do get items they just aren't in the same form. You get a kind of ability token that you can mix and match with your skills. From the limited trial I saw, it works fairly well and brings someting thats actually inovative to a boring ol' MMO market right now.

I think it is better with no items.  In most games you have to spend alot of time to save money to buy wepons or armor just to have to do it all again in a few lvl's.  The only thing you have to do is power up your powers and if you buy the powerups you mostlikly acumulated(sp) enough money(influence) to buy it without running around looking for kills.

i love it like it is.  The no new items is fine with me because you get "new items" every even level when u level up.  Items as in new powers and such

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

The one main advantage I see is that twinking will be very hard to accomplish.  People will actually have to play the game.
